Returning to Vinland Saga after the sex that was Berserk.
It's not as awesome

But still pretty cool
Gotta love Vikings.

See?
We told you! xD
Chewin that first line gave me a good chuckle, so thanks
Now! What do you think of Emiya's 'final choice?' To me, it was one of the series' highlights.
Agreed on the Emiya plot twist. I loved the whole idea behind the Holy Grail being limited by its obtainer.
You certainly are good at analysing stuff, Chewin. The part about how well Zero serves as a prequel made me like Fate Stay Night even more. Hopefully UBW manages to portray this even in a more proper fashion, which I believe it will since it is ufotable after all and their works have been rather solid as of late.
@CrazyRah Sounds good to me. Will add it to the list after I have finished Haruhi.
I think that's what surprised me about all this. Granted, I think Zero is a far superior show to Stay Night, which I watched afterward, but I did appreciate how the creators actually seemed to enjoy Stay/Night to the point where they were trying to create a series that would manage to fit together.
Zero seems to expand on Stay/Night without making fun of it and watching the two back to back, from a narrative perspective, you might almost think that Zero came first.
Vinland Saga and Berserk are pretty good but Vagabond's my personal favorite.

Can't argue with Trope there.
Vagabond is f*cking amazing ![]()
I just love fantasy. If my favourite books are from Tolkein and G.R.R Martin's ASOIAF, you know why I'd love Berserk.

As far as I'm concerned Berserk is the ultimate fantasy story.
Esdeath is god-tier character design, I'm not sure about the rest of the anime though TBH.

I won't argue with you.
I'm having trouble deciding where in my top 5 it'll go in.
I would have put FMAB in there if its world was a lot more fleshed out. You know what's funny about her? Arakawa that is. She's never read 'the classics.' Meaning Lord of the Rings xD
Which is why I loved FMAB's setting so much and why I want it to be expanded.
But even then, Berserk takes the cake by a loooong run.
Why I spoke about FMAB? I have no idea xD I'm pretty spontaneous ![]()
I think the Japanese kind of effortlessly create stuff every other year that makes Lord of the Rings and pantheon level stuff in western fiction look trifling, but I'm racist that way.

Nawww man.
You did not just diss Tolkien.
That's sacrilege in 56 different countries.

Watched a couple of the extended Psycho-Pass episodes (which is the first four episodes of the original, I understand), pretty good so far except these potential overarching antagonists don't leave a very good first impression. Not gonna impress me just namedropping random dystopian works like Nineteen Eighty Four and Johnny ****** Mnemonic, though I could see how those references (1984 at least) could come into play later regarding their motivations hopefully. Cuz the first insight we get into their motivations doesn't paint a very believable villain.
Or who knows, maybe these people will be through in episode five. ![]()
Though I would say the first case in episode one, and the additional world building in episode two, and the kinda bureaucratic butting heads stuff in episode three, and how these investigations have developed in general, have all been pretty good. So that I'm not just always talking about the things I don't like about shows I say are "good."
Nawww man.

Well ok, but I sense that there is just so much random JRPG/anime stuff that has, emotionally at least, been at the level of many of these celebrated greats in western literature, or the comic canon also.
Not so much interested in dissing Tolkein as elevating the stature of Japanese stuff.
Of course there's always stuff like Rosario Vampire which uh... well... you know, hey, it was all right, in parts, and pieces, sorta.

I thought you didn't even like anime much. At least you were complaining about how we all should play more JRPGs instead.
Well it's not inconsistent, the top 10 anime of all time that people put up there, Geass, Brotherhood, Berserk, etc, I would say are very strong things. I'd say they are roughly equal to some of the classics like LOTR etc.
I prefer JRPGs frequently over all of that but hey, if anime is getting more recognition that's nice also. At a mininum, I think it's nice that people are willing to come out and go, yeah, this character is awesome even though they seem kinda crazy and different, or even if it's not the thing people normally watch.
I mean I played dozens of JRPGs before I ever saw my first anime, but I've been Anime Expo 2x now and even though I don't have one ounce the fandom of people there, I think it's cool to see the dramatic increase in people there as well as the general excitement. And then maybe one day like Lufia or some obscure thing might be discussed in the same way.
Geass is also just flat out better than some JRPGs I've played, period.
Guest_simfamUP_*
When I say Tolkein I'm talking all of it.
From the Music of the Ainur right down to Gimli leaving Middle Earth with Legolas to Valinor.
There is so much depth and history to that lore that the man died without completing it xD
Geass is cool.
But not great. And no where near LOTR.
I love Geass though. You should check LotGH. Makes Geass some Sat-morning Cartoon show.
You seriously underestimate the value of LOTR in the literary world and what Tolkien's world has done to inspire so many authors of fiction.
In the end, it's very rare for any medium to stand side by side with literature.

Loving my GitS re-watch.
God I missed Batou xD

I heard Silmarillion or whatever it is was better than LOTR... sounded interesting.
Guest_simfamUP_*
Depends.
Silmarillion is written sort of like a history book.
There's also the Histories of Middle Earth, the Unfinished Tales, the Book of Lost Tales (which are basically drafts of the origins) and the Children of Hurin (which is like Tolkein met Berserk.)

You know you've gained a few points when you finally grasp episodes 5 and 6. First time I watched them so many things were going on I was left with a huuuge mind f*ck xD
So I just had to watch one line in the sub that I couldn't hear well in the dub to piece something together.

Warning. I haven't watched it yet but apparently endless 8 is one of the most notoriously awful arcs in anime.
Endless 8? Hah that's nothing dude. I've watched Bleach. Endless eight is an oasis of storytelling compared to that desert barren of meaningful plot.
I agree in a sense. I don't think most people will agree but I certainly took some value from watching the entire arc after watching the movie.
Well listen to then over me since they've actually watched the thing while i've only heard of endless 8 via word of mouth.
