Fate/Stay Night

It goes without saying that the show is off with a very solid start. The 45 minute prologue managed to give the show enough exposition without resulting to having everything compressed into it--giving a general idea of the setting, its characters, lore, etc. while simultaneously leaving things to be explored further. Having the episode focusing primarily on Rin is a fresh approach to the show for those who have experienced the 2006 version of F/SN, and seeing her different behavior to different characters and situations throughout the episode--as well has portraying her in a new light--made her a more well rounded character in a single episode than how she was portrayed throughout the whole season in the previous adaptation, I would argue. Same could be said about the relationship between Rin and Archer, since I got a much better perception on their standing with each other and even with the scenes similar from 2006 version left me with a stronger impression. Having both of these characters get a stronger focus is welcoming since I found that both of their roles were rather unfulfilled in the previous adaptation, and hopefully other characters won't be over shadowed. 

 

The animation--as to be expected--was solid and is certainly in par with Fate/Zero. The fight scene was flashy and visually stunning, but a tad bit fast paced in my opinion to truly appreciate the choreography behind it. From the combat and the trailers I've seen, I get the feeling that the fight scenes will generally be more violent compared to Fate/Zero. Nothing against that approach, but I do hope ufotable doesn't go for the route that seems to be the norm with anime/manga, which is how the need to top previously done fight scenes is to make them bigger and more explosive, throwing away logic behind them in favor of making them more flashier.

The soundtrack was amazing and truly fit the setting whenever it was needed. 

 

All in all it was a very comprehensive episode and I am stocked for the next one!

Good points, however, I can't say anything about the women since I've yet to read One Piece other than look at the pretty panels.
 
But It's still tons better than Bleach though.

And it isn't until recently that I noticed this. I wanted to find out why the first season of Hajime no Ippo looks better than the 2nd and 3rd even though tech has improved, and why exactly does Is Reiroukan Still Alive? look so good. Then I checked and compared "the big three" on impulse

First season of Chihayafuru completed and it really was something far better than I anticipated or what a short piece of text about the show could possibly tell. Just reading what the show was about didn't sound at all that interesting but that quickly became void once I actually watched the show. Chihayafuru deal with so many things and with Karuta as the game it really does stand out. A card game about poems hardly is the first thing that would make me excited watching a competition but thanks to actually taking the time fleshing it out and through different characters tell why they love Karuta make it feel quite alive and far more fascinating than it could be on its own. One character love Karuta because she absolutely love poems and their history while another love Karuta because it's something that she's really good at. What really make me like Karuta is that it's been a very excellent tool in dealing with character development and how to improve at a sport or game. Seeing them encounter issues and reasonable doubts about their play and through perseverence and genuine hard work learn to deal with the issues and then improve!

 

Chihayafuru got in Chihaya Ayase one really good protagonist who is very likeable. If you're not a fan of air-heads she will naturally annoy you since it's one of her many traits but it completely vanish once she play Karuta. The characters that feature often in the show all have gotten sufficient development and air time to not at the moment feel wasted. Some have gotten further than others but given that so much are left to watch I'm not bothered by the ones that need a bit more time. If anything it fit how the competetive world is, some just manage to develop much faster than others. I can't say that I've encountered a character yet that I dislike or hate which I find suprising since there most of the time do exist a few of them. Does that mean all are likable or well created? Not at all! There certainly are characters that are very much going to make a viewer genuinly dislike them and some probably even deserve it. Chihayafuru has had a most excellent track so far how improving the characters and I look forward to seeing if that continue in the future with me jumping into the next season later today.

 

The art style of the show I genuinly do like, the show prefer to use a lot of warmth and colours that express a lot of it but it doesn't shy away from using colours and other styles to give contrast at the appropriate moments like when things just are going so awfully wrong compared to what the characters had hopes for. The soundtrack really follow the same style and for the most part also give of a lot of warmth since the show in general is very happy and really want to push forward. It's not the best soundtrack and wouldn't stand a chance against the ones of PMMM and Fate/Zero but it doesn't do a bad job and do fit with what is happening on the screen at all times. 

 

 

Chihayafuru has probably been the hardest anime to actually write a post about because even after watching one season of it I'm uncertain exactly just how they managed to make it so insanely interesting. As mentioned above.. in a piece of text it's doesn't sound that awesome at all

And it was epic! Solid pacing, great interaction with the world and characters, it gave Rin much focus (better than what 2006 did since I basically have a better understanding of her character after this episode, was genuinely surprised by it) as well as Archer (come to think of it, I never stopped to think who he was in during his time and neither was it ever tackled on. Him having amnesia due to Rin's summoning makes sense and will love to see how it is explored). And don't get me started on the action scenes! God I was pumped, and I shouted "F*ck yeah!!" more than once. Archer / Lancer I can rank in my Top 5 Battles easily, and I never thought the very first fight would be that good.

 

So yeah, I loved it and hope it will deliver as it goes along.

Aye, what ufotable did with a single episode improved quite a lot of aspects than what Deen did, and I love it!

As expected the prologue was of the high quality that I've come to expect from ufotable. While so much could be said it's best to get the quick mentions over first. Art and animation are as always the best quality and it was great to hear the use of a few soundtracks that i recognize from before and with the addition of a rather excellent ending track aswell. The combat look just as impressive as it did in Fate/Zero and I'm looking forward to seeing more of it and against other heroes just to get a better idea of it.

I did grow to like Rin to an extent in Fate/Zero and despite her small role there really looked forward to seeing her in the center of the picture and it's just as awesome to see her as I'd hoped it would be and I already do like the relationship that exist between her and her Archer servant. She really do feel like a true Tohsaka with her strong confidence and that she got the same pride her father had. Looking forward to seeing her interact with more characters since the ones that happened in the prologue alone really just made me like her more and more.

Aye, Rin is certainly turning into a very promising protagonist. The very first scene with Rin's parting with her father establishes quite nicely the weight she carries as the sole child of the Tohsaka family and what role she is to play in the upcoming events. Considering the family legacy and what the Holy Grail War entails, it is important to give her characters a lot of causes and aspects to explore. She is a child after all and I am glad that it is taken into consideration--she sports a very confident and rational persona in front of people but as can be seen in the episode she is also rather insecure and is desperate to prove her role as an individual and magician, which is showcased with her interaction with Archer. 

 

The prologue does lay the ground work quite nicely, and I as well am looking forward to how everything will turn out.

Fate/Stay Night: UBW

I went in with high expectations, and I wasn't disappointed. Having an (somewhat) hour long episode focusing solely on Rin and her POV was a great method to serve as a prologue. It established the narrative, the setting, some of the important characters, world building quite nicely, with an easy way for new comers and older ones to be satisfied. Especially people who have seen the Deen adaptation of F/SN it was certainly fresh. The animation was superb, which is to be expected from ufotable (they can deliver) and the artistic lines they used were great (especially liked how Emiya Shiro's face wasn't show at all). The exposition of Rin / Archer was great, and made me love them even more. The character exploration on their both was interesting and made me see them in a new light. I never knew Rin was initially trying to summon the Saber class, nor that Archer lacked amnesia due to Rin's imperfect summoning (though IIRC it was perfect in the 2006 version, but I prefer it this way). 

 

Looking forward to next episode with great longing. And you all know why.
