Grisaia no Kajitsu is actually looking pretty good. VN adaptation are usually terrible, but they're doing a decent job of presenting it in a way that captures the feel of a VN. They story and characters are also interesting. Looking forward to watching it. Even if one of the girls is a shameless Senjougahara expy. Michuru best girl.

Well, I loved the first episode of the Fate/Stay Night remake. My one concern is that reading the plot summary of the Unlimited Blade Works route, I worry that this won't actually feel like an effective sequel to Fate/Zero, given where the story's focus lies.

I f*cking loved Ghost in the Shell this time round. Not that I didn't the first, but it was a completely refreshing experience.

Now for 2nd GIG.

However, I think SAC could have used 2/3 Stand Alone episodes less. For a moment it dragged until those final complex episodes that just blow the ball out of the park.

That's nothing.

Gurren Laganns Blu-Ray set is $600 at minimum, and I've seen it go for $800 alot!

I think it was well written or something. At least at first. I dunno i've never read the thing. Isi you've read it right? or was it Rah?

Writing was ok at first. Very good at setting a dark and serious tone well still remaining light hearted. Many of the twists and reveals were decent to begin with too plus it had a large cast of a lot of memorable characters each with individual fighting techniques.

Basically it ultimately fails from a lack of meaningful direction, recycling the same twists and changing tiny aspects but essentially keeping the effect the same and having too much filler. Also the pacing is pretty terrible. In the manga everytime a new character shows up or an old character reappears after a few chapters they get reintroductions that can last anywhere between 1 whole page to an entire chapter. It's especially annoying when multiple new characters show up and they each get their own vanity panels.

**** Bleach. If you're going to use full page panels don't use it for every freaking meaningless thing that feels cool at the time.

First season of Chihayafuru completed and it really was something far better than I anticipated or what a short piece of text about the show could possibly tell. Just reading what the show was about didn't sound at all that interesting but that quickly became void once I actually watched the show. Chihayafuru deal with so many things and with Karuta as the game it really does stand out. A card game about poems hardly is the first thing that would make me excited watching a competition but thanks to actually taking the time fleshing it out and through different characters tell why they love Karuta make it feel quite alive and far more fascinating than it could be on its own. One character love Karuta because she absolutely love poems and their history while another love Karuta because it's something that she's really good at. What really make me like Karuta is that it's been a very excellent tool in dealing with character development and how to improve at a sport or game. Seeing them encounter issues and reasonable doubts about their play and through perseverence and genuine hard work learn to deal with the issues and then improve!

Chihayafuru got in Chihaya Ayase one really good protagonist who is very likeable. If you're not a fan of air-heads she will naturally annoy you since it's one of her many traits but it completely vanish once she play Karuta. The characters that feature often in the show all have gotten sufficient development and air time to not at the moment feel wasted. Some have gotten further than others but given that so much are left to watch I'm not bothered by the ones that need a bit more time. If anything it fit how the competetive world is, some just manage to develop much faster than others. I can't say that I've encountered a character yet that I dislike or hate which I find suprising since there most of the time do exist a few of them. Does that mean all are likable or well created? Not at all! There certainly are characters that are very much going to make a viewer genuinly dislike them and some probably even deserve it. Chihayafuru has had a most excellent track so far how improving the characters and I look forward to seeing if that continue in the future with me jumping into the next season later today.

The art style of the show I genuinly do like, the show prefer to use a lot of warmth and colours that express a lot of it but it doesn't shy away from using colours and other styles to give contrast at the appropriate moments like when things just are going so awfully wrong compared to what the characters had hopes for. The soundtrack really follow the same style and for the most part also give of a lot of warmth since the show in general is very happy and really want to push forward. It's not the best soundtrack and wouldn't stand a chance against the ones of PMMM and Fate/Zero but it doesn't do a bad job and do fit with what is happening on the screen at all times.

Chihayafuru has probably been the hardest anime to actually write a post about because even after watching one season of it I'm uncertain exactly just how they managed to make it so insanely interesting. As mentioned above.. in a piece of text it's doesn't sound that awesome at all

You made a really good point that I just want to echo because I do actually get annoyed with Chihaya being an airhead at times, and that was how the Karuta itself is where we really see a lot of Chihaya's character growth, and is why despite her not being a character I'd normally like much I did grow to like her and root for her quite a bit. Tbh the only parts that kind of annoy me is when she seems to forget about everyone else the moment Arata is mentioned buuuut even she grows up a bit from that too.

Character development is what this anime does so perfectly. It's like what you said about characters not developing at the same rate, but I like how even a character that appears to develop slower in one sense is still always being developed and you never know where they are going to end up. It's nice that characters don't just develop faster because they're main characters or because they have more memorable character designs. Even the fat and boring characters can not only be good, but developed in a way that actually makes you care about them just as much. Karuta excels as a tool in the story to show how any characteristic can become situational and can excel under the right circumstances, which I very much like.

I hope you enjoy season 2 as much as I did Rah. In terms of keeping up with the quality of character development it does wonderful, and I dare say the matches manage to become even more engaging and intense. Another thing is you're going to realize that you learn more and more about the sport itself and even you might start to feel more experienced then some of the newcomers. Your knowledge of the sport only increases as the show goes on which ties in beautifully of the theme of anyone being able to play. You begin to smile at the small common mistakes many of the newcomers fall into because you have developed alongside many of the characters who too made those same mistakes, you see how new comers always can bring something new to the table and how personal their play style and motivation can be.

Anyways I'll shush up now but I'm glad you enjoyed the show. It is in my top 5 animes list so I obviously hold it in high regards myself :P

I'd start posting panels if I didn't already know I'd never be able to stop. This thread would turn into my PMMM gushing grounds.

Well it's not really a F/Z sequel, but I get the concern. But if you look at it as it's own separate story, it might be less of a noticable thing. But they're doing the Heaven's Feel route as a movie next year, so who knows, they might eventually do the Saber focused route later on.

Fair enough. I do really like what I've seen so far, especially the animation.

It's just that given the set up for Fate/Zero, which kinda hints at Rin/Sakura/Shirou/Kirei all being important, I think it's unfortunate that each of the Stay Night paths (just based on my reading their plot summaries) seems to neglect one of those aspects. Ufotable did such an amazing job there that I am still hoping that even though this follows Unlimited Blade Works, this story gives each of these dynamics their proper development.

Well F/Z was written by Gen Urobuchi as a separate piece. He was able to focus on a wider range of characters since he wasn't adapting any specific route. Given that the FSN anime is adapting the LN, they pretty much had to chose a specific route or suffer the curse of trying to adapt all of a VN's routes in one series, which is pretty much impossible. I'm sure they'll do something for those other characters, given that while the selected route does feature certain characters more prominently, I'd imagine the VN still had a lot for side characters given how extensive those things tend to be. They could pull a Clannad and end up doing a very nice job of balancing the characters in a VN adaptation.

And yeah, ufotable has a lot of really skilled and motivated artists and animators. They do great work. especially on their Type-Moon projects.
