So yeah, 2nd GiG.
Overall (like I've said before) it's better than S1. Aside from personal preferences, such as the focus being on geopolitics and on a superficial level, having a sh*t ton more explosions, the season this time is far more consistent with its plot.
There are FOUR "Stand Alone" type episodes, whilst all others are connected to the main plot some way or another. There is also some serious development for Motoko, Batou and the Tachkomas who get a very fitting climax.
Once again the theme of exploitive capitalism is present, but this time, it deals with oppressiveness of the state. So if you're a fan of Marxism you'll like its take on that. Though just a note, when I say Marxism, I mean its more modern evolution rather than the fundamental works of Karl.
Then we have the two very compelling antagonists who are each-other's antagonist. Going with the theme of duality, it's funny how they both work. One is a very simple man who makes himself to be complex whilst the other is a very complex man who makes himself to be simple. One is in complete opposition against the State and the other wishes to transform the State using the system to his advantages.
And with both, the Stand Alone Complex is a tool. Unlike the LM who triggers the phenomena with his actions, this time, the Stand Alone Complex is utilised for different means which ultimately lead to similar goals: a transformation of the State. Or as the 'Marxist' calls it, the "Superstructure."
Note: the essay (well, really it's a f*cking book xD) which analyses the politics and philosophy of 2nd GiG is VERY anti-Kuze, however, she has a good grasp of the character, but she adds her personal bias to the picture too. It annoys me a little since her conclusion is supported by something very ambiguous which could have multiple dimensions.
The climax to the series action-packed and emotional too with the ending leaving you in a little cliffhanger which is (sort of) resolved in Solid State Society (the sequel movie, btw.)
Anyway, I'd like to talk about the flaws.
Where I think it is admirable (for assuming its audience is intelligent;) it's also a nuisance. The SAC series is NOT something you watch once and will be completely satisfied or will grasp everything that is happening. And not because it's so complicated that you need to be of a certain calibre, but it deliberately leaves gaps in the dialogue as well as leaving elaboration on certain topics out of the picture in order to assume a complicated face when it's all a lot simpler. The convoluted prose and the use of acronyms that don't make sense at first is all very annoying. What the f*ck is the SDA? Ooooohh.... the Self Defence Army. When I poured over that analysis I came to realise this.
Also, the fact that it doesn't give you a clear picture of the geopolitical nature of the Earth is irritating since you won't fully appreciate the complexities unless you do. The relationship between Japan and America as well as basic understanding of Japanese history during the Cold War are all requirements to comprehending the antagonist's plan. All you would take without that is that he wants to create a pro-military state. The 'why' is not explained and only alluded to as a "shangri-la way of life."
WTF IS THAT SUPPOSED TO MEAN?! (I looked it up myself. This time round, I went into SAC with the goal of digging deep inside them sugar walls.)
Anyway, yeah, 9/10. I think I'm going to make it my FOURTH in my top anime list.
Now on a more simfamSP level....
Aramaki is still a badass
Batuo is still a badass
Motoko is still a badass and a babe
Section 9 is badass
Everything is awesome
Batuo is awesome-er
Episode 25 made me tear-up.
ETA: Polished this up a little.

I'm mad Psycho-Pass has 22 episodes instead of 11. That's a lot of show to watch. I'll probably feel better about it once I get past episode 6.

I didn't want to watch episodes I've already seen in Japanese again. Figured I'd go with the dub this time.
