Hei's depression obviously stemmed from Yin's disappearance, and you didn't need the OVAs to tell you that. It wasn't jarring, it was intriguing.

Relevant... and not relevant at the same time. But pretty much how I feel about how magic should be used in fiction.
Yin's evolution was an asspull. I don't really disagree, but I don't think it ruins all the magic just because her evolution was inadequately explored. Personally that was only part of the reason season 2's ending bothered me.
Yup, it was an asspull. And that's what bothered me. Because by the end you had no idea what was going on. And it wasn't GitS wtf is happening, because with that you just need to pay attention or dig into stuff. Here it's unexplainable.
I bet there's some EU lore that covers it though.

At that point I had f*cking no idea what was happening nor did I care because the conclusion was brought about the sh*t I hated.

Just look at Fullmetal Alchemist manga/brotherhood. They had guidelines for magic and the Equivalent Exchange rule. This made the "magic" in FMA awesome but make sense.
I love when series make sure the magic has it's own guidelines so bs that is pulled near the end of DTB does not happen.

But I think I've made my feelings known about DtB and how I liked both seasons but not so much their endings on many occasions, sorry I didn't give you the full rundown before recommending it most recently.
