Haha it's cool! I'm not really doing anything but working so the only reason why I know what day it's today is thanks to Akame. Anime is keeping me in check!
Speaking of that.. considering finishing Chihayafuru season 2 tonight, will be finishing GitS season 2 tomorrow so will have to pick up two new shows to replace them. I got quite a few options to replace GitS with but to replace Chihayafuru is a much harder task
Kids on the Slope is a good replacement to fill the hole Chihayafuru leaves. Very similar type of characters and vibes, just replace the port Karuta with music and jazz. Only 12 episodes too.
Also I don't know if you've seen Welcome to the NHK yet but that still remains a personal favorite.
I like Hanano more then I probably should. Yes she's superficial but still in a very realistic and human way (her talk to Oe about the eyebrows made me laugh a bit too hard as well ) plus she's sort of fills a roll in the group which fits well within the type of story that Chihayafuru is. She's a lot like Taichi in a basic sense where she's only playing Karuta because of her feelings for someone else, which I find rather fitting. Even though the gameplay of Karuta itself is quite engaging on it's own, there's always that underlying sense of romance and poetry which the characters display rather well. Chihaya's love story involving Arata and Taichi is very much like the poems that are being read, and I think Hanano gets a better sense of those sort of things then the other characters do. I cut her a bit of slack on the Karuta playing because she obviously needs time to grow and find her own, but I think she has it in her to be a good player. All a person needs to be good at Karuta really is passion.
I think Nishida and Taichi have a good dynamic going on. They do help each other improve quite a bit despite both having their own personal issues to deal with. The one part (I'm not sure if you've gotten here yet so I'll be vague just incase) where Nishida points out that Taichi is one of the few people to actually listen to him and talk to him respectfully was one of my favorite moments in the series. Taichi makes a great leader but he sometimes becomes isolated in his own mind so it was nice to Nishida acknowledging the things he did that helped keep the team strong.
Anyways sorry again it took so long to respond. I sometimes get really caught up on the weekends.
Ergo Proxy was for me a "fine" show. Then gain, I never was a big fan of shows that dwelve too much into symbolism, hidden meanings and philospohy. Too often they are pretentious and incoherent with a lot of moralising. And even when they're not I just find them not that interesting.
Maybe because I just don't want to hunt for hidden meanings and deal with all the BS - I just want a well told story with interesting characters. Plain and simple.
I like things being more upfront too. Like LOTGH.
There.. there! Don't listen to House because everyone do know he's a scrub!
Bro...
I REALLY REALLY REALLY can't stand Rie.
B-b-but....
Kagura
Another solid action centered Akame ga Kill episode. I was quite edged on my seat while watching, considering the stakes of a death possibility. Was in more suspense than an GoT episode.
Experiencing different anime is always welcome, even if they don't hold up to my expectations.
And who are you calling a scum, fool!? Anyway, getting to it ASAP.
Yes, it is!
And yes... I am!
A fool that is.
A fool of a Took.
@Sim
I really enjoyed Ergo Proxy as well though my problems with it are similar to that of Darker than Black. Namely there endings and the execution of said endings or lack thereof. They both feel rushed with things happening that have not been explained previously, like they are trying too hard to go the symbolism and philosophy route but not really focusing on the literal sense (does any of this make sense). Though I did enjoy the Icarus imagery with Monad at the end not because I felt it was appropriate (actually I thought it came out of left field) but because it reminded me of the Deus Ex: Human Revolution's debut trailer. Aww yeah.
I loved the Angels and Demons imagery... not the book, but you know what I mean. It felt a lot (and probably was) of it was taken from the questions posed by Paradise Lost.
“Did I request thee, Maker, from my clay
To mould me man? Did I solicit thee
From darkness to promote me?”
Not that the quote has anything to do with the scene. But a lot of Ergo Proxy stems from Milton (in my opinion.) Their nature and their reason for being as well as Ergo Proxy's own rebellion against his design.
More Milton that I think is worth considering:
“Ah, why should all mankind
For one man's fault, be condemned,
If guiltless?”
“They, looking back, all the eastern side beheld
Of Paradise, so late their happy seat,
Waved over by that flaming brand, the gate
With dreadful faces thronged and fiery arms:
Some natural tears they dropped, but wiped them soon;
The world was all before them, where to choose
Their place of rest, and Providence their guide;
They, hand in hand, with wandering steps and slow,
Through Eden took their solitary way.”

She voiced Koto in Kyousougiga, so she's cool to me.
House probably just mad she doesn't fit the Rise in the P4 in his head.
I've never liked her, but her performance as Rise and how Bailey outright destroyed her in both acting and singing just made it worse (Bailey fanboy, yolo)
Chihayafuru season 2 takes everything that the first season did excellent and improved on it. The character growth that really suprised me in the first season was even stronger and more well put in the second with even more characters in the spotlight. Most characters experienced remarkable growth and only a handful got a slow groth which going by how they took slow characters in season 1 and gave them excellent growth in the second season, that it's likely the same will happen in the future. Chihaya Ayase does really the best possible job as the protagonist and her development is absolutely up among the most impressive I've seen. Taking a look at the first few episodes when she play karuta and then looking towards the end of the second season and the difference is mindblowing. The side characters are all very well thoughtout and they all have their quirks and they all do contribute in their own way which makes the group of characters that we see the most feel very human and not robotic. Not all characters will be to ones liking but I can't say that I dislike any of them even if one did try very much at the start of the second season but now it would feel so wrong with that character not around.
Chihayafuru sport a very well created soundtrack with a few that will by the time you complete the first and even more so the second season be super memorable. The art style took me a bit by suprise at the start and I needed a few episodes to get used to how a few things were drawn but I'd still say it's a very pretty anime. It's not Fate/Zero but it's well above average here.
Now you should totally watch it. Maybe you'll love it, maybe like it.. maybe not finding it to your liking. It's easily worth a consideration!
She's crap, she's the queen of me wanting to rip my ears out because she sucks. Her singing is even worse *shutters*
Awww man :-(
Well, I can't like everything you like.
For example, ME2 is one of my favourite games for REASONS (though I admit it's a pretty dumb follow up.) But I know you don't like it
Still, we both want to take Yukari in the mountains and f*ck her stupid so that's all we need to be cool
And we also want to feed Sasha potatoes.
Because we all know that she is the kawaiiest
P.S
Can't be f*cked with another challenge of an anime. I've done my SAC, my GitS, my Ergo Proxy and I've had my fair share of "why is everything sad" in Darker than Black because Jesus it does make me feel.
Maybe it's always my low expectations when heading into this (because I KNOW at some point, this story will just turn reaaaallly dumb and I can see signs of it already) but I gotta say...
I'm damn impressed.
Where I left it last time, Gaara and company arrived to save the day. Why these? I don't really know. Tsunade was clever to mend relations with the Sand Village because they were manipulated by Snake Man who killed their Kage and posed as him, but other than that, these three were the main infiltrators. Though I guess if you're going to condemn them, you might as well condemn everyone.
He fought Kira (who's like Snake Man's number one fanboy for pretty obvious reasons) which was pretty awesome. Again, I gotta admire Naruto's fight scenes. I know Geth doesn't find them all that impressive, and I think I know why. It's basically a who can punch harder thing. But I don't really care as long as it looks awesome and it does.
Gaara and Lee have a pretty tough time beating this dude who we get flashbacks of. I don't know why they're trying to develop a character who's just come in and who's dead in the next episode but whatever. He'll probably be back.
What I like about it is the similarities between Lee, Gaara and Kira. Both who have strong connections with their gaurdians, but in totally different ways. So that's cool. And Gaara points it out. But what I don't like is how this super-duper powerful f*cking dude is getting beating by Genins. I know I know... these are "SPECIAL" but man, is there even a POINT to the rank system anymore? When Kira who's like 10x Kabuta who's supposedly as strong as Kakashi is beating by two Genins... yeah.
It's dumb.
Moving on...
What really impressed me here is Sasuke and Naruto's fight. Though the first three episodes dragged in A LOT due to 20min flashback scenes. It really established Sasuke's motives for doing what he's doing. The kid has had it tough. Though they could have done more to make him less assertive and more doubtful. His logic is flawed, but so is he as a person. A boy who's lived in the shadow of his Super Duper Uber brother who tried his best to become like him only to see that his own brother committed the f*cking genocide of his entire Clan.
To me it would be the equivalent of Yang Wenli slaughtering my family in front of my eyes xD
Anyway, so yeah, despite his logic/reasoning whatever he wants to call it. There is consistency and that's what's important. Naruto was actually intelligent and told him the consequences but of course, Sasuke, so consumed by his own BS ignored him.
But then again, what was sweet was how they confirmed their relationship. Or rather, how deep their bond actually goes. It's a shame that (apparently) they boch this up later on because it really is one of the better aspects of the entire show.
Oh... and their fight after those three episodes was f*cking brilliant. Animation was top notch. Again, it was a who p*sses harder quest, but it was really cool to watch. I don't really care about how battles are managed as long as the action is cool. Which it is. I'm sure there are tons of fancy words used by directors and such to describe why, but I'll just say that the choreography (which is the most important thing for me) was done perfectly.
Naruto really does have some of the coolest fight scenes. In a different way to how... let's say, JoJo handles them, because JoJo comes up with something different each time, which is also cool. But I'm talking about raw, Michael Bay, action.
The aftermath is pretty tragic but there's development and the usual "resolve" coming from the cast. The revival of Neji and Choji was kind of an asspull... but in a good way. They didn't just dance the Macarena and boom "magic." Nah, you can see it was a close call to bring them back and Tsuande is supposed to be this OP healer so that's all cool.
Now to see how they'll handle f*cking death later on. Because I just know it'll be a pointless thing after a while.
Err... that's all to it I guess? I think I've reached the filler in which case my buddy and I are jumping to Shippuden.
So yeah. Overall Naruto wasn't so bad as I thought it was going to be. It was actually pretty good.
