Think of it like watching the Star Wars trilogies--either one will spoil it for you one way or another. Whether one spoils certain aspects more than the other is debatable. I personally watched F/SN 2006, then F/Z and now UBW, which is the order I would recommend. But if you don't want to stumble through mediocrity, then watch F/Z and then UBW.

I will echo Chewin's words that watching first Stay Night, then Zero and UBW is what I would recommend as well. Even though the 2006 is okayish, it serves as a nice introduction to the franchise, which makes experiencing Zero more satisfying since it is very very good and involves familiar faces which makes the experience that much more enjoyable. And since UBW serves as a sequel to Zero, it is enjoyable to experience it this way IMO.

Deen's Fate is really bad though. I mean the Fate route is really bad even on it's own but DEEN managed to make it even worse.

And I have to disagree with the notion that you should watch Zero before watching Fate UBW or especially Heaven's Feel.

As Chewin pointed out, watching either F/SN or Zero will spoil it for you in one aspect or another, hence why I think one should watch Deen first. I wouldn't go as far and say it is bad. It is decent to good anime, but a bad adaptation.

Watching Deen, then Zero and then moving to UBW gives a more appreciation for the story and the events and characters involved.

I would argue that Zero spoils more about Fate Stay Night then the other way around. Of course I'm not going to because that would involve spoilers and I wouldn't want to ruin the fun.

On another note, just watched Saint Seiya: Legends of Sanctuary.

The GOOD:- CGI is to-notch

- gold saints are actually doing stuff

- more gold saints survive

- better explanation for why Athena is so weak and why Gemini is so strong (he is leeching her power and killing her)

the BAD:

- the plot is rushes, rushed, rushed. You can't really cram 80+ episodes into a single short movie. No time to establish anything, the fights are ultra-short.

- They go literally from "you cannot even touch me" to "Ugh! I am defeated!" in 5 seconds. Talk about instant powerups.

- other saints do very little

- Deathmask gets a musical scene. DEATHMASK GETS A MUSICAL SCENE!

- character and armor designs are...very Final Fantay

the UGLY:

- Seiya is an even bigger Marty Stue and unsufferable ******. Almost every single facial expression, movement or sentence is hammy, overblown and overly theatrical

- Gemini does a Sepiroth and turns into some giant form BS

I finished Clannad. It's a good solid show with an adorably embarrassing romance. I came close to crying a few times but it never came to fruition now it's time for the after story which is where the true feels apparently lie.

Warning:

It's not finished.

As in ongoing or as in 'it was never done.'

SH*T

I FORGOT.

THE NEXT GINTAMA CHAPTER IS UP.

Seriously, if Gintama didn't have 100 chapters of (awesome) comedy in between its characterisation and 'main' plot, it would have made for an awesome battle manga. But still, that's where its charm comes in. This last chapter was f*cking great as always.

Now for the next chapter -.-

ugh I'm f*cking dying seriously

That's true, but that's going to be more often the case with most prequel stories. Of the two, I think that Fate/Zero in comparison to Fate/Stay Night tries to stay away from certain expectations. Ex: Fate/Zero has an ensemble cast (at least when everyone is alive), while Fate/Stay Night is clearly focused on fewer characters. To a large extent, I think that limits audience expectations, since they know certain people must be alive or dead, were they to watch Stay Night first.

FYI - there is no Free Planetes Alliance. This is almost the world AFTER the Empire conquered it. You have nobles everywhere. You do have a token loli that doesn't do absolutely nothing (other than having a total of 3 minutes of screen time during the entire season and featuring prominately on the anime cover for some reason) and a Yang-like character that is putting a spanner in the works of the pompous nobles.

While I agree with your example for the full 100% I still think that Zero tends to throw around plot twists introduced in Fate/StayNight like they are nothing while they are a lot more meaningfull in Fate/StayNight. Even the little things in Zero tend to mean a lot more in Fate/StayNight.

Also, note that there is no Rheinhard-like opposition. He doesn't have one person opposing him, he has several, but so far none has the presence of Reinhard.

Ah well.

So it's good.

But not as good.

I'm fine with that as long as it's remotely similar :D

Steins;Gate sure has been an enjoyable watch thus far. Really digging the grounded approach to the concept of time travel and how thoughtful it is in its approach, the notable references and uses of theories and conspiracies is entertaining and well handled so far, Kyouma and Makise are both capable characters and their dynamic with each other, the other characters and time travel phenomena are both fun and rather profound.

A personal quibble of mine is Feynris and Mayouri and their catch phrases. The former is a walking nyan nyan cat and the latter is a train. So annoying! It was cute at first but the constant uses of it makes me want to throw them both under a train!

As an adaption yes, but not as an anime. As I pointed out I do suggest people experience F/SN 2006 either way. But I don't know how UBW differs from Fate route, so naturally your opinion carries more weight if you say experiencing UBW before Zero is preferable. I would have thought it being a direct sequel to Zero would serve a stronger narrative structure experiencing the prequel beforehand, especially considering how certain plot elements carries over and comes into limelight in UBW.

Don't take my post too serious. I personally believe that watching Zero last is the best decision but If you're planning to watch Zero first and UBW later there is no problem.

I'm just taking my favorite VN too seriously.

1. Out of curiosity, on what episode are you on Steins;Gate?

2. Ah maybe you're right and I'm probably just overthinking this/ taking it too seriously. It has been at least a while since I read UBW and it's been ages since I saw DEEN's version but I remember DEEN's Fate route downright skipping stuff or adding things that didn't make sense.

In any case I can't wait to watch the next Fate StayNight episode. The first three episodes have been great although I wish they didn't have the moe Rin scenes.
