Vision of Escaflowne (26 episodes) - watch it or DIE.
Luie the Rune Soldier (24 I think)
Legend of Galactic Heroes - 120 episodes (or was it 140?)
Super Dimensional Fortress Macross (still the best of all macross. Period)
Excel Saga (26) - the original weirdness anime
Tytania (12 episodes I think? not a bad show)
Irresponsible Captain Taylor - good, but somewhat forgettable in the end.
Planetes - definate reccomendation. The Apollo 13 of anime... only more interesting
Monster - go. Watch. NOW.
Starship Operators - good idea, average execuation, some silly moments. Otherwise good.
..
and ...ummm...Mad Bull 37?
Haha thanks for those recommendations!
I'm not really that into sci-fi tbh, but a few of those sounded quite promising.
I'm not sure if I've the time to watch any of the larger series now, but I'll definitely check them out in the holidays.

The new Cyborg 009 movie is almost out in Japan, it looks like it could be good.
Yeah that's Keji Kamiyama's work, just based on looks it comes off feeling a bit like Ghost in the Shell.
Also I like the new designs and everything(of course I like the old designs better) but I really don't care for the way Jet looks, he doesn't even look a bit like him.[smilie]http://social.bioware.com/images/forum/emoticons/uncertain.png[/smilie]
Yeah, they seem to be adapting quite a few of the more popular animes/mangas into film format recently.
I suppose it's kind of good for people like me, since I don't think I'll be able to catch up on the hundreds of episodes they all seem to have. I've also noticed that the more modern/recent animes have started to use more realistic styles and 3D-animation (probably due to improvements in technology) which is interesting.

edit: also, I cannot stress enough how good Paranoia Agent is. It's the best from Satoshi Kon in my honest opinion, and in my top-perfect-score-three.
13 episodes.
And you can look up his other works too, they're mostly movies, for example Millenium Actress.

Anyway I do agree it's cool that they are making movies of the old greats(it's been ten years now since the last Cyborg 009 show ended). The use of more realistic styles and 3D animation nowadays is interesting(the future is now), but I think it's mostly just Kenji Kamiyama's decision(look at his work) when it comes to this movie.

Definitely Gonna Watch:
-JoJo's Bizarre Adventure (Why watch cute girls doing cute things when you can watching absurdly muscular men doing fabulous things? Not enough MANTASTIC MENERGY on TV these days so I wouldn't skip this adaptation for... The World.
-Psycho Pass (Character designs by Amano Akira, [Hitman Reborn's mangaka] but written by UROBUCHI GEN [Madoka, Fate/Zero] so basically I'll get to see Reborn lookalikes get Madoka'd. MUST WATCH.)
-Magi (It's a shonen adapation so you naturally have to be a little wary they'll do it justice, but if it's anything at all like the manga I'll be VERY pleased. Magi reminds me a lot of One Piece in the very best of ways.)
-Jormungand (HER NAME IS KOKO SHE IS LOCO I SAID OH NO! Rather enjoyed the first season, so I'm eager to see more of this psychopathic arms dealer and her highly trained squad of gun fetishist career killers in action.)
-Shin Sekai Yori (apparently, the source material was the co-winner of the Nihon SF Taisho Award in 2008. Which means that it was recognized as the best sci-fi work of all mediums, including films, manga, novels. Evangelion was a previous winner, so you can bet this one is in my crosshairs this season.)
Likely To Check Out:
-ROBOTICS;NOTES (well, it's not being done by White Fox, but I was pretty happy with the adaptation for STEINS;GATE, so I'll give this a shot.)
-BTOOOM! (Battle Royale with explosions? Hmm....)
-CODE:BREAKER (did somebody break their capslock key when selecting the titles this season? A shonen being directed by Yasuhiro Irie [FMA: Brotherhood] but the series has 19 volumes of source material so... I'm a little concerned about pacing.)
-Aoi Sekai no Chuushin de (Huge parody of the Sega / Nintendo console wars? I'll bite. I'm gonna need a slapstick comedy to watch anyway since the totally excellent Binbougami ga! is ending...)
Continuing from Last Season:
-Hunter x Hunter (YORK SHIN a Go-Go baby! Bring it on.)
-Definitely Not Sword Art Online (Dropped like a rock. Yeah sorry, reading the light novels has pretty much killed my interest in seeing the end.)

Hahaha. Yeah, it's a pretty good series all around. Didn't quite reach Black Lagoon's level of furiousness, but oh well.
