But the bottom line for me is that it's alot of fun to play. I've always liked archer/ranger types in frpg's. Warrior and Duellist were easier, but I'm having the most fun with my archer.
My suggestion for anyone who wants to do an archer is...just do it, with or without the hotfix. Either way it's a different, challenging, and rewarding game experience. Don't worry about the numbers and just have a good time.

Well, the most obvious thing is that all the crystals lose their armor/weapon properties. They don't have attack/damage/armor values anymore. That's what I noticed.
I asked about it on the boards, and someone else (a few someones, actually) pointed out that Shale's base stats also gets screwed up due to Shale's initial stats generating with equipment. So uninstalling it after you have Shale will fix the crystals, but won't fix the base armor/attack/damage values.
Now that I read this I do realize Shale's crystals are like that.
If Shale's stats are messed up from it, I wonder if the respec mod would fix them?

What do you mean? Do you not fire three times as many arrows in the same period of time (at 50 Dex)?FlatCat wrote...
Rapid shot actually "goes bad" because it only decrease aim time not draw an arrow time. Once I got a bow with rapid aim I realized there was no difference with having rapid shot on or off anymore.
I'll have to test this out with Leliana.
Generally instead of shooting 5 arrows you shoot 6. The skill and the missing manual are both deceptive to how it works it doesn't really increase attack all that much because the core animation is unaffected so it's not really increasing your attack rate in it's entirety. At the beginning where criticals are far away and meh you can just have it on because it's cheap and later it spoils like old milk when you find rapid bows and so the occasional critical is a nice boon so you can just turn it off and let it collect dust on your toolbar. A lot of people myself included were easily fooled by the speedy sound it makes when you activate it but when you actually eyeball it...it doesn't do anything that great.
@Caedrin: Unfortunately the game kind of expects that you charge in dumbly. It's the only way certain encounters work. For instance traps have no context outside of combat because you heal up automatically so they don't drain your resources. So if you pull enemies out of a room the traps are basically just free exp or delay you for a few seconds.

Edit: How is pulling not exploiting? How does it make sense that their buddies see their friend get shot with an arrow and see him run towards the people shooting at him without doing anything? You're exploiting the fact that AI is dumb as a box of rocks.
if the developers wanted them to be attached to each other then they would be. pulling is a standard tactic used in like every rpg and mmo ever made.
no wonder you complain so much, you are terrible.

thats called playing intelligently.
an idiot would just walk in and set the traps off while dealing with the enemies at the same time, but an intelligent person would pull them away from the traps and then deal with the traps after.
tactics > you.
playing stupidly doesnt give you a reason to complain, it just makes you bad.

So is kiting also not an exploit? If you have one character soap up the aggro and run in a big circle while everyone else chips away at the enemy is that a legit tactic as well? Do you draw a line anywhere? And didn't you earlier complain about people talking about balance and here you go citing MMOs. You're being hypocritical here.

It's when you click attack and your character fires a single arrow but does not start auto-attacking. Monsters don't attack you properly when you do that.
In any case, so long as you're having fun. If you don't have fun doing it, don't do it.

yes it is a legit tactic. wow, you have to be the worst player i have ever seen post.
also your point about mmo is nonsensical, im talking about tactics, not balance, but then again you are obviously not very bright, so hey, i shouldnt expect you to see the difference right? learning basic tactics doesnt equal wanting mmo balance, my god.
pulling, kiting, and all those things are just basic combat tactics. if we ever have to deal with war i just pray to god im not stuck with you in my team, i dont want to die for no reason other than people being stupid.

Well sure but I think when discussing game mechanics you should let people know how you're playing so we get the full scope of what's going on. Some people may not feel mages are overpowered if they just use them for glyphs but that doesn't tell the side of the story with Arcane Warrior/Blood Mage. So if they say "My mage wasn't overpowered" they are perhaps inadvertently painting a different picture than what they mean. It would IMO solve a lot of the dissonance problems in the forum when people say their character is doing fine because of blahblahblah. Because yeah physical classes have a lot more manageable time if they "pull" enemies in bite size chunks so they're powers are more relevant as opposed to submitting to the encounter and getting mobbed but not everyone is pulling and so their experience with physical classes like 2handers, archers, and so on changes drastically.

Well if we're in a war together you can be the guy running around in circle yelling insults at people (since you seem to enjoy it) soaping up the aggro from the Commies/Mole men/Zombie Kittens while everyone shoots the badguys.

Lol, I would love to see someone try to pull a mob in a real life combat situation...

"Pull a mob" obviously isn't a military term, but it's certainly a plausible tactic when in small group combat situations. You get the enemies' attention and try to draw them to a location where you have the advantage. What's amusing about that?Drachengelt wrote...

"Kiting" is another matter. It's something that only works with dumb AI in video games. I couldn't imagine a real life scenario where an enemy continuously chased after a target while getting focus fired upon. Would a fighter jet pursue another plane even as they're being bombarded on all sides by anti air defences?

Really? That's it? It's a 20% increase in that case, not 300%. I'm going to get Leliana's Dex to 60 and test it out for myself. Seeing is believing.FlatCat wrote...

Fix them, Flank them, Finish them. 'cause you can't predict where they move.
On a broader strategic value, this would be "lead into an ambush", which is done on a larger unit basis than small tactics. An individual opponent is unlikely to wander off - an entire squad may try to hunt (what they perceive to be) an individual or small group, only to be lead into an ambush.
