Miranda was the best option available to ManShep, it's just a damn shame of her LotSB revelation.
I really wonder what the hell they were thinking over at Bioware, putting something that should've been part of either the story or her Normandy convos in a mere wordpad file...
Doesn't look like we'll get anything better in ME3, though, what a shame.

I don't think that part was needed, any competent individual should know what you mean.Seboist wrote...

Honestly I think they really could have done so much with Jacob as far as his romance arc went (my canon romanced him). Think of it, an Alliance soldier and main hero of Mass Effect: Galaxy with THE Commander Shepard? Has the potential of a romance akin to Batman and Wonder Woman. But instead they make FemShep sound extremely desperate, Jacob sound totally uninterested, and the romance scene was just....no. And I was actually happy to have a non-white male as a romance option but was terribly disappointed once they decided to make it a scene out of a bad porn/exploitation style movie. Its sad non-white characters (Jacob, Isabela, Zevran) are always made as sexual objects in their romance arcs (Isabela the token sl*t, Zevran the latin h*rndog, Jacob the buck...geez why are characters that look like Alistair and Leliana always the virtuous types with deep romances??), but that's a discussion for another time. (Sorry had to put my personal feelings out there, and yes I still count Jacob, Zevran and Isabela as some of my favorite characters).
NONE of my characters have romanced Thane or Garrus. I honestly cannot see Garrus as a romance option. Turians are dino-raptor-avian like creatures. I think what people find attractive is his personality since they could picture an attractive human with his personality. Someone whose attracted to dino-raptors honestly to me seems more like a furry/bestiality type ordeal. Its just disgusting to me. At least Thane looks humanoid and asari (Liara, Samara) are basically blue skinned female humans with Twi'lek style head tails. But Garrus...nah...he can stick to being the bro style character for me.
As for Thane...at least a romance is believable although I've never had any of my characters romance him. He just never interested me, not even as a character outside of romance actually.
Miranda and Jack's romance arcs were a heckuva lot better (happy to have two Sheps that have Jack and Miranda has been flirted with when not romanced).
Tali...well I feel the same about her as I do Garrus even though she's probably more human like in appearance without the helmet. Just can't see the romance happening.

I hadn't been overly keen on them either. I kept loyal to Ashley. All the characters felt like all of their problems and flaws existed only for Shepard to fix and to give an excuse to delay the SM.

Okay, I play as a female Shepard, since, I am, well, a female.
and I just hate the romance options.
I'll break it down.
Garrus:
I love him, he's a good sniper, loyal, had your back from ME1-ME2.
Funny as Hell.
Only one I actually will want to be with in the third one, other than Kaidan.
Moving on...
Thane..
Ugh. "my wife's dead and I have a long lost son that kind of hates me. Oh, I'm also dying."
...How enticing. Tell me more.
Jacob:
"I ****ed Miranda."
Great...
Yeah. When I first played the game, I was a little upset about the romance options. Honestly? I blame the lack of female writers on the team. Jacob would have been fantastic if they keyed back the 'Hamburger with extra sleeze' feel. And its very hard to grow attached to a character like Thane, who pretty much announces 'I loved my wife and she is dead and I totally relive every minute of my life simultaneously forever. Oh. And I have a son who is whiny. Oh. And I'm like... TOTALLY going to die any month now. Let's make out.'
I'm just crossing my fingers hoping they don't ruin Garrus for me in ME3. I know everyone has their own ideal fantasy of how they'd like their romances to be played out, but for the love of god I really hope that he A) Doesn't give me a pet name,
Oh wait. But then I'm getting weirdly specific...
... Eh. Still wish there were some lady writers on the team. Or are there now?

"Wah, I'm perfect! I'll outlive all of you, am practically immune to disease, have a rocking body, and my daddy was rich! Life's so unfair!"
Honestly, how many people would have literally killed to have her "Problems?"
And don't get me started on her father wanting a "Dynasty." Big deal, she was given literally the best of everything, genetics, education, lifestyle, and she threw it all away because she didn't want to take her daddy's place. So what did she do? Ran away from home and joined a terrorist organization. Yeah, that's really progressive.
If she had actually thought things through, she could have waited for her father to die (Or had him assassinated.) and assumed control of his business; effectively becoming a very powerful figure. But no, a childish identity crisis and outburst ruined that chance.
*Spoilers*
Funny thing is, the organization she ran to, works closely with her father. How wonderfully ironic. TIM never mentioned that to her, did he?
*End Spoilers*
Yes, underneath her staggeringly elitist attitude lives a relatively decent personality, but there are many of those in the game. Hell, you could accuse Jack of being the same way, just replace elitist with psychotic.

Ha!
Af for the ME2 romances in general, they all felt a little rushed to me. I think that's because there were so many characters and not a very in depth relationship with any of them. Then there were the poor Sheps like mine who weren't planning on romancing anyone in ME2 and subsequently got like 3 conversations with each person. I'm so glad they're spending time on the friendship paths in ME3 as well as the romance ones (according to the devs).

Tali's was a little far fetched in my opinion but was fine
Thane's was executed well but it makes female shep seem like a foil for his dead wife.
All the others are bad in my opinon

Thane was the only good looking LI in my opinion but the fact that he already had a family turned me off big time. I don't want used merchandise if you get my drift. All the other options were meh. Im hoping Vega will deliver in ME3, he intrigues me. Bioware please don't screw this one up for us ladies.
Re: the bolded part. I think this speaks more to an immature and shallow attitude toward people, rather than the shortcomings of a video game character. And please don't claim to speak for all 'ladies'.
