I rarely point out grammatical errors and generally don't care about them, as long as I can read it without more effort than I would need in a well typed text.

Well, I do care when it comes to my own posts. Though it can be difficult at times, as English is not my mother tongue.

And I appreciate well-worded posts much much more than any kind of 1337, or ones that have been written with an attitude that doesn't care for grammatics.

Proper grammar and spelling are extremely important as they can change the meaning of a phrase entirely. Example (in text form since I don't want to risk the image being edited out):

'I would rather be pissed off than pissed on'

...is much different than:

'I would rather be pissed off then pissed on.'

See the difference? Another example:

'I helped my uncle Jack off a horse' has a wholly different meaning if you do not capitalize the name Jack.

So very true . In French just the position of an adjective in a sentence can change the meaning.

However, I have noticed that there is a lot of anger at people who make any
kind of mistakes.

Some people will simply refuse to read a post as a matter of principle
regarding any kind of linguistic error.

The question is, why should I care if the web is plagued with poor spelling and grammar? I don't really pick up on this since I'm too busy looking at the content. As long as I can understand the post without looking at it a second time, I'm generally happy.

I want to hear your point of view. I am particularly
interested in the point of view of those who make a great deal out of pointing
out such mistakes. (Advance apologies for any errors in opening post).

you should care because its important that people understand what you are saying. its also aggrivating to read sum7hing 1n 1337sp35k OR ALL IN CAPS n rilldle wit spleling erorrs.

that being said, sometimes people can b a bit too picky. and thats all there is to it.

What bothers me is when people go out of their way to cut corners when trying to convey their message or purposefully misspell common words. For example-

Good- I went to the store today and guess who I ran into? JD. Good guy, haven't seen him in ages. Spent a while talking about the past and reflecting before we parted ways. Great stuff.

Bad- Yo i wen to da store nad I met that nig JD, real talk. Ain't seen that bwoy in a minute, messin wit dat real talk brah fo we split. Fo sho.

You have no idea how hard it was for me to type that out without chastising myself or refraining from using the many curse words that would usually suit that form of vocabulary.

Slang is fine, to a point. Cutting corners every now and again is fine. The occasional mistake is perfectly fine.

Thing is, there comes a time when its just ridiculous.

THAT, that is what gets under my skin.
