I decided to play ME2 again. It's been a while. First thing I noticed is I could'nt connect to servers. Well, I thought, it's an old game. Second thing I noticed in the top left of the picture I have displayed "PHYSX - CPU". I have no idea why! Obviously this is from my GPU (GTX480) but why is it being displayed? It never used to be! Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks in advance!

The on-screen advertisement is turned on and off somewhere in the drivers. PhysX offers two ways to do its job. If you had a less powerful GPU compared to your CPU, you might want to allow the CPU to run the PhysX functions. It can do either one when you have one or more nVIDIA Geforce graphics cards.

If you had upgraded from a lesser Geforce, such as a GTX 260, you could choose to leave it in the PC and use it as a dedicated PhysX processor. Anyway you need to get into the Display Properties, and from there into Driver settings.

Thanks for the reply. However I'm not sure I follow. ME2 is the only game that displays this message (which is in large letters in the top left) and it is always there but not, I must add, on my desktop. Only in ME2. I can change the "physx" from auto-select to cpu etc but it has no effect on the message being displayed.
Are you saying I need to go into the driver settings and make an adjustment within the driver properties? Because I have no idea how. All changes I make are via the Nvidia control panel.
Anyway, I appreciate your help.

Just checked Dragon Age 2 and it also has this message shown in the top left. Also these are Steam games. I'm wondering if they have been "altered" in some way since the fallout between EA and Steam! Whatever the issue is it only affects Bioware games!

I used nVIDIA cards for a dozen years, but the last half of that was a roller coaster ride, and I got off. They are just too unprofessional about how they do business. When the older grandkids stopped dropping in so regularly to play across the LAN here, I didn't need as many half-decent PCs any more, and have only Radeons in the ones I kept going.

That's by way of saying I've never had that happen to me, and I don't have a "mule" machine I can tinker with to see what it will do. My best estimate is that when you open Display Properties and then go into driver behiavior, it will be included among the options past one of the "Advanced" buttons, but nVIDIA is who to ask. They have very active forums with a lot of fans who think everything that Jen-Hsun Huang & his people do is always wonderful, and you'll get their special spin on your odd screen display there.

Okay, thanks for that. I had a feeling nvidia are the ones to deal with this. I still find it odd that it only affects Bioware games I purchased on Steam!!

Open Nvidia Control Panel...
At the top where the "File, Edit, etc" is, there is 3D Settings. Click it.
Uncheck Show Physx Visual Indicator.
Solved like a Bawse :P

This user has the right idea. That other one with the whole opinion of nVidia was quite irrelevant.

Also, this issue has nothing to do with Steam. Although that might be hard to believe. My friend doesn't own Mass Effect 3 on Steam (Because it obviously isn't there) and he had this same issue. WatchYerBak's suggested fixed it quite fine.
