If Isabela is black, Tony Blair is a unicorn.

I'm probably going to regret asking this, but why do you think Isabela isn't black?

Isolde. Yes, even if she died in Origins. And I want the Protagonist to have his last name be Teagan so every other piece of ambient dialogue from her would be "Ohh Teagaaaaaaaan!"
Seriously, I don't mind anyone. I'm just hoping it's more new people and less people coming back from past games as companions.

If we're going to have an Orlesian companion, i'd rather he be a male who hates his motherland.
In DAO i absolutely loved Leliana but whenever she talked about Orlais i wanted to slap her (i could never Image IPB)
And although i hated some things Loghain did ( betraying the army, selling slaves) his stance was 100 % understandable.

Who would be so stupid as to call for soldiers who had conquered his country only 30 years ago?Just impossible for various reasons...

Of course there must be good Orlesians but as a whole they are cunning, arrogant, racist, imperialistic and hypocritical.
An example is how the use the Chantry to inspire fear and the way they abuse Andraste to restrict the mages, strengthen the templars and sway the people with propaganda against the Qunari and Tevinter.

I'm interested in how Bioware is going to implement Orlais and not make the accents tiresome.

Personally,i'd like a small portion of the game to take place in Orlais and even less of that to have anything to do with mages vs templars. The qunari thing in DA2 was way more interesting.
But if they're going to have it it would be good if it included something deeper like Tevinter assisting the mages and destabalizing Orlais or Qunari taking advantage of the situation.

Anyway the easiest thing Bioware can do is make us a qunari and make the whole plot revolve around "answering a question of the Arishok"...simple,laconic, straight to the point like StenImage IPB

Orlesians without a beard or a mustache!

The current ones look pretty cheesy and immersion breaking to me. 3D graphics can't do hair properly yet and seeing those cheesy things on the orlesian faces completely breaks the believablity of the game.

If they make the protagonist an Orlesian who speaks with a French accent I will not buy the game. Period. Doesnt matter how good they make it I cannot listen to me (my character) talking with a French accent for 30 hours.

(Note: I am not complaining that the accents are fake, I know bioware hires real french people for VO's, I am just complaining that while I like Leliana's accent that's because I only have to listen to her when I talk to her, not every time someone says "hello, go kill a dragon for me"

Because she's not. She's "dark skinned" in the sense that her skin is darker than that of a caucasian. But by "black" people typically mean to indicate African ethnicity, not just "darker than a white person".

Isabella does not have the facial structure of someone who is ethnically African. She doesn't have the hair either, but that doesn't mean much because most games don't include African hair. Her skin colour is significantly lighter than that of most African ethnicities (with exclusion of ethnic groups like the san, which certainly aren't what people picture when they think "black") but even skin colour is secondary because we still think of people like Ice T, who is quite light skinned, as being black because his features are african. The biggest reason why Isabela can't be considered black is because her facial features are 100% caucasian .

Has anyone ever said that Isabela is intended to be black? Or did you assume? As a South African, the notion that she (or anyone else I can remember seeing in the DA franchise) might be supposed represent someone who is ethnically African never even occured to me. A gypsy or latina, yes, but she's only "black" in that she has a slightly darker skin tone than a white person. You can't just stick coffee coloured skin on a white person and call it a black person like it is somehow ethnically inclusive. A simple google search can show you what actual African women look like, and compared to African women Isabela looks like Kate Middleton with an artifical tan.
