I don't post in the forums often, but I wanted to write up a post somewhere the folks at Bioware might actually see it.

To all of you awesome folks at Bioware-

Thank you for Dragon Age.  I started with Origins on the 360, recommended by a friend who swore up and down that if I loved Mass Effect (which I did) that I'd love Dragon Age (which I do.)  And while I love Origins, DA2 really brought the franchise to life for me.

Thank you for Oghren, Morrigan, Alistair, Wynne, Dog, Leliana, Wardens, shops like the Wonders of Thedas, cultists in Haven, Flemeth, darkspawn, Duncan, epic cut scenes, engaging gameplay, banter, romance, fantastic music that I still listen to and enjoy immensely.  Thank you especially for Zevran and Sten :D  Thank you for characters and a world that started me writing creatively for the first time in nearly two decades.  Thank you for making me wonder "what if?" and for characters that made me laugh, cry, and fall in love.  Thank you for making a wonderful fantasy game that feels gritty and real in ways that other franchises like Final Fantasy never did, for me.

Thank you for Sigrun, Nathaniel, and Justice.  Velanna and her clown ears, well, I won't look a gift elf in the mouth.  She might turn me into a tree XD

Thank you for Fenris, Isabela, Merrill, Varric, Aveline, Carver, Bethany, even Sebastian, and a host of beloved NPCs.  Thank you especially for Anders, one of the most amazing, broken, polarizing, maddening, loveable characters I've encountered in any game or book, ever.  Thank you for Jethann, and Serendipity, and dwarves that cower and exclaim "Sweet mother of partha!"

Thank you for Carta and Coterie and Dusters and Paragons, for Dalish elves, city elves, elven slaves, keepers, crafters, and surly guards.  Thank for for vhenadahl trees that serve double duty as public urinals for drunk elves.  XD  Thank you for templars, mages, merchants, ****s, scores of people with only a line or two that nevertheless tug at my imagination.  Thank you for Bodahn and Sandal, for Leandra and Gamlen, for family that you love, and family that you love to hate.  Thank you for Meredith, Orsino, and Cullen.  Thank you for characters that my friends and I have spent hours drawing, writing about, thinking about, daydreaming about, debating and loving as surely as many of us ever did about characters from books in school.  Thank you for a world map that tantalizes in its incompleteness, for hints of a mysterious Qunari/kossith homeland which we have yet to see, of other continents, countries, for Tevinter and Rivain and Nevarra and Antiva, places that we've only heard about but for which we wait to visit with bated breath.

Thank you for plots that made me laugh, or smack my forehead in consternation, or weep.  Sometimes all of the above, at the same time.  Thank you for a combat system and beautiful graphics that improve with each installment in the series.  Thank you for books that fill in the amazing world of Thedas, for comics, for the upcoming movie, for DLC and codex entries.  Thank you for making a game that I can play for the eighth or ninth time and still find things that I've never seen or heard before.  Thank you for taking the time to do the little things, like the codex entry for the completed quest "Grimoire of the Apprentice," which reads "Bonwald has his shopping list.  Tremble, oh Thedas."  It may be a silly little quest but I laugh every time I finish it, always checking the codex to grin over that line.

Thank you for creating a game where one person can say "Sarcastic!Hawke's lines are so ridiculous!  And Anders' romance dialogue is so cheesy!"  and then someone else chimes in "Well, Varric is telling the story, right?  So maybe it didn't happen that way at all and he's just making up something he thinks will sound good!"  And then I get a bit of banter when running around town where Varric asks how it really went down, and is met with a "I don't think that's any of your business."  To which our oh-so-reliable narrator snarkily replies, "Well, I'll just have to make it all up then."  And I /facepalm and laugh and love every moment of cheesy dialogue, never knowing if Anders is really that dramatic, or whether it's simply Varric's retelling.  XD

I love this universe- I love the games, the books, the comics, the amazing people that I meet who love it as much as I do.  You have put so much into these games- the lore, the codices, the characters, the voice acting, the art, the dialogue wheel that people love and/or love to hate, the radial menu, the tactics system.  I love the fact that I can play some very, very different games depending on what stance I choose for my Hawke.  I love that I met Lia in Act III for the first time in the 10 months I've been playing this game, simply because I went to the right place at the right time and took Aveline with me.

You guys do an amazing job, and no matter how vocal the haters are, there are a great many people out there who love DA:O, DA:A, and DA2.  Keep up the great work, and I promise to keep shelling out my money as fast as I can.

Thanks again for being awesome, and keep up the good work.

I'm glad you enjoyed DA. You even enjoyed DA2 a lot more than DAO, which is great! Wish I enjoyed DA2 as much as you did. But even after DA2 I'm still curious to see what DA3 will be. I still like the Dragon Age universe a lot. That reminds me, I still have to read the Dragon Age books written by Gaider... or buy them, for that matter... But €15 is way too much. That's, like, $19!

I've got to agree with that!

And now... Cheese for everyone!

Wait, scratch that. Cheese for  no one.

..."Well, Varric is telling the story, right?"...

DA2 sucks.

Wait, Varric's telling the story, I think I'll blame him instead

I just finished reading Asunder. It is excellent and absolutely worth it.

I'd love to buy all three books, but a total of €47 is just too much for me. Even the first three Mass Effect books were around €27 ~ €30 together.

Why is it that everytime we want to enjoy something, there's always a party pooper around?

I agree with you OP.

The ip is great and one of my favourite, because it has a lot of depth and is well-thought. After I played DA:O + every dlc I bought both books. Never did that before. At the moment I'm waiting for Asunder to be translated into German. However, DA II damaged the ip to some extent, imo. I hope it'll recover with DA III.

Too bad EA is going to milk Bioware for every penny they can by ruining all of these things we hold dear and leave them to crumble into dust.

Because DA 2 is one of the most, if not the most, disappointing games in years.  Whenever a thread is posted that talks about it being a good game, you can be sure there will be posts contradicting a positive statement.  People want to make sure that Bioware/EA knows DA 2 was several steps in the wrong direction.

No, at this point they are doing it so they can admire their own posts. The time for constructive criticism has long since passed. Bioware got the message.

I installed the game recently, getting ready for a possible run of BioWare games this year, and I admit I felt a little tinge of excitement when firing it up to mess with all the settings.

I bet that means I like the game, even with all the suppuration.

You live in Europe, so you get free shipping from play.com just like I do in Sweden. The books are a lot cheaper there than they seem to be in your country =) Sure it takes a week or two for them to arrive, but it's definitely worth the wait! ^^

Bioware got the message, hence why they're sticking with the DA2 direction :?

Thank you for giving me a free download of ME2 which opened up a whole new wonderful universe from Bioware to me!!!!! (Made me buy ME1 because I don't like starting in the middle of a story.) So see? Bioware made more $$. lol

I thank them more for Mass Effect. But yes, thank you for Dragon Age too, although I was one of the ones very disappointed in DAII.

I would also like to add thank you for the toolset for Origins. Yes, we need an update with the Origins DLC, and yes DAII needs one. But the toolset was so great. Thanks.

Bleh. Too many thank you in the Op, tbh. ( How many ? )  I stopped reading that stuff in the middle of the post.

If they do and repeat the same lackluster and muddled effort, I fear DA will come to an end.

STOP IT! We already know you people hate this game. But for the REAL fans like us who don't mind these flaws, it is quite insulting and embarassing to see people like you coming over and over, all to spit out your hatred every frigging time someone wants to say something positive about this game. Dragon Age II has its fans and has its anti-fans, I don't care if you hate it, but let the REAL fans love it peacefully and stop harassing us! You're a real pain in the ass. Geez!

Edit: Bioware seriously needs to hire more moderators...

I agree with you friend, but don't sweat the small stuff. People have opinions and wherever there is a place they can present them anonymously without repercussions there will always be haters. Go play DA and enjoy yourself, you'll feel better. :wizard:

Whoa, calm down. Overreaction much?

This forum was made for people to express their opinions on Bioware's games. That includes positives and negatives, you can't have one without eventually seeing the other. No need to go up in arms just because someone disagrees with you.

Although the forum does need more moderators, criticism for DA2 is NOT one of the reasons why.

While I'm here-

I want to thank Bioware for Dragon Age:Origins.

DA2? Not so much. But the amount of hard work and effort put into DAO turned it into one hell of a game I had a ton of fun playing. Thank you for THAT. I hope Bioware can continue to put that much love and care into later titles.
