Clearly Mama Shepard would have words with all Shepards who decided to awaken Grunt; she didn't expect a Krogan grandchild.

For me, it would depend on which Shepard that introduced the LI to their mother.  For example, I created one playthrough were, before Shepard was born, a young and naive Hanna Shepard had an encounter with the Asari Consort Sha'ira.  The young Hanna was so dazzled by the asari that she decided to name her daughter after the Consort.  Many years later, the young Sha'ira Shepard is assigned to the Normandy not knowing the origin of her name.  After she meets the consort for the first time however, sparks fly and she has a shouting match with her mother while contacting her regarding Zalebeta.  Thus from then on, she only allows her crew to refer to her as Commander or Shepard.  Yes, before you ask, she did romance Liara, and in this snipit she refers to Shepard as Ra.  Thus I can imagine the meeting would be somewhat wierd.

Ra: "Now remember Liara, my mother has had little experience with the Asari so please forgive her if she seems.... misinformed?"

Liara: "Don't worry Shepard, I am sure this meeting will go smoothly.  The information I gathered suggests that your mother will be fine interacting with me."

Ra: (Groans) "Liara, what did I tell you about creepy information...."

Liara: (Smiling) "It never hurts to be prepaired Ra, you know that."

(The two walk up to Hanna Shepard's appartment on the Citadel and signal via the chime.  As the door opens, they walk in and Hanna rushes up to meet them.)

Hanna: "Sha'ira!  It's so good to see you!" (She hugs her daughter and then turns to Liara.)  "It's a pleasure to meet you Dr. T'soni.  My daughter has told me so much about you."

Liara: (Smiles and extend a hand to her future mother in law.) "Thank your Mrs. Shepard, it is good to meet you to as well.  Please call me Liara."

(The pleasantries continue as the trio gather in the sitting room to talk.  The group enjoys a little wine while waiting for dinner.)

Hanna: "So I understand you two are serious about each other.  If I may ask, how do you intend to handle the ceremony?"

Ra: (Shifts uncomfortably in her seat and looks to Liara.) "Ahh... We haven't discussed that yet."

Liara: "Most likely a combination of traditions between human and asari.  Unfortunately, because of Ra's Specter status and reputation, it will most likely be a high profile event.  Also, it will be seen as a symbol to the rest of the galaxy that humanity has moved beyond the zenophobia it first demonstrated after the First Contact War.  I don't doubt that there will be many compromises made between the traditions of both our races in order to ensure that one side is not left feeling the lesser to the other.  I do hope that when the time comes, I can recite the traditional human vows and Ra can speak the asari.  I think, in her voice, they would sound magnificent."

Ra: (Nods periodically from time to time to show she agrees with Liara.)

Hanna: (Claps her hands together and smiles.) "That sounds wonderfull!  Have you two thought about where you will go for your honeymoon?  The location is very important for the wedding night you know." (A glint enters her eyes as she looks upon the two in front of her.)

Ra: (Starts to pale with the new direction the conversation is taking.) 

Liara: (Tilts her head, indicating her confusion.) "Honeymoon? Location?  I must apologise Hanna, I don't understand the significance."

Hanna: (Glances sharply at her daughter who looks like she is about to panic.) "In human tradition the newlyweds consumate the marriage on the wedding night."

Liara: (Her face darkening in a blush.) "Ah, I see... The asari have something similar, however it does not require one to attempt to produce a child on The First Night."

Ra: (Makes a choking sound as she looks to Liara.  Her face begins to turn red as she tries to take control of the situation.)  "That's not what my mother meant Liara, the two traditions are the same.  Now, that enough of this subject.  Mom, I understand that you were offered an Admirals star again.  Are you going to accept?"

Hanna: (Waving her daughter off.)  "We can talk about that later Sha'ira." (Ra winces as her name in used.  Liara can't help but smile at the normally calm and cool specter.  Thrown so off ballance by her mother, the human looked adorable.)  "Speaking of children, do you two plan on having any?"

Ra: (Standing up with a shocked look on her face.) "MOTHER!"

Hanna: (Laughing.)  "Can you blame an old woman for wanting grandchildren?  I know the Union can be an intense and pleasurable experience, but don't forget that your mother wants little ones to spoil."

(Hanna and Liara continue to talk as Ra sinks back down onto the sofa.  There is a distinctly green tinge to her skin as the implications of her mother's statement set in.) "I'm named after a prostitute.... I'm named after the prostitute my mother slept with....  Why me....?"

It's safe to say the night would continue to go downhill from there.

Unknown. Spacer!Shepard dad isn't mentioned once. Aurora313, one of the Ashley fans, created a dad for Shepard, "Admiral Kaine" ... in that case, our Shepard is an illegitimate child of Admiral Kaine and Hannah Shepard.

Hah, I like that! It would explain why he's never mentioned in the game. 

I just wondered, because I only have one Spacer, so I can't remember if he was mentioned, and I know Hannah has been mentioned a few times. Hopefully if Shep does meet up with his/her mother, the father will be mentioned, whether he's alive, dead, or whatever.

I would like to explain that while yes, my Shepard is a bastard (pun intended... sort of) his father and mother do eventually marry when he was a child. The two reasons why Shepard hadn't changed his name to 'Kaine' were:

1 - Admiral Kaine was also known as the 'Iron Kaine', the most brutal and ruthless CO on the battlefield. (though he's actually a pretty nice guy, and a fun dad when he can spare the time) My Shepard didn't want to exist in that particular shadow.

2 - Kaine felt guilty about getting the kid to change his name, considering that his son had been named for him already (Kaine's first name and Shepard's middle name is Malcolm) and he hadn't been present for the first few years. Kaine wasn't aware of my Shepard's existance until the boy was about four or five. Even then, it was a happy accident. Hannah had taken Shepard to the citadel when he was just a toddler and they bumped into each other.


Anyway. My headcannon aside, I would very much love to see a tearful reunion between Mama!Shep and Shepard. And then a scene where they introduce the LI formally. If one stays loyal or has a ME1 love interest, then mama!shep and the LI probably already know of each other, but it's still nice to have that interaction. I know that Mama!Shep would be busy with the whole Reaper thing, but sometimes you have to spend some time with family even if it's only for a minute or two.

Introducing an LI to your video game mom? I like this portion of the game as much as the same person, but there are limits you have to pass in order to get into this creepy of territory.

Also seems pointless, considering that the Doomsday clock is at 11 in ME3.

I think it'd be interesting but I'm not clamoring for it. I just hope Hannah's in the game, given that from 1 to 2 she receded from talking to her kid to sending them emails. Hope she acknowledges their existence this time around.

Lol ^ this would so happen.

But the one thing with  having garus/thane/liara/tali as LI and introducing them to Hannah is, she might be rooted in millitary tradition. I'm also pretty sure the alliance wouldn't let a non-human or half-human child join.

You don't need to be fertile to have kids.

Well, you do in order to give birth, but you can adopt.

Of those LIs, Shep can only have a kid with Liara. There's no such thing as a half-human child.

You do make an interesting point though. Why isn't there more immigration in the ME'verse? Like asari, turian etc. families that have settles on Alliance worlds and taken up Alliance citizenship and vice versa with humans living in other species' worlds.

There was a reason she resigned, and I'm sure an intelligent woman like Mrs. Shepard will acknowledge that.

Because Liara has been the only s/s love interest throughout the entire game series due to Bioware dropping the ball in ME1 and removing all other s/s love interests in ME1. In ME2 they just removed the s/s LI's because Casey Hudson said so which ticked off a lot of gamers. So this is why at least from my point of view why it's always Liara.

My first three words were 'Of those LIs'. The LIs listed were aliens. The human LIs were not germane to the discussion.

Yes I specifically referenced the email the second game. I was making a joke about Hannah's reduced content from 1 to 2, in saying that she might disappear in 3 [/facepalm]

Its still such a bad decision. They didn't even make that much of an effort to remove it since its still on the discs for both systems. Thats one thing they should've left in. Hopefully they rectified that in ME3.

Miranda: "Please to meet you Mrs.Shepard.."
Hannah: "Nice to meet you too darling. You can call me Hannah... OK lets' take a seat first..."
<After few seconds>
Hannah: "John never told me how you two met each other.."
Shepard: "That's because it is a long sto..."
<Suddenly Shepard hears a *beep* sound in his earpiece>
*Admiral Hacket: "Shepard, Five Reapers will be entering Illium obit in fifteen minutes."*
Hannah: "You were saying..."
Shepard: "I should go."
