Using the command console and achievements?

I know silly things like achievements are completely inconsequential, and I'll probably respec anyway, it's just something I want to consider before I do it.

I wonder how many emails BioWare are receiving because you've been telling players how to use the console to fix various issues?TallBearNC wrote...

There are 3 particular scripts that he said would disable profile updating
if used. He specifies them in the same thread that lists all the scripts.
Your post has one of two possible motivations behind it I suspect:
1. You commented without reading the thread completely and assumed
all scripts would disable profiles if used, or read but did not comprehend
what you read.
or
2. You did read and comprehend but due to a personal objection to
anyone using scripts you attempted to scare people from using any
script by intentionally misleading them into thinking the use of any
script would disable profile updates.

LOL only VERY specific console things do that and I have warned people not to use them.. if they do it's their own fault. I've used the console to fix many things and my characters are updating. someone from BW wrote that the site wasn't updating things for days and they fixed it earlier tonight, but with all the flood of updates they will be getting, it could take up to 24+ hrs to show and many ppl will have trouble connecting because the servers will be flooded.

Use the console to FIX things.. not to cheat at things... (besides using a trainer is MUCH faster anyway)
If you want to cheat.. use a trainer LOL that WONT flag you as a cheater no matter what you do with the trainer
My FIRST character I made and my first runthrough was normal game play.. after that.. im after different stories , romances, and endings, and combat is just an annoyance that's in my way. So on any runthrough after the frist I set all my party's stats to 200 on every stat.... they 1 hit kill most anything up to level 8 or 9... and at the end of the game the archdemo goes down in <60s LOL

I vote for #2 just based on the tone of that person's post.
Personally, if I were stuck like many of these people, I would say SCREW the online updates and let me finish the game no matter what because your QA dept SUCKS and released one of the MOST buggy single player games in history LOL
And yes I listed the 3 specific ones that would list ppl as a cheater and WARNED people ONLY to use the scripts to FIX things vs cheat... if ppl do something other that what I suggest.. well .. that's their own fault

i only used the console to give me monies sometimes and once or twice i gave Leliana unlock skills and thats about it about trainers well i did nt checked for DA:O but if it s like most games bunch of them are crap and not so sure about if they are safe or not i guess i could try to find one someday but it s kind of fast typing zz_money

I've been using some of the debug tools to try to test causes of crashes and find ways round them. Personally I'm not going to lose any sleep if that wrecks my online profile, but I'd naturally prefer that it didn't.

First off, did you actually notice the smilies I used in my post? Maybe I should have used "/sarcasm on / off" tags? I guess you read and failed to comprehend why the smilies were used.zornax wrote...

I don't intend to get into any sort of debate about what I read, or what I did or did not comprehend, but just to make sure there's absolutely no misunderstanding on your part (or anyone else's) I have absolutely NO objection to anyone using the console to run scripts for any reason, I couldn't care less if anyone uses the console, a trainer or the toolset to change, alter or otherwise make any changes whatsoever to their save games. It's a single player game, people are free to do whatever they want with it.

EDIT: Added in two more console commands that should be avoided and removed a website link.Wozearly wrote...
Could someone either state, or link to a thread that states, the console commands that disable people's profiles? That would be handy for people to be aware of, whatever their intentions are when using the console.

The three I've found are:
runscript cheat - Inspired: Major Cunning - Adds 30 armor and 100 defense to Party for 120 second. Note: The script in the game source says it sends an email to georg@bioware.com, brent@bioware.com, yaron@bioware.com saying Sorry, I had to cheat
runscript zz_supercrit player - Adds 1000 health/mana/stamina to your main character (flags all save games with cheater tag)
runscript cheater - Adds all achievements to your player profile (flags all save games with cheater tag)
There are a number of websites that provide instructions on using the command console along with many console commands.

There's a fairly decent listing of console commands and instructions at: dragonage.wikia.com/wiki/Console
I deliberately avoided giving that site out... although most anyone could have yahooed or googled it.. many scripts there can damage or break someone's game and many others (other that the one you marked) will get you branded as a cheater.

Seeing as I've now editied my post that you're quoting, including removing the link that I originally included, you might want to edit your post to remove the quote of my original, un-edited post.TallBearNC wrote...

Is there a way to tell if you have been branded a cheater? It doesn't bother me too much, but I'm a bit worried if I won't be able to carry on my character to Dragon Age 3
