I'm worried that if I'm a renegade, I won't be able to romance Tali or if I'm a paragon, I won't be able to romance Ashley or Garrus. Will approval cancel out previous romances?

You can romance anyone regardless of paragon and renegade. However if you pick too many options as renegade when your talking to certain people then they are put off e.g Liara, Jacob and Jack. However no one is put off by paragons.

I don't think they're bringing in the DA approval system; that wouldn't make any sense at this point in the series (seeing as half your squad would be maxed out from the start).

Yeah, they are and I'm worried that my Paragon Ashmancing Shepard is going to get Ash to dump him over picking Paragon options.
