Is that what I read correct:

"This product contains a code that can be redeemed for a downloadable content pack for Mass Effect 3 multi-player. It is slightly randomized during the registration and could include powerful new weapons and new characters. The pack could also include character boosters, weapon modifications, and weapon upgrades to make your multi-player squad stronger. (Only supported on XBox360 and PC.)"

Randomized? So if someone dishes out the full 68 bucks for a whole set, s/he could end up with four times the very same bonus???

Now that definately needs some clarification.

I like how often this DLC boogeyman thought process comes up.

And people wonder why bills like SOPA exist.

Not anymore. They're scared ****less of the threat of cyber hackers, and the whole world is a potential suspect because this bill getting passed is going to make so many people angry.

Don't pirate. I hate you if you pirate anything . Content creators make things and if you want to access it, do it through the proper channels. They rely on it and the content will suffer for everyone. Pirating is so lame.

The difference is the Dr.Pepper while much cheaper the codes were reusable so everyone just shared them.

Uh, I wasn't around on the forums when that happened, and even then, I shouldn't have to jump through multiple hoops just to access those items.

270 euros for just some stupid figurines and a random weapon pack or skin is just scandalous!

I'll give some links to Collector's Editions of other games that are far less expensive than this bull:

Assassin's Creed Brotherhood Codex Edition for 70 dollars (full game AND bonus content):

http://www.joystiq.c...-edition-in-eu/

The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings Collector's Edition for about 130 dollars (full game AND bonus content):

http://www.gamestop....s-edition/88308

The latter (Witcher 2) may be more expensive, but 129 dollars is still far less than the 270 dollars one has to pay for EA's newest figurine franchise...

Also, as I've mentioned before, even the Collector's Edition of Skyrim costs about 150 dollars...

I've got this amazing idea. It's called not buying something.

And besides, isn't this more like "Hey thanks for buying our expensive figurines. Have some free DLC, which is normally sold separate for less than or equal to $5"?

The more I hear about this topic the more i just want to skip ME3 entirely. Bioware, your marketing and distribution professionals really suck at their jobs. Seriously, those are the people who are supposed to make me feel excited to buy your products, and instead they are doing exactly the opposite.

Well, it depends on the quality of the figurines too, I guess...And on the content of the DLC. But I guess you're right. Still...I think EA might indeed be breaking a record with this.

Also: Collector's Edition of Uncharted 3 for 90 euros:

(the price might not be stated on the pic, but I guess you guys won't be THAT lazy to look it up for yourselves, hm?)

I view this as buying figurines + digital extra bits. You reading this people? FIGURINES.

And I highly doubt that the included DLC will be both exclusive and substantial. If it's substantial, it will be available separately so they can maximize sales by download. So if it is exclusive (and I'm not saying it is), I believe it'll probably be something like multiplayer skins.

Extra weapons and characters are a big deal and should be in the full game

It's an item pack DLC by the sounds of it. Does that even count as adding to 'full' game experience?

Besides, the itempack DLC is more a bonus that comes with the collectable figurines.

People freak out too much.

I just hope the game in itself (ME 3) won't suffer under all of this unnecessary DLC. I mean, it's, like, drowning in DLC already and it hasn't even been released yet!

I already bought the overpriced DDE and now I'm supposed to buy toys too? No way, I won't do that for extra weapons.

It's just a bunch of armor and weapons (and characters)? Remember Mass Effect 2, where you would have almost no progression in terms of equipment whatsoever because there was so little to choose from? And remember the overpowered DLC stuff that makes you start the game with the same equipment as you would end it with?
Yes, it hurts the complete experience, as it throws balance out the window and invalidates the whole equipment progression aspect. Not just that, you have to pay extra for something that should be natural for a game of this kind. In order to make DLC stuff attractive they have to make it overpowered. In the end nothing fits together, things are either missing or made obsolete.
You don't take out chapters from a book that are not essential for the main story and sell them extra. It will hurt the complete experience. The only way someone can defend this ripoff is because they were not arround when this was not normal yet or because they are profiting from this rape of intellectual property.

In one of the several other topics about these figures someone mentioned he emailed them and was told it's multiplayer content. That pretty much sums up how substantial it'd be.

Really I'm at a loss at just how this topic has gone on so long, I mean, really, are people that obsessive about having absolutely everything?

All the in-game content that is DLC for the Witcher 2 is also available for free download. The price of the collectors edition comes from physical collector gimmicks. You always get the full game.

Yes they are.  That and looking for any possible reason to cry foul.

That's just silly. Most games with DLC are balanced just fine without them.

You are removing more of the game during debugging than by creating DLC.

well that article is a mountain out of a molehill.

My daughter plays moshi monsters and if I buy her a pack of figures for like £4.95 she gets a code to redeem for an item to decorate her room or to feed her monster. This is pretty much the same thing that is happening here.

No, it's not fine, and the comparison is ridiculous.

Most of the games without DLC offer a great gameplay experience by themselves. Adding new stuff that improves on that, is no different than Expansion Packs. It's just that those additions tend to be smaller, significantly cheaper, and well, they are downloadable.

DLC is just a nice name for contemporary small expansion packs.

If you don't feel that the game offers you enough content by itself, don't buy it, or buy it used, or when the price drops. As I said, I would have done that with ME1, had I actually considered that back then.

I personally could have done fine without Arrival, LotSB or any of the weapon and armor packs when it comes to the story. Provided that the next installment gave me an explanation why certain things happened.

And by the looks of things, ME3 will do just that.
