You HAVE to buy a toy? It's required? Nope. Not really.

Also, do you have some information that no one else does? That this is exclusive DLC only available through the purchase of these toys? Didn't think so.

Unless your objection is literally that DLC exists at all. In which case I have no sympathy at all. Things cost money. If you want them, buy them. If you don't, don't.

Uh, Mass Effect 2 had that precedence, and it's called Dr. Pepper promotions. Last time I checked, it never got released in a different DLC pack except for the PS3.

The difference is the Dr.Pepper while much cheaper the codes were reusable so everyone just shared them.

Yeah not having the DLC available for the PS3 is another thing that has me scratching my head.... why would they have DLC on the 360 and PC and NOT on the third medium the PS3?

Seems a bit...odd or uninformed to me.

Either way I doubt its anything more than a MP character skin or a few other non essential things, Honestly I'm not too concerned.

I'll wait for dev comments before anything.

I have a general rule of thumb for DLC: Never spend more money on DLC than you did on the game. So I have a $80 limit (yes, I pre-ordered the N7 edition) on DLC for ME3.

Not for long.  As soon as they realized people were doing that, they changed it so they weren't reusable.  Luckily, I managed to get the stuff during that window.

It would be nice if people would wait until they had the slightest clue what the DLC in question was beofre freaking out.

I don't know - I still think ME2 holds the record.

Mass Effect Galaxy + iPhone = DLC - Thats some expensive additional stuff right there.

Of course the kicker was the app game didn't actually give you anything extra in the game.

That's a good rule of thumb. Makes DLC seem more like an expansion pack that way

I believe I spent $37 on DLC for ME2, and I think I have almost everything.

Does anyone else think it's a bit silly to say that Mass Effect 3 costs $271.96 because there are in-game bonuses for buying overpriced Skylanders from them? It's like saying StarCraft 2 costs an additional $175 because there are in game bonuses for attending Blizzcon.

At least anyone can get the ME figures anywhere in the the world (well, I presume so - I haven't been to everywhere) - but BlizzCon is limited to geographic locaiton - or your ability to fly and take time off of work.

I'm of the belief that we'll get a full experience with the vanilla version. But that doesn't mean Bioware hasn't gone overboard with DLC. The way they market the game makes me laugh. Just offer the DLC alone and for an affordable price for christsake. Bundling it with an action figure is ridiculous.

Well considering I got Mass Effect 1 and 2 for 20 bucks, I'd say the DLC for those 2 games alone are at least twice that. I wouldn't be surprised if the DLCs for ME3 were that expenssive, though I would be disappointed. Most likely EA is behind this and not Bioware. We all know how greedy EA is.

Doesn't EA just publish the game? How are they the same company? Bioware makes the games, EA publishes. It's like Crytek made Crysis and had it published by EA.

If EA can buy another independent studio for Command and Conquer, and then say the game is made by 'Bioware'...

That means Bioware is a brand name.

Well it IS EA-Bioware now.

Bioware is now a wholly owned subsidiary of EA. It's like Microsoft and Microsoft studios :)

They're EA's golden dev house now.

They were eatens by the EA monster and subsumed into its form so to speak

Husband brought up a cool idea - what if the figure came with a little statue of that character that you could put in Shepard's cabin in the Normandy?

Anyway, either way, these are only $20 figures. They're going to come with some dinky DLC, like a prop or a gun or something. It's not going to come with something substantial like a mission or a character, when they could release those separate and charge between $7 and $20 a piece for.

(And, FWIW, I say *only* $20 figure because, honestly, $20 for a figure is cheap. Of course, I buy mostly the higher end PVC figures from Japan that cost $80-150, and that's not taking crap exchange rate into account.)

Even so, how substantive can the DLC get? Its the end of the trilogy, are they suddenly going to pull out story dlc or character mission dlc? If its just for the weapons, I don't care enough to spend extra to get another sniper or assault rifle. Now if they start making story dlc exclusive to third party things like toys, that would be a dumb move on their end.

I'm talking about day 1 DLC (not post-release DLC), why is it left out of the game? How can i not feel cheated out when i have to pay for something that should've been put into the game and yes if this trend continues then i will either stop buying altogether or most likely pirate, this is why piracy is so rampant b/c ppl feel cheated out, if i think it is worth $60+ then yes i will buy it b/c i do believe ppl deserved to be paid for their hard work but poor business practices like this makes me feel cheated out, like i said if this trend continues, don't be surprised to pay $60 for half a game and an extra $10 for the end as DLC, and i don't blame Bioware (or the devs) I blame EA and their executives since they make ALL decisions, they have the final say

But where that whole argument falls apart for is is right at the beginning. "Should have been put into the game".

Should have been? Why? Because you say so? Because you demand it? Because leaving it out hurts you in some way? No, because they chose to leave it out. And now they choose to try and sell it for money. If it sells well, they will keep doing it. If it doesn't, they won't.

So don't buy it. That's the only message you can send. But the fact that some people see the offering a crappy product as a personal attack just leaves me scratching my head.

it should have been put in the game because they developed it for the game, why take it out only to put it back in, they "took" it out so they could make extra money off of it as DLC, don't be so naive . . . this is business and doing this is poor business practice . . . things will always get worse, if they can charge us for things pre-release than why not take out more and more game content and charge us for that? they will do it b/c ppl will "support" them . . . like i said don't be surprised when they make us pay $60 for half a game and make us pay $10 for the end of the game as DLC . . . things always escalate, it started with post-game DLC (nothing wrong w/ that), when that was successful then it became pre-order/CE (to get "exclusive" DLC), now its pre-release paid DLC, whats next? that's why i am concerned and thats when piracy get worse and worse b/c ppl will eventually stop buying and start pirating and then these companies will try to push even harder new laws like SOPA (and yes i kno it failed but that doesn't mean it can't become an issue later in the future)
