it should have been put in the game because they developed it for the game, why take it out only to put it back in, they "took" it out so they could make extra money off of it as DLC, don't be so naive . . . this is business and doing this is poor business practice . . . things will always get worse, if they can charge us for things pre-release than why not take out more and more game content and charge us for that? they will do it b/c ppl will "support" them . . . like i said don't be surprised when they make us pay $60 for half a game and make us pay $10 for the end of the game as DLC . . . things always escalate, it started with post-game DLC (nothing wrong w/ that), when that was successful then it became pre-order/CE (to get "exclusive" DLC), now its pre-release paid DLC, whats next? that's why i am concerned and thats when piracy get worse and worse b/c ppl will eventually stop buying and start pirating and then these companies will try to push even harder new laws like SOPA (and yes i kno it failed but that doesn't mean it can't become an issue later in the future)

No one is being naive. I fully admit that this is what they are doing.  But that is their right. You are entitled to nothing but what you pay for. You can complain about, you can say it's a bad business practice. But it's their right to sell their product however they wish. And so I say for the thousandth time, if you don't like it don't buy it. I'm not going to either.

yes that is their right but that doesn't mean we should defend or even support them, i certainly won't, we the consumers control their "means" and if you defend them then they will continue their poor business practice b/c they "kno" that they have "supporters", the gaming industry STRONGLY supported SOPA and PIPA but the backlash was so overwhelming that they backed off, we shouldn't empower them by defending their poor business practice is all i'm saying

It's not the DLC that costs money, it's the figurines. The DLC is just a promo item thrown in with them, like a bonus code for a game for buying the Strategy Guide.

All right. You and I are really arguing about nothing. It's clear you are not someone spouting hysteria, but have a principled objection.

My only point to begin with was that this is a small freebie being given away to promote a silly toy. It's multi-player content which was probably never intended to be in the full game, because the whole multi-player component of the game is tacked on by EA in order to sell MP DLC. But the solution is the same, don't buy it.

And while I sympathize with Americans about this whole SOPA debacle, for those of us who don't live there, it's hard to see that as all that important to our own lives.

Damn them they probably spent $ they could have used for the main game to hire people (mostly child labor for sure) to waste time making special content for dolls & screwing thier devoted fans into the poor house...

It was probably even made with $ set aside based on projected DLC sales & will accually be out for everyone & is throw into the toys as a cool bonus ala the batman beyond movie skins...

You do realize the money is for the figurines right? The DLC is just a bonus. But, I don't think it's fair people get "powerful new weapons and new characters" just for buying a stupid doll.

Maybe it means you start with a level 5 Drell or something. It's MP content, so it's not like you are missing out on a squadmate.

It also says "could include". It could include nothing but a hat.

On the product page (sure it has been posted here already but anyway):

This product contains a code that can be redeemed for a downloadable content pack for Mass Effect 3 multi-player. It is slightly randomized during the registration and could include powerful new weapons and new characters. The pack could also include character boosters, weapon modifications, and weapon upgrades to make your multi-player squad stronger. (Only supported on XBox360 and PC.)

This is just speculation but...
Therefore, they are only codes so you can level up your multiplayer character faster (i.e. instead of getting a certain weapon or character type once your multiplayer character reaches level 15, you get it now because of a code, kind of like Splinter Cell: Conviction's pre-order weapon DLC). Good for single-player enthusiasts like myself because I don't care and good for multiplayer fans because they don't loose out on content in the long run, only shortcuts.

Also, I bet these types of multiplayer codes will be rewards for any social game they will eventually come out with. The completionist in me can sleep relatively well tonight.

P.S. I'm pretty sure Ace Combat 6 has the most expensive total amount of DLC ever (you don't get action figures, only skins). Interesting enough, according to here (http://www.1up.com/n...ge-ace-combat-6), Ace Combat 6 + all DLC + flight stick = $271

EDIT: my bad, cut out some of the details on the product page

This is exactly what I was thinking. Like the unlockable weapons for Team Fortress 2. A bunch of stuff that you can get, or get to, by just playing the game.

I fail to see why this is such a big deal. You pay $17.99 for an action figure and get some small DLC out of it. They aren't exclusive, as far as we know, and I seriously doubt they will be. If you want to, and I stress the word WANT, you can buy them separately as standard DLC. Just like the 'free' DLC from the Cerberus network in ME2.
And I still can't seem to fathom why everyone is complaining about DLC in the first place. So, what most of you want is a game every 2 years, with everything fathomable jammed into it at $60... pipe dream. Has anyone been shortchanged on a Mass Effect game yet? You drop $60 and get 20 to 30 hours of play (minimum), what else can you do for $3 an hour (and that's just one playthrough)? Of course they could include these in the games and charge you $70 or $80 for the game... which most of you would complain about. Of course adding all potential DLC in for the initial pressing would increase time between games, which again, would draw complaints. It's not like this is even a new concept... PC gamers have been paying for expansion packs for years.

If you don't want the guns or whatever you'll get don't buy the flipping toys. They are toys. They aren't action figures, they aren't statuettes, they are toys. plastic pieces of junk molded poorly into the shape of a character from the game and sold for $20. It's cheap, plastic, crap. If you don't want it don't buy it. because it's cheap plastic crap the DLC won't be that great. And it will probably be available for $2 later. but ultimately whether or not I can get them later I don't care because they're toys and a bit of mystery DLC is not worth a large investment in toys.

As long as they eventually put everything for sale, for everyone, I'll be happy. By the way, where the hell is my collector armor and rifle!? "Oh, hey, you bought ME2 on xbox? oh...yeah we're kinda over that, but you can get that stuff on PSN. Cheers!"
