With some of the other characters I've seen, reasons are given for why they dislike/distrust/whatever a species, so I was curious if there's some reason for it in his backstory, if whether it's just for teh evulz or something.

I don't think it's been explained as of yet.

Oh. In that case, I hope it's explored in ME3. It's good to have villains that are as interesting as the squadmates and various other 'good' characters.

Most of the humans that are anti-alien, justify their distrust/hatred of aliens on the First Contact War. It is probably no different with Kai Leng. He views them as rivals or enemies rather than allies.

I dunno, but I hope I get to slug him a final one. TIM too. Retribution made me really start to hate Cerberus. (Haven't read Ascension yet, but I gather it won't change my opinion for the better)

Wouldn't surprise me. It was the same justification with some of the aliens (in ME1, anyway, ME2 had 'humans are taking over/killed the Council, etc'). But I was wondering if it was just a general thing, or more personal. Like how I think Saren had a brother who died and therefore had a grudge against humans.

Us humans are superior to most aliens anyway, so why shouldn't we look down on them?

Only a handful of races truly matter. Everyone else is just so much chaff.

I kinda doubt they'll give a good reason. They will try to make him look senselessly evil.

Well, between Kai Leng and the aliens, Kai Leng didn't create governments based entirely on species, with no known multicultural governments.

Just sayin'.

Nor did anyone alive today.
In any case, asari society is heavily pluralistic in terms of governments.

... and than there are people calling Ash a "racist"?

I don't think humans are overly racist. They may be reserved, some elder people even might fear Turians or Elcors for example. And sure, we might have nationalists - patriots - like Ashley. Most of those guys are "no big fans" of aliens, but they also won't ever shove a gun into a Asari or Salarian face.
Besides that, in ME I saw more openly racist Turians and Asari than humans. That also shows something, right? Humans are the new guys and since they're quite loud and visible they never got a huge "fanbase". The Asari seem to be the race with least issues. The Salarians seem to be open-minded but reserved, the Turians have a friendly but cool relationship with humans. Volus are not very happy since they still have no seat in the Council. Elcor are friendly and welcomed the new guys. Dunno about Drell & Hanar. Krogans don't care and Quarians never had enough contact. A lot of Batarians hate humans, but they also hate the Council races too since they still feel betrayed.

In short: the ME universe comes with a lot of racism. Humans fit the crowd without being overly racist.

Dunno about Kai Leng yet. He might have reasons for what he does.
He's a nationalist for sure and wants human supremacy - that's it. And guess a lot of humans agree here too.

Its like murdering a serial killer. Ironic? Sure. Justified? To me, yes.

@Kaiser: I've been around here long enough to know that arguing about this with you is fairly pointless; but i fail to see how we're "Superior," in any actual sense. If anything, Bioware has always made efforts to equalize the galaxy. Hell, TIM was scared enough of the Flotilla to take action against it.

With the exception of a few poor races; the vlous, elcor, hanar, etc. Most species in Mass Effect can be considered equal in terms of value and power, just for different reasons.

Hate makes you loose nuances in understanding, nuances that allows you to better solve a situation long term without nasty side effects biting you and others in the buttocks later on. Thats why it should be avoided to take control (duh!)

There's an easy way to not be scared.  Rule the galaxy

Too bad, that is impossible in real life.  Enjoy your fantasy

Mm, only if you allow it to override logic.  For example, there are a couple people obsessed with being too nice, and they allow this to overrule their logic.  In meeting a bad alien, these people will suffer the consequences of their ideas.

@this thread.

It's speciesism, not racism.

Pretty sure the vast majority of Bioware writers are quite healthy.

And given the lifespan of the Asari, it's more than likely a few of their grandmothers were responsible.

Did I say reality? No, I said in Mass Effect. Regardless, you haven't given a reason why what I said was wrong, most likely due to the fact that I'm not; Turians with their fleets and status in C-Sec, Salarians with their STG and technology, Asari with their politics and biotics. All of them are council races, and hence have equal voice in what happens in the galaxy. Humans are the token new kids, and could be easily wiped off the face of the map if they decided to seriously irritate the other races.

So yes, I will gladly enjoy my fantasy, because that's why I play it.
