I know such a concept is probably beyond you, but shouldn't we respect and allow dignity for all sapient life? People are people. There are saints and sinners, winners and losers. ect. Other races are no different.Kaiser Shepard wrote...
Us humans are superior to most aliens anyway, so why shouldn't we look down on them?
Only a handful of races truly matter. Everyone else is just so much chaff.

And looking down on a different race that is on your level of intelligence or even has the potential to be just because of different looks and stereotypes is inherently racism. It's the same mentality of white supremacist groups.

Hate makes you loose nuances in understanding, nuances that allows you to better solve a situation long term without nasty side effects biting you and others in the buttocks later on. Thats why it should be avoided to take control (duh!)
Mm, only if you allow it to override logic. For example, there are a couple people obsessed with being too nice, and they allow this to overrule their logic. In meeting a bad alien, these people will suffer the consequences of their ideas.
So going on a rampage, attacking aliens, and going crazy makes someone not a person?BlueMagitek wrote...

Listen, first people said Krogan were people. Then the Krogan go on a rampage.
Then people said Turians were people. Then Turians go about attacking new species on sight.
Finally said people said Rachni were people, and we have a hint at how that's going to turn out.

Is Wrex a person? Is Garrus a person? Was the Rachni Queen not a sentient creature? Well clearly they aren't becuase the species they belong to have flaws like overeacting and groupthink. Unlike humanity... oh wait.
Can't argue with that logic.

It's speciesism, not racism.

So I wonder how much racism towards fake aliens correlates to racism in real life.

In an entirely fictional setting? Ok. I'll go back to doing that, yes.Peer of the Empire wrote...
Too bad, that is impossible in real life. Enjoy your fantasy
Assuming we don't come across a Lovecraftian horror beyond our means of understanding, I'd say if we do meet up with intelligent aliens one day this era's racism will be completely comparable. I don't see why we shouldn't practice tolerance and acceptance to species of the xeno-variety now, even if it is in fiction.AdmiralCheez wrote...

Completely agreed. Plus, I like the aliens, both the histories/cultures of each species as a whole and the characters as individuals.Blacklash93 wrote...

If people keep the attitudes like that on the TIM thread towards real-life aliens, we're probably in for quite a mess.
