I'm running Dragon Age Origins Ultimate on Steam. Mods have been installed but not recently, and up until now things have worked smoothly. I went to create a new character and after the character creation the game will crash. There is no exact error code or message, just simply "Dragon Age: Origins has stopped working". This also happens whenever my current warden tries to open her skills up (ex: to access herbalism to make poltices).

It's not Steam that crashes. I tried Awakening, and Awakening runs fine. I think what's causing the game to crash is the opening cinematic (at least for the character creator part); the crash happens no matter if mods are used, male or female, or which Origin. I imported a modded character into Awakening and it also worked fine. I'm running out of ideas.

These are the mods that are installed:
CC extra tints & tones v. 1.3
Compatibility Patches for 0 51-392
Cullen Romance Option - Mage Origin (Cmessaz)
Marry Alistair, any Origin
Extra Dog Slot v.141 (Dheuster)
More Hairstyles (Kzelsama)
PTs Vibrant Colors 1 31-153
Alternate Alistair Kiss mod
Skip the Fade (hdhd)
Tal Storage Chest
Updated Chargemorphcfg file
Utility sack
Urn of Sacred Ashes Sten Skin
Combat Tweeks (By Dennis Lee)[/list]
Those are all 3rd party mods, not official mods, considering I don't think official mods would be mucking up the works. I'm not entirely sure how helpful that list is going to be, considering they're not very specific mod numbers, but I figured I would be as thorough as possible. The only mods that would be interacting much with the character creator (More Hairstyles, PT vibrant colors, etc) were all installed when my first character was created, and it ran smoothly enough to run the character then.

I do not know how related the skill set crash issue and the character issue are, if at all.

System specs are as follows (I'm sure someone is going to ask)

Get a real gaming machine. Simple. You aren't SUPPOSED to be able to run the game properly on substandard hardware.

Windows XP Minimum Specifications
OS: Windows XP with SP3
CPU: Intel Core 2 Single (or equivalent) running at 1.6Ghz or greater
AMD 64 (or equivalent) running at 2.0Ghz or greater
RAM: 1 GB or more
DVD ROM (Physical copy)
20 GB HD space
Video Card: ATI Radeon X850 256MB or greater (this is clearly wrong)
NVIDIA GeForce "6600 GT" 128MB or greater (and this one is more wrong)

(Note: IMO, the practical choices for the two video cards above should be the Radeon X800 Pro, and the Geforce 6800 GS, at least, for small textures - it will take a Radeon X1650 XT (or X1800 GTO, same thing, almost) for medium or better textures)

INTEL'S GARBAGE (Graphics Chip) IS NOT SUPPORTED

The accident that some Intel chips with certain drivers can "walk with" the tutorial segment encourages owners of such cheap video solutions to try to do more.  Over time, the demands of gaming will cause the premature failure of the Intel products (at least a sizable portion of the total), which were not designed to handle that kind of stress.
