But I just see him getting pushed to the backround as everyone who wanted someone else from the past back more will rage that we get Vega instead. I know for me If Jack gets regulated to just a story element and not a campanion it will make me resent Vega all the more.
Its the third game we all want our favs back.... And they bring in Vega?

Welcome to the world of Kaidan/Ashley fans from ME2. I didn't much care for them turning Shepard into a Cerberus apologist when talking to the Virmire Survivor on Horizon simply so they could add those other 9 new characters (Miranda, Jacob, Jack, Grunt, Mordin, Thane, Samara, Zaeed, Kasumi...Garrus and Tali are excepted since they were in ME1).
Know how I handled it? I sucked it up and got over it..........eventually.
As it turns out, I actually ended up liking a couple of those new characters quite a bit so it all worked out.

Plus, they could hardly make big roles for all 12 ME2 squadmates when they can be killed in various combinations.
Bioware have acknowledged they trapped themselves in a narrative corner with the ME2 suicide mission ('it seemed like a good idea at the time') and I'm sure they're as aware as anyone that people want their old squadmates back.
But it's not going to happen. They'll all be in there at some point, but people just need to get used to the fact that they can't possibly have huge roles.

You're right, you don't know much about him, but those of us who read the leaked script have a pretty fair idea:
He's not an idiot. He's a lot deeper than his generic footballer looks may look; and his sarcasm and habit of giving people funny nicknames makes him even more endearing. He's a vast improvement over the other military type we had in ME2, Jacob. *Shudder*
As for bringing him in to the main cast and not somone from ME2; its tough, but it makes sense:

And because of this, Bioware has tried to emulate ME1 for new players; by bringing back Liara, Tali, Garrus, and even the VS as core party members, and basically sidestepping much of what happened in ME2, by resurrecting many things from ME1 (Feros, the Cipher, the Rachni, the Geth, etc.)
That last thing by the way, is something I very much appreciate. ME2 was really just a character piece, and cared little for anything that happened in ME1's story, so I'm very happy that they're making ME1 matter again.
So yes, its unfortunate that ME2's squad is being broken up over the course of ME3, but they do still play significant roles.

With all the different characters and their fans someone decided there would not be enough resources to support this niche + this niche + that niche, so they trimmed the roster down. It seems the characters may be declining in a cliched and predictable manner however, which is terrible and unfortunate. Hopefully the game will dispel such impressions

I may not like Vega but i can understand Bioware decision to add him for new players.
Personally I have a much bigger issue with the broken squadmate system than with him.
I'll be criticising them for that no matter what while i'll judge the level of content of the temps on a case by case basis.

I don't see any sense of adding a new squadmate, either.
I don't know Vega, so I will hold my criticism back, but it's a fact that he takes a place of some character we would like to see a return of.
I just hope the left-out squadmates (ME2-introduced characters) will have some interesting sideline that you can interact with.

Jack's role as of the leak seems rather poor. I'm not very impressed with much of the temp stories especially my own favourite Miranda. Hopefully they've gone back them all and put more effort into their stories since the leak.

The leak was months out of date when it was leaked - and there was a bunch of dialogue missing even then.
Based on tweets by Bioware's writers and editors (Karin and Patrick Weekes especially) they were still writing for most of the characters in December.
But I wouldn't accuse them of not putting effort into the stories just because you don't like the direction they went with your favourite characters.

I'm sure Vega will be fine. The only alternative to not introducing new squadmates is putting more plot focus on Liara (already overburdened), the VS & Joker. You're only guaranteed two survivors of the SM, and you can't make heavy use of them because you don't know who they are (or else you'd end up with some weird scenario with Zaeed leading the Quarian Fleet or something).
