I must say I dislike how people assume Vega is dull based upon his appearance.

Plus, they could hardly make big roles for all 12 ME2 squadmates when they can be killed in various combinations. 

Bioware have acknowledged they trapped themselves in a narrative corner with the ME2 suicide mission ('it seemed like a good idea at the time') and I'm sure they're as aware as anyone that people want their old squadmates back. 

But it's not going to happen. They'll all be in there at some point, but people just need to get used to the fact that they can't possibly have huge roles. 

That's what you get when you don't pre-plan a lot of this stuff.  A fly-by-the-seat-of-your-pants approach is almost always going to cause more trouble than it's worth.  Hopefully a lesson will be learned ....

It's a technique used not only in games, but in movies and TV as well. By bringing in a new character, you're essentially reintroducing and reestablishing your current characters, situations, etc. It helps newbies understand who and what's going on, while keeping things fresh for people who know all of that. Sometimes, it works for the better. Sometimes, not.

They are being consistent then.

But in all seriousness, the main running theme of Jack's character is her trying to find a place where she belongs. The outlaw colony, the cult, some friends, gangs, even alongside Shepard and his suicide squad. It's just that she's been hurt so many times that she's reluctant to try again and get close to people. I think it makes sense that she is where she is ME3.

People taste with their eyes before they do with their mouths. I'm more than willing to get to know characters. I initially hated Jack, and then found myself to actually like her once I got past the "**** the world" dialogue later in the game.

So long as he's not the new Jacob, then I'm curious. (I apologize to Jacob fans, I just can't stand the guy)

It's not surprising. I was arguing for a long time now that the ME2 characters would get a reduced role since they could be killed off.:innocent:

You're right, you don't know much about him, but those of us who read the leaked script have a pretty fair idea:

He's not an idiot. He's a lot deeper than his generic footballer looks may look; and his sarcasm and habit of giving people funny nicknames makes him even more endearing. He's a vast improvement over the other military type we had in ME2, Jacob. *Shudder*

As for bringing him in to the main cast and not somone from ME2; its tough, but it makes sense:

Unfortunately, not everyone who will play ME3 has played ME1 or ME2, a sickening truth that I may never get over, but its there. And because of this, Bioware has tried to emulate ME1 for new players; by bringing back Liara, Tali, Garrus, and even the VS as core party members, and basically sidestepping much of what happened in ME2, by resurrecting many things from ME1 (Feros, the Cipher, the Rachni, the Geth, etc.)

That last thing by the way, is something I very much appreciate. ME2 was really just a character piece, and cared little for anything that happened in ME1's story, so I'm very happy that they're making ME1 matter again.

So yes, its unfortunate that ME2's squad is being broken up over the course of ME3, but they do still play significant roles.

Mordin and his cure for the genophage, Grunt and his battle with the Rachni, Thane slowly dying in the hospital, Jack being a teacher at Grissom Academy, and many more.

So don't hate Vega, and if you do, hate him because he genuinely doesn't interest you (Though that seems like it will be difficult, as I find him to be rather charming... If a little rough around the edges.) and not because he's a main party member, and Jack isn't.

And I doubt he'll be pushed into the background; the game's not even out yet and he already has a devoted thread on this board. That, and as I've said, from what I have seen/read, he's a far better character than we all thought in the beginning.

Godamn it man! When you said spoilers I thought you meant spoilers for ME2 not for ME3. THANKS A LOT.

Seriously though, COD:MW2 and beyond is complete and utter manure, MW1 was good.

I'd rather have some other previously showcased character as a permanent companion rather than they making a completely new one simply because new players should have a "tutorial" to the lore and story. Oh well, too late now.

I just feel cheated that we only got Legion for about 10 minutes (it felt like) and now it doesn't seem like we get him at all.

And I want nothing to do with the VS. They could burn in a fire for all I care after Horizon. (I hope they have some splainin to do)

As much as I don't really like the VS, after Cerberus predictably bites you in the ass in ME3, they can say I told you so, reinforcing what they said on Horizon.

The way the described him he's like the vault dweller of space he's not going to know much which I'm not sure how thats possible with the extranet maybe he was on a farm or compound and had no desire to learn about aliens but beyond that I'll hold my opinions of him since like OP says we don't know him. I know he has potential to be a s/s candidate because of his introduction alone and he looks really bad.

Personally I don't mind him being part of the crew I've got more people I'm set on not being allowed on my ship if they really are candidates such as: the batarian, the prothean, Miranda, and Conrad. All I really want is my team dextro FT permanent crewmates as quickly as possible on my ship if I've got those two on board I can put up with a lot of WTF BW crewmen choices.

You're on a section of the forums which is populated by a large number of people who judge characters solely by how well of a dry-humping session err.... "romance", they provide. How were you expecting posters here to judge him?
