Question:  I already explored the elvin ruins en route to the Lady of the Forest and Zathrian and came across the phylactery with the character inside.   I didn't know that this was how you unlocked the Arcane Warrior spec. and so blew it.  I'm back (because my level wasn't high enough to defeat Zathrian) and I tried it again, but now my only choices are to "leave it alone" or "touch it" and then a revenant appears and kicks my ass.

Is there any way of reinitiating the conversation with the enclosed being without reverting to a save many, many hours ago?  Thanks in advance.

There are two phylacteries in the elven ruins. One is for the trapped arcane warrior, another one is a 'black vial', AKA a Revenant fight. When you say you blew it, what did you do with the trapped spirit?

To be honest, I don't remember. Hmm. I wonder if I'm in the black vial room and not the trapped warrior room???

The phylactery for unlocking AW is on the second floor of the elven ruins. I don't recall coming across a black vial room, but there are a lot of Revenat-spawning phylacteries around the game, perhaps you are messing with the wrong one.

But, a glimmer of hope... if you have botched your chance to get it... just reload an old save game, do it right (unlock the specializations), then reload your current save game and take the specializations.

That seems most likely. If you didn't do anything to the trapped spirit, his bottle should still be there.

Wiki has a map, maybe that'll help.

Oh, also, the AW phylactery has an altar about 2 feet away.

Thanks everyone. I'll take your suggestions. I think I overshot the room and I'll try reloading the old game and bringing it up to date...didn't realize you could do that.

I have also a problem with unlocking the talent. I have found the phylactery, did the dialogue with the spirit and there was also the cutscene with the altar, but I can't see the talent in my character/skill sheet. Did I forget something?

BTW. I have finished the Nature of the Beast quest.

All you unlock is the ability to put a specialization point into Arcane Warrior if you have one to spend. You don't automatically become an Arcane Warrior by unlocking it.

In addition to what Gaidren said you won't see it on your main char sheet unless they are a mage. If your main is not a mage you'll need to get Morrigan or Wynn in your party and check it from there. If they don't have a point to spend it will be greyed out but waving over it will tell you if it's unlocked or not.

And some folks have alluded to this, but just so its clear -- when you unlock a specialization, it's unlocked for your whole account. That's why you can just do it on an earlier save; once you unlock it it will be open for all mages (PCs and Wynne/Morrigan) you make on this account.
