Oh man, how I miss those days where you invited friends over to play video games while sitting on the couch.

That was the big difference between gaming on PC or a console. Now with online passes, DRM, DLC and all these new fads. Deciding your platform of choice is based on which one punishes you less than picking the most enjoyable one. I hate modern gaming.

Basically this.

Technology has given way to a decline in what used to be awesome social experiences.   Playing Mass Effect in the same room with friends would be great.

I still have those nights with my college bros. THey all come over to my orm every Saturday night with 6 packs of Amp and Rockstar, and we have 4 xbox 360's hooked up where we jam out to CoD, Boderlands, GoW, and Halo.

I can understand you want for ME, it's a great franchise. But it was a single player game, and they just added multi, so they're taking baby steps, or so I'm assuming.

Maybe they'll release a more Multi-centric ME game in the future, because they said while Sheppard's story was over, the Mass Effect Universe will still carry on.

Because it was primarily One player, I understand the initial aversion to Multiplayer before the 1 Player emphasis is finished, but because those one player experiences are awesome, I'd believe that Bioware can do them right in a multiplayer environment which is why I'd still love to do that with friends, but without having to connect to the internet just to do it.

I ignored StarCraft II's multiplayer because it had no LAN support, I feel strongly enough about that I'd go the same way with Mass Effect. :(

Re: Online Pass, I understand why they implement it.  Honestly, I wouldn't care if needed that Pass to unlock an offline version even though that would be silly.  I just don't trust having to rely solely on EA Server access just to do what has been commonplace in multiplayer gaming for a very long time.

They're not going to do anything which would devalue the online passes which they're using to discourage second hand sales.

Well, they can keep their multiplayer locked behind the pass, but I'd still like to have some bots to fill in offline when EA's servers go down (which they do with alarming regularity).

Enforcer, take your bro's and your LAN computers, go buy Age of Empires 2. Each copy is worth like 10$ at Walmart, and you can support 2-3 people per game with one disk. Best thing you'll ever do.

Either that, or go pick up the original Homeworld.

Good advice.  If my gaming weren't so console-centric these days I'd probably do that. ;)

Much joy would this bring!

At this stage in development, is it even possible to implement a seemingly huge change before the game wraps (which I assume would happen in about 2 weeks)?

If it is helpful, I can start adding names to the first post if people sincerely want some form of local MP. I know petitions don't mean a hill of beans on the internet, but I'm willing to continue monitoring this if people are willing to at least speak up on the matter.

@stonbow, Hopes would be for a Game of the Year-esque update or patch if it is too late.

No - but it could open up dialogue about a patch or even DLC.

Although - if its popular enough - I'm sure the community will find a way to work around requiring the internet so you can drag your computers to your mates rumpus room in woop-woop and frag to your hearts content.

I would be great if offline co-op is included with a patch/DLC later on. I'm not to keen on the multiplayer, but BioWare has at least convinced me it's totally seperate from singleplayer, so I will give it a try.

My biggest concern is that multiplayer online will probably be dead after a few months*, so offline multiplayer would be a great solution. And let's not forget those without Xbox Live Gold.

*Not saying it won't be any good or fun, but this happens to every game with 'tacked on' multiplayer.

@Forsythia, valid point. Paying for the opportunity to play online via an online service isn't enough anymore but paying for an online service to play and paying for the game to play. lol

But to be honest, that is obviously not BioWare's fault. I still want offline multiplayer, though. ;)

Funny... i still have buddies come over and we play games ALL the time. Sure some we can only do online, which I get considering the resources some games take up, but you never get too old for Double Dragon my friends.... NEVER. Or Final Fight or Streets of Rage or my personal favorite, PS2- Urban Reign. (Namco REALLY needs to make a sequel...)

You can add my name to the list too. Although I think the chances are slim, mostly for the reasons given. I am kind of torn about what to hope for for multiplayer. Part of me, the part that loves Mass Effect, hopes that it is fun, enjoyable, and has a lot of players. However, another part of me hopes that the multiplayer becomes like Bioshock 2. An unplayable, desolate place after about 2 months that causes the developers to decide that maybe the money could be better spent elsewhere. Of course, the publishers may make them shoehorn it in anyways, but at least they made an effort.

Before the flame wars start, I don't want to turn this into a debate about the merits of multiplayer (or lack-there-of). I just wish to point out that having splitscreen/LAN support would prevent the multiplayer from becoming unplayable as Bioshock 2 has become, should the unfortunate occur. At least with another option, you could always get a friend to help you. Just some thoughts to consider.

@Forsythia, Agreed that is definitely an industry trend. Either A) Bioware has to answer to publisher decree, or B ) Is what part of their intent. At the end of the day, it'd be nice not to have consumers short handed on a account certain trends.

@dcal, I agree with ya there. I know I would have been 100% on board with MP after ME3, but to have it too soon in an infant form is troublesome. Want success for it, but not at expense of features. MvC3 shortchanged core features and then caused an uproar since a standard featured edition released hot on its heels.

FPS / Shooters have a different development hurdle for sure compared to their Fighting game, Scroller, Party game brethren. Those games still function well in offline formats when titles like this require more screen space. :(

PS: names added. :) Hey, if Tali fans can voice ideas, no reason why we can't XD

I'm definitely on for some couch multi player. It'd be darn hype to play with friends around me =) When I played ME3 multi player at Gamex, that was exactly how I played it. I had a friend next to me. It was glorious =) Would love to be able to relive that in the retail version without having him to get a tv and his xbox over here.

I didn't think of that. If they had local multiplayer at the conventions, then a large majority of the code must already be there! Maybe there is a ray of hope of couch multiplayer.

At the convention was it split screen, or was it multiple systems & screens setup for multiplayer?

I would love splitscreen/LAN play for multiplayer, for PC or 360. I know it's not coming with release, but if BioWare decides to implement it in a future patch, that would be great.

Anyone who was lucky enough to have a convention near them happen to remember if the multiplayer was split screen, LAN, or all separate?

An offline / LAN / Split-screen Multiplayer feature would be great for future gaming experience.
I know from experience that after years of gaming you always go back to those few great titles to play with your friends in multiplayer. Only that is made possible by providing LAN Multiplayer because honestly most online multiplayer options do not survive more than five years.
I want to be able to come back to ME3 Multiplayer whenever I feel like it and not worry about any online functionality being shut down.
Plus it might be old school but me and my friends still come together for some good old LAN sessions without any mentionable internet connection around. We would love to play ME3 then, too.

Multiplay is only available online.

I'm aware of that, so unless there is any intention of adding otherwise, Bioware is not getting anymore of my money to support that format.  :police:

Perhaps you'd be kind enough to relay a legit fan concern instead of trolling please, Chris.

Trolling? Seriously?:?
