Yeah didn't think so, there's not even a slim chance, the days are over where games like Starcraft offered a "LAN Install" that would allow you to play together on LAN with only one bought game (and only play with THAT SPECIFIC CD). Its all about the bottom line, and the (supposed) massive loss due to piracy... oh and now EA wants to push Origins, because freeloading their DLC on Steam was blocked...

I'll play online anyway but it would be nice to be able to play with my brother in the same room.

I live in a rural area where the only form of internet access is terrible dial-up, so I was disappointed to find out that we could only play the new MP mode online.
I loved the fact that Epic made GOW2 and 3 MP playable offline with bots, so that people who cant play online, or those that don't like to play online, can still get the MP experience and have some fun.
It would be great if BioWare did this, but unfortunately I don't think they can this late in development, oh well, maybe they can do something in the future.

I guarantee you if offline MP would ever be implemented, the very same whiners would come and complain about bad graphics, in the "Skyrim era".

lets see, would they add a function that would make a lot of people happy that want to play the game with a friend on their LAN while EA is breathing words down their neck like: "encourages piracy" "encourages not using Origin"

This following thought is simple, but challenging to implement. Without people to buy games, games don't make money, if games don't make money, developers either have to change the way they make games so people will buy them or quit making games. Simple economics.
The video game industry is rapidly becoming more and more about economics than sales for creativity. I know there are legit concerns about things like piracy, but more and more consumers are being impacted by trends, and the only way for these trends to change are for gamers to collectively back up the fact that 'they've had enough'. In the end we're paying for unfinished products and allowing them to get away with it. The change is up to us if the developers aren't willing to do change it.
Also the fact that bungie released a multiplayer only disc for Halo 3 disc indicated that supporting this feature is highly possible. There's no technological excuse for not making it happen on so many levels. It all boils down to PR / Politics / Business and we the consumer are being cheated. When I buy a car, it isn't missing a steering wheel. When I buy a book, it isn't missing the last 20 pages. When I play multiplayer I shouldn't be missing a magic box to make it work!
I apologize for being political, but I don't want to be cheated out of something I'd prefer to play especially if I'm already paying for it.

No Online Pass on account of there not being 'competitive' multiplayer and wanting to limit 'barriers to entry'
Hmmmm, I guess they'd rather have a barrier to entry for Mass Effect, but not other titles.

Yeah, but the game industry is getting the habit of blaming lack of sales to piracy, so meh.The Enforcer OS wrote...

I have a very nice entertainment system at home and often invite friends over for split screen co-op events. It's a great bonding experience on a personal level, but also makes us closer to the games as well.
I mean, Gears of War has couch co-op, and they still sell more copies than Mass Effect. It's not going to hurt sales if the game and multiplayer events are actually good.
I know that you (Bioware) are probably pressing the gold master right now, but please reconsider and add local / couch co-op. It is a gross oversight that it isn't a feature. I have some friends that have never played Mass Effect before and are hesitant to buy a Bioware game, but I know I could get them to buy the game if I could just invite them over and kill some reaper-bots with them first.
Hell, I got five people to buy EDF: Insect Armageddon because the couch co-op was fun and they wanted to play more at home and online. If that many people are willing to buy a mediocre shooter because of their experience in local co-op, I'm pretty sure they'd jump at Mass Effect 3 after a local co-op session.

The whole point of shoe-horning co-op into ME3 was to encourage everyone to buy their own new copy, so anything that would encourage >1 person playing per copy is a no-go.
EA policy, probably.

Also I'd like to add that this kind of "protection" I feel makes people more likely to pirate as they don't want to pay for the extra copies just to play with friends and family. I was seriously tempted to do so myself.

Just the fact that its impossible to achieve the best of endings without the Galaxy at War feature and that my ME1 and 2 saves come from an offline profile has me sllightly irked. Besides the multiplayer is pretty freaking sweet and I would like to have the ability to play locally with my friends and family. Every other big title out there be it Gears, Halo, COD, etc has this feature why was it chopped from the design block for ME3?
