Yes, and it was severely lacking in the sort of exposition that fleshes out a character, whether shown or given directly and crammed with extra lore exlanation baggage, much of which actually was a poor presentation of the lore to begin with.dreman9999 wrote...
You did just read this book right?Lord Aesir wrote...
More of the exposition that matters. Otherwise we're treated to a bewildering barrage of character action without much reason.dreman9999 wrote...
You mean after the massive blocks of over the top exposition he did in the book already.....You want him to do more?Lord Aesir wrote...
That might have been fine if Dietz had noted such but he didn't. He just carried on as if we had long known all these characters as they are now.izmirtheastarach wrote...

Yes, it is. Hendel becomes her private tutor at the end of Ascension and teaches her to deal with her Autisum off scene.
How is that different?
Also she's gone years without being subjected to crazy Cerberus medical treatments, which might have either cause or certainly agravated her Autistic condition.
So did I... which really kind of makes this more depressingdidymos1120 wrote...

I honestly felt that the beginning was missing a lot to the point where it cannot be the final version.
You wish. The publisher is the one putting this out as a teaser. It ain't changin' now.

Part of me knows this. Well here is another novel I may end up ignoring completely. When I saw Kai Leng in it I was hoping we would get more insight into his character. Instead we got "That made him a extremist and also a racist. Leng was okay with that." well at first that made me laugh a bit at how lazy it sounded. Then it wen to Kai Leng being a emotionless robot around TIM which was rather boring.
I swear its like Dietz just said **** it and started writing a first draft and just decided he was done.

Haha, that's what I was thinking it felt like - a first draft with all of the major pieces in play, but an editor hasn't been through it to make sure everything logically fits.

Especially the Level 1-3 stuff. I think he just stopped at L3 biotics when looking at the lore and started to put his own spin on it. It really needs a editor.

I kinda hope this excert is fake because noting of this quality, or utter lack thereof, should be published.

Thing is, the previous novels have been much better if not beacons of writing quality. As a studio that prides itself on writing most of the time, I would expect more concern over this sort of thing.izmirtheastarach wrote...

In my experience, this is the general level of quality you see with this kind of work. My wife bought me the one of the Assasin's Creed novels, I made her take it back. Terrible quality of writing. Same here. Not quite as bad, but not really worth my time.

Which brings up the question, what is he doing here anyway?izmirtheastarach wrote...

Oh, I'm not arguing that at all. I have read all three of Drew's novels multiple times. They are pretty decent. But he's an actual talent. wheras Deitz is just a crappy contract writer.

Ugh, that was just awful. Karpyshyn may not be the best writer ever, but at least his characters have depth and he doesn't overdo the exposition. And his Gillian in Ascension was awesome. Dietz doesn't do her character justice, nor any of the other characters. If he kills Gillian, Hendel or Nick off I'm gonna be REAL mad.
And off topic, but can anyone who has read the DA novels by Gaider tell me if the writing in them is any better or worse than the ME novels? Even if they are just on par with Rev/Asc/Retri then I should still enjoy them.

It has been awhile but I enjoyed them as much as the ME novels. The writing is as good but starts out a little worse and gets better as he goes on. The latest, Asunder, is his best yet in terms of both storyline and writing quality, I'd say it was better than any of the Me novels.Golden-Rose wrote...

I will not judge the entire book from this little exerpt but it's clear to me Dietz is a HUGE downgrade from Karphshyn...their styles are different and the atmosphere of this book is not the same from the last three.
My fanboyism will force me to read the book (I really want to know the end of the Kahlee Sanders saga) but it will be hard.
