If I want to know the story I'll just skim the Mass Effect Wiki a few days after the novel releases.

Same here.  I have homework to do, forums to spam, and people to annoy.  I've no time for spinoff novels.

A passage on page 15 suggests the existence of a current Batarian embassy on the Citadel. I could be misremembering, but didn't the Batarians close their embassy some 20 years before the events of ME1?

Yeah, after the Council sided with the Alliance on a colonization rights dispute.

They are banned from Citadel space from what I'm aware of. I know they had an ambassidor there to make peace in ME1's timeline, but that same ambassidor tried to release a plague on the Citadel (until stopped by Jacob).

Shepard's actions could have caused the Council to give the batarians an embassy to calm their asses down before they start glassing planets.

That looks good, but would Kai Leng be allowed on the Batarian homeworld for a lovely auction in the prologue if Arrival had occurred?

"A roly-poly volus was ensconced behind a messy desk."

That's one way of describing the volus... *snort*

There's also a significant timeline disparity. Gillian was 12 during ME: Ascension, which happened shortly after the events of ME in 2183. Page 32 of the excerpt says six years have passed since then, which would mean Deception happens in 2189, three years after ME3 has been confirmed to occur.

Well I should really bother to read this book before starting to hate on it. I can deal with him describing asaris as "Asexual" if the content of the book proves to be interesting.

Or maybe good is a more proper word here.

this, coupled with the exerpt above with the 'anderson' typo makes me wonder if this wasn't posted from a rough edit....

the me wiki has deception happening 3 years after ascesion in 2186...

Gillian was born on a colony after her father triggered an eezo accident there in 2170, hence why she's biotic. That means that at the time of Ascension in 2183, she can be no older than 12 or 13 years. The excerpt says six years have passed since Hendel Mitra met Gillian at age 12, so therefore in Deception she's 18 and the story happens in 2189.
