He said he represented humanity in Council.

So question is, as an  councilor or councilor's adviser?

Either of those are true for all playthrough's.

It says he was "the Alliance’s representative to the Citadel Council"

Yeah, but that doesn't say he was a Councilor.

He actually doesn't ever use the term "Councilor" at all, which is a mistake in itself.  It's always "Council member" or "[insert species here] member".  Kind of like how in The Room, it's always "my future wife" instead of just "fiancee". Only not hilarious.

Theory, remember when Shepard got drunk on radioactive Krogan booze at that Citadel bar, this what they dreamed about before waking up in the restroom.

Shepard is dreaming about underage girls and boys running around on the Citadel and Kai Leng interrupting auctions on the batarian homeworld?

I think that booze somehow melted the implants that keeps Shepard's skull intact.

MASS EFFECT: REPULSION
Jeff O'Connor

As you know, Admiral Anderson once held the rank of Spectre for almost twenty years. While he admired the asari gracefully gliding on their mass effect fields in the middle of the President, the most luxurious hotel in the pineapple-shaped Citadel, the immaculate Kahlee Vega smiled.

"As you know, I'm beautiful," Vega commented as she Force Pushed the argumentative Nick with her Level 9001 biotics. It was then that the scientist discovered the existence of the Reapers via telepathy.

Leng came racing around a corner, air-dropped by The Illusive Man himself. Although his legs were in tremendous pain, he managed to backflip off of the Citadel Spire, tallest building in the pear-shaped embassy and home to the Proconsul. "As you know, I'm related to Altair."

"As you know, Gillian is 47," chimed in Anderson (David).

I... I think I need to change underpants.

Even Drew did that f*ck up.

He made Udina a Councilor by canon.

That was a deliberate choice. Agree or disagree, it wasn't a @#$%-up.

I think the real point is that Dietz threw a lot out the window.

To be fair, he didn't know ME lore too well when he was hired and after writing Deception he probably missed few facts and misunderstood others.

And since Bioware devs are too busy with ME3, they couldn't corrected him or just skimmed through his book for plot points they wanted and didn't noticed errors, since they are busy with ME3 again.

Many still called it a f*ck up.

Are all Dietz's novels this awful? I can't imagine someone this horrid gets regularly published.

Lore mistakes aside, this is just a mess. An absolute casserole of nonsense.

I don't know, but I was worried as soon as I read the fan response to his Halo novel. I remained cautious going into this and I'm glad I did. Tempered my expectations down to appropriate levels.

I think people should tweet the writing team all casual-like:

"Sooooooo....Deception. What do you all think of it? You've read it, right?"

I should just throw away my studies for the university and become a writer instead. Seems incredibly easy.

Yeah, one of the things I may pursue is scriptwriting and novel-writing. This fills me with a strange mixture of hope and dread, this excerpt.

So is Captain Anderson (whatever you want to call him now) really going to look like that? Might just be me but he looks waaay differenct than either ME1 or 2.

Cover artists often take some fairly extreme liberties. That said, Anderson definitely received some model modifications for ME3. Look no further than the plethora of Anderson screenshots available on the internet.

It isn't quite as extreme in-game as it appears in the artwork, though.

I'm kinda curious if this will actually be mentioned in game like Ascension was.

I have a feeling Gillian's age isn't a mistake but a deliberate retcon which tbh I wouldn't have an issue with by itself if proven correct. It's all the other obvious lore mistakes that just make me roll my eyes. Going to have to hold my nose while I read this.

Even though the public had been forced to leave the amphitheater dozens of the Citadel’s employees were still present.

Not surprised "the public" was forced to leave, considering they shouldn't have even been there in the first place:

Well considering that the story will apparently at least partially focus on Gillian, which has to be deliberate I can't imagine that they would want a pre-teen running around doing all the shennanigans that will undoubtedly be occuring.  Sure she took care of a few in the book before last but that was mostly a one off thing.  This is quite common in a lot of fiction where they want to tell the story about a child related to main characters but would otherwise have to wait X years for it to reasonably occur.  So they just retcon the childs age.  It's just a hunch I could be wrong.

Nope.  If you brag to Avina that you got an invite, she'll even be sure to tell you how lucky you are.

These were my thoughts exactly. Image IPB I'm writing my first novel, and after reading some of Deception... well, I hate to say something that might insult someone's work, but even the sentence structure in my rough draft was a lot better than this. The things I give so much attention to, like word flow and correct details, don't seem to be a big focus here.

Of course, I'll still read Deception, but for information only. Kai Leng and TIM are two of my favorite characters.

Well, they've not hesitated to have children have awful things happen to them in the games (e.g. Talitha's story, the kids on Pragia) and novels so far, and Gillian squashed a guy with a forklift in Ascension, when she was only twelve.  And she'd be sixteen if Dietz had followed the timeline. Plenty of characters that age doing crazy stuff in all sorts of shows, films, novels, etc.

A better summary of Deception so far would be:
