Occasionally, he clusmisly inserts exposition in parentheses.  For instance:

"Citadel Security Services (C- Sec)"

Is the phrase "also known as C-sec" a problem? Hooboy. What a writer.

I guess it was far too difficult to just search certain things on the wiki page or perhaps ask someone who knows better.

Then again, Dietz wouldn't be a complete hack that way.

This is what is so frustrating. The info is freely available. He wouldn't even need to play the games.

It's almost as if he thought , he could (attempt) copy Drew Karpyshyn style and make an even worse novel than the halo one.

After reading this amazing forum (and Jeff's incredibleness), it seems like Dietz pulled a Pirates of the Carribean: On Stranger Tides and a Seasons 6-8 of The Office.

I'm disappointed that it fails so badly and am sad that I won't have a good Mass Effect fix before ME3, but I'll at least read the wiki for the basic story. I may read it just to laugh at the sheer imbecility of it though :)

So I'm not one to judge but um Bioware, how the hell did this pass whatever inspection you give novels?

Well, they've not hesitated to have children have awful things happen to them in the games (e.g. Talitha's story, the kids on Pragia) and novels so far, and Gillian squashed a guy with a forklift in Ascension, when she was only twelve.  And she'd be sixteen if Dietz had followed the timeline. Plenty of characters that age doing crazy stuff in all sorts of shows, films, novels, etc.

Yep. She kills multiple Cerberus Commandos at age 12. But having her do it at age 16 would be bad somehow?

I am so hyped for this book. I read the prologue but no further. I am waitng for the book to arrive (probably 4 days later than release in Germany) to read it all at once.

Seriously, can't wait! I am almost more excited for this than for ME3.

I'm glad that I saved the money for the art book.

Don't be. It'll only lead to disappointment.

Further proof that people don't read threads before posting.

That was needed to be proven?

So wait, the human Council member -- Udina -- could not be lobbied to side with those who are trying to convince the Council of the Reapers' existence?

...LOL.

I'd love to know.  Tweeted that question at Casey and Mac, along with a link to this thread.  Not really expecting a response though.

There is logical explanation.

Anderson gave a middle finger to Udina with this.

I like how the salarian Councilor openly regarded the Reapers as existing entities in front of dozens of Citadel Tower employees.

Can the Reapers be involved in something if they don't exist? I guess so.

Try to fire his ass.

Besides, I think at this point that more and more people would start to belive in Reaper existance.

I mean, look at Alliance.

Start of ME2?
F*ck you, Reapers aren't real.

Around Arrival?
Huh, maybe we should reconsider Reaper existence.

Dietz didn't capitalize Prothean. Yes, all other races weren't capitalized, but Prothean wasn't as well. Who was in charge of proof reading this?? Did BioWare have any involvement at all? This just seems like a big joke. I'm disappointed that BioWare would hand out their property so carelessly.

At first it was funny but now this is just stupid.

I do not understand. Any human vessel in Batarian space is considered hostile. Batarian are very careful with their population and strangers and control everything in their space.

And Leng, a human, was quietly on Karshan to buy an object, right ? I didn't read that wrong ?

Well ACTUALLY... I think it makes sense by way of certain things mentioned in a little something that was leaked about ME3...

Yep, strolling about (well, limping) like he owned the place...when the only way he should have been there is if he were himself owned by a batarian.  Also, there's an auction house full of non-batarians.

What's wrong with that one?

Batarian Hegemony is slaver totalitarian state, not communist totalitarian state.

There are rich aholes even there.

Also, Batarians ain't only slavers.
And you don't need to be a slaver to be successful in slaver totalitarian state.

You just need to be on good terms with those in charge.
Preferably lot of bribes.

lol. Okay, in this case, I won't consider these events as serious. I'll forget this book and I won't read it.

I read only a few pages, but I can not forgive such an error, when we know that the only way a human or many strangers are present in Karshan, Batarian homeworld is as slaves, indeed. Or at the very least they would spy any stranger carefully, eveyday, every hour, every minute.

Any writer who has followed mass effect could not have committed such an error. it is impossible that a human can be free to do what he wants in Karshan. I think the author is not really familiar with the Mass Effect universe.

You're in Karshan, that isn't any small colony, that is their homeworld within their space closed.

The Batarians cut themself from the outside. Their space is totally enclosed, they want complete control over their populations and cut all sources of outside influence.

Having rich foreigners within the territory is nonsense, since they can deliver another message than their propaganda, and those can propagate the ideals harmful to their caste system. What they do not want.

What I read, seemed to be in a liberal system, with money and If there were auction, they wouldn't let it to happen in Karshan, their Homeworld. the batarians in their space are paranoid and are afraid of spies everywhere.
