True, Gillian could have saved the whole goddamned Migrant Fleet and the quarians would have still been reluctant to give her a ship - Dietz just doesn't know what the hell he's writing.
I guess Shepard should have been awarded the Alarei after he cleansed it of Geth. Because those are the rules, right Mr. Dietz?

There's a strict 'one Cerberus officer per awarded ship' rule, as I understand it.

As you know, Eden Prime is inhabited by sentient Gasbags.

"Watch out for those gasbags!" Anderson barked an order as the Alliance soldiers entered the fray. (Gasbags were commonly found throughout the Migrant Fleet, their ship-giving benevolence known throughout the galaxy. As you know, they're quarians.)

CODEX : "The Tantalus Drive Core is the most notable feature of the SR1 Normandy...and every goddamn ship out there".
The Tantalus Drive Core, highly experimental aboard the Alliance Normandy SR1, has been standard issue in Citadel Space and far beyond for dozens if not hundreds of years. First created in 1492 by the turian architect Kriztof Kolumbuz, its design features a circumnavigating mass effect field which safely 'glides' a ship through multiple galaxies in the blink of an eye.

We are, And you know what's funny/tragic?
You don't release a ME book in hoping to please a casual audience you release it in the hope that fans/nerds pick it up since they are far more likely to buy a book related to whatever their fandom is than any casual consumer, With this in mind this books failure is complete..utterly.

Yep. Casual fans don't read books like this to begin with. So bizarre. And by releasing this excerpt, Del Ray has sort of torpedoed their own product.

You might release a Dietz book in the hope that it'll attract Halo/Star Wars/Star Craft/Resistance fans to the series.

I have trouble believing that those fans are acutally his fans though. The reaction to some of the work you list there has also been less then positive.

It's such a shame, because what totally destroyed any chance of me picking it up was Dietz's sloppy (and mostly ignorant) handling of the setting, the characters and the lore.
The central plotline could have been amazing by itself. As a Mass Effect fan, though, I'm utterly disappointed that the fiction that I've come to love and respect has been paid so little care and been so drastically misrepresented by Dietz. It's hard enough for me to turn my brain off when I'm watching a movie; I didn't even think it was possible while reading a book.

Great way to put that. Turn off your brain while you are using it directly. lol. One of the best suggestions I've heard is to wait till it goes up on the Wiki and read that. At least the writing will be better.

very strange considering the measures they've taken to ensure that the other printed media fell inline with the storyline of the games and the timelines basically matched that they'd let something like this go.....i did suggest yesterday that i'm of the mind that this excerpt was from a rough draft and hope the printed copy will have been checked by bioware for accuracy...

of course a hole like gillian's age isn't going to break it for me.....i'm playing a scifi rpg, so i'll just go with the fact that she's 16 and leave it at that and read the book
Yay the spiffy argument!
Because it's sci-fi it dosen't have to be cosistant or have a good narrative or any narrative at all.. it's sci-fi it's wierd and just a bunch of fun!
