And not to bash the writing...but this reads like a fanfiction.

Seems to be a lot of errors in this. There's no way this is the final draft.. It has to be work in progress. RIGHT?!

A passage on page 15 suggests the existence of a current Batarian embassy on the Citadel. I could be misremembering, but didn't the Batarians close their embassy some 20 years before the events of ME1?

Shepard's actions could have caused the Council to give the batarians an embassy to calm their asses down before they start glassing planets.

That looks good, but would Kai Leng be allowed on the Batarian homeworld for a lovely auction in the prologue if Arrival had occurred?

Its possible. The Batarian homeworld seems to have different nation states on their actually fighting with each other. Some maybe more friendly to aliens (not too much though) to the point where if bribed they could let a human on the planet.

Hmm, asari Council member. I guess this isn't in the "Human Council" canon.

It better be. I mean, there's no way the writers on the game would miss errors like that. maybe someone could ask Mac Walters on Twitter what's up some of these things.

Not even going to bother. The last preview was enough for me.

If I want to know the story I'll just skim the Mass Effect Wiki a few days after the novel releases.

Good idea.

I'm gonna stop reading, too. The excerpt has a lot of grammatical and lore-related mistakes, not to mention a choppy writing pace.

Some people will probably like it, but eh. It's not my kind of read.

That was... Okay, that was genuinely horrid. Grammar quips a-la "an level" aside, there was some very jagged flow and poor wording in almost every sentence. Not to mention the lore disfigurements... Still gonna brave the book when it comes out, but I'm not expecting any redeeming miracles.

Pretty much. I was trying to be kind about it, though.

they really are whoring out these novels. it seems theres a new novel and comic every other week now. pretty poor if you ask me. there is such a thing as quality over quantity.

The main lore problems I found about it was Gillian's age and the Asari. We know Bioware screws up on ages anyway. Miranda being 35 doesn't make much sense anyway. The rest wasn't really bad at all unless you take some of the retarded ME gameplay as canon.

It wasn't really a bad read but pretty interesting story wise.

So this novel takes place after ME3?! Seriously, I'm so confused right now!

just dont read the books or comics. just ignore them and pretend they don't exist. they always try to retcon the lore, or force a canon storyline (like this whole council fiasco).

its poor writing. simple as that.

There is no human council canon.  Only human led council.  Probably between ME1 and 2 someone pointed out to Udina how it was utterly stupid and a good way to end up like the Krogan.

Though it doesn't sound particularly human led either, and I can't understand why it's the "human council member" rather than "Udina".  Maybe it's too avoid drawing attention to the lack of names for the others, but it's still a odd when Anderson knows Udina pretty well.

But at least the Salarian councillor doesn't think we can afford to dismiss these claims about the "Reapers".  That's progress at least.

Sometimes you need to sit back and shut off your brain, and stuff like this can become somewhat enjoyable.

I just can't ignore Gillian's age! I'm trying to make things fit together inside my head, but it's impossible. I really, REALLY, hope that this is some unfinished draft they put up by mistake.

At least it was less boring than the chapter where some desk jockeys walked to a meeting, then had the meeting.

They actually brought Greyson's body to the Citadel just to show off? Man, they're risking it to be stolen.

Four novels in five years does not equate to 'whoring' them out.
