Link to the Google Books preview?

Maybe there'll be something salvageable in that.

Here.

In the meantime...

Somehow, 22% of all daily deaths on the Citadel are humans. Also, Dietz seems to think Kahlee and Anderson had a relationship back during Revelation. They never did. There was a whole scene about the fact that it wasn't going to happen.

And, oh god: Anderson and Kahlee go undercover as "bona fide members of the Citadel's underworld". They accomplish this by wearing gaudy clothes and hiring a krogan bodyguard and going to a bad neighborhood. Also, there's a batarian living on the Citadel, and this is not treated as unusual.

Goddamn, Kahlee and Anderson only really got together at the end of Retribution, Dietz is just dead wrong on that.

I would imagine there would be batarians who left batarian space on the Citadel, but they would probably be remarked upon. Jeez.

What I don't get is that this is the same author who wrote the Starcraft 2 novels "Heaven's Devils" ... I read this book some time ago (big fan of Starcraft story & characters.. not so much the game heh) and it was a very enjoyable, reasonably well written novel. The quality of the writing was immensely better than what I read in this preview for the new ME book... like 2 different authors entirely... I can't imagine what the heck occurred to make him suddenly write so poorly.

The only thing I can imagine is the starcraft novel had a great couple of editors (as is often the case in any good writing) and this novel had either no editor or was editd by a brain damaged lemming.

Anyone feel like asari stir-fry? Kahlee does. Right after viewing a bunch of bodies in the C-Sec morgue to make sure they weren't Nick.

My only guess is that he was aiming for something that sounded like Karpyshyn, but he didn't have the skill or the knowledge of the universe to make it work.

Hey, at least Barla Von got a mention. Of course, he's now apparently Anderson's old pal. Kahlee knows him too. Also that batarian? He's a smuggler. He even smuggles people. On the Citadel. And hasn't been noticed. Plus his name is "Nodi Banca" which is kinda silly.

The fact that Kai Leng ate some of Anderson's cereal came off more as silly than threatening.

JUST EATING SOME FROSTED FLAKES OVER HERE.

There's now something called the "Biotic Alliance" too. No idea what the hell it's supposed to be. For those keeping track, we now have the asari "Biotic Guild", the not-particularly-underground "Biotic Underground", and the "Biotic Alliance".

I can't decide whether reading this thread makes me happy that I never started reading the series, or sad that now I can't do so without knowing the latest iteration is disappointing.

Nothing like coming home and logging onto BSN to see this excerpt still getting destroyed by the community :)

Anyone ever watch "Garth Marenghi's Darkplace"? Yeah, this is actually a lot like that, except not funny on purpose.

I think it would have been the best scene ever had Anderson and Kahlee come home while Kai Leng was washing the dishes from his breakfast.

Just, I don't even.

Three good books by a talented writer are no undone by a fourth written by a hack.

Yes:

A couple of the gatherings turned ugly when some antibiotic pure breeders turned up and our friends began to throw people around.

Biotics aren't hereditary. Is this some bizarre confusion of the concept of pureblooded Asari? What the...?

At least in Chapter Four he mentions that Gillian and the quarians are keeping an eye on the Cerberus agent, but then again it gives us this gem:

So as the ex-slave pushed his way through the crowd of reporters, clearly intent on leaving the area as quickly as possible, the biotic gave him a gentle "shove." It was similar to a "throw" except less powerful and more focused.

The hell, Dietz? Did you really need all the quotes, as if we couldn't infer what the hell you were talking about? And why would we need this information? WE'VE SEEN WHAT BIOTICS CAN DO, SHOVING SOMEONE IS NOT A SURPRISE.
