Dude him leaving has nothing to do with Mass Effect 3. :/Hamziz Vakarian wrote...

As I understand it, Dietz himself rather slaughtered Halo with his novelization of the game's events. This seems a recurring venture to him. Twice now at the least he's gotten past numerous people and been allowed to do this.
That's my whole point, really: Mass Effect is now HALO to EA, and they are going to treat it as such. Take Jesse Houston - one of the main producers decided to leave on his own terms before the game even hits shelves rather than be let go when the game fails to live up to sales expectations.
I guess what I'm saying is that the horribleness of this book would be funny if it wasn't symptomatic of deeper problems in the company. I assume that being on these forums means that people in this thread care about the series, so I just wanted to point that out.

I've only read one novel by Dietz (Starcraft Heaven's Devils) and it was a decently written and enjoyable book and remained true to the spirit of the characters and story of Starcraft... seeing this excerpt for this current book it's hard to fathom it is the same author.
Then again, Heaven's Devils may have had far better editors and oversight

I had read a while back that you’re actually a gamer, yourself. Is that true? What do you enjoy playing?
I am a gamer and I love HALO, Mass Effect, and Call of Duty to name a few.

I'm calling some degree of pandering on that statement of his... I despise fan fiction but I've glanced at some here and there and sadly those are often more accurate in terms of detail to the setting of Mass Effect than what I read in the excerpt... there's no way someone who played ME1 and ME2 would write some of the absurdity / lore errors that he wrote in his current novel.

What? He's played Mass Effect? Does he have no memory then? Did he somehow forget even the basics of that universe?

Well, you go in to Romeo & Juliet knowing it will end badly, but it's still good. Heck, it's probably better just because you know it will end badly.didymos1120 wrote...
Oh, BTW, you know what's the stupidest thing about this novel? The plot, such as it is, is all about Gillian's quest to kill TIM....who we already know survives just fine. We've even seen in-game footage of him, in which he's no worse for wear. What is the damn point then?
I just compared Dietz to Shakespeare. Somebody shoot me, please.

That's the real problem here. If there is one thing I will absolutely not accept a lack of quality in, it's a book. I've played crappy games and enjoyed them. I've watched crappy movies and had a good time. But if a book is not well written, I don't know any way to enjoy it.
As you know, this is because of my negative attitude.

I think he would still notice that Salarian's eyes don't glow and that Soverign failed with his trap,
