That might be a reference to the fact that (human, as far as we know) biotics sometimes receive electric shocks when touching metal, but I'm probably giving him too much credit, and that makes no sense in this context anyway.

I think you can download a full pdf version of the novel online, so you don't have to do that. I've found a full version. If anyone wants a link, PM me. You guys can see the wreck all for yourself, rather than spoil random bits.
