Dear Mass Effect fans
I have a very annoying problem - items that are meant to be able to be searched are proving difficult to do so! I have a faint orange box (broken along the sides) appearing over searchable objects, doors etc. More often than not, the white and blue boxes appear too, making the object come to life when you press the space bar.
However, there is often a problem with the blue and white box appearing. This means that doors can't be opened, objects can't be inspected - and worst of all, enemies can't be targetted for bio/tech attacks. Very frustrating! Game was bought and downloaded on Steam.
Does anybody know what I'm talking about and can help?
Objects have no highlight - and hence no way of activating them

Becaue you have not provided any details as per the "Read First" thread, we can only guess. What you described sounds like a framerate issue related to either substandard hardware, or incompatable drivers, without the correct info, I couldnt say for sure.

Thank you for your quick reply! Frame rate sounds about right. The blue and white boxes flicker slightly when they're available.
I'll try to get hold of a friend who can help with updating drivers. Not very good at the techy bits...

Bogs was being kind, at best. The greatest percentage of the cases with that symptom are a direct result of ignoring the game requirements, particularly the graphics card minimum.
Video Card = 256 MB (with Pixel Shader 3.0 support). Supported GPU Chips: NVIDIA GeForce 6800 or greater(**); ATI Radeon X1600 Pro or greater. Please note that NVIDIA GeForce G.205, G.210, 310, 7100, 7200, 7300, 7400, 7500, 8100, 8200, 8300, 8400, 9100, 9200, and 9300, also (probably) GT 520/610; ATI Radeon X1300, X1550, HD 2400, 3100, 3200, HD 3450, HD 3470, HD 4200, HD 4250, HD 4350, 4550, and (probably) HD 5450/6370 are below minimum system requirements. Updates to your video and sound card drivers may be required. Intel and S3 video devices are not officially supported in Mass Effect 2.
(**)Two of the Geforce 6800s are worse than the next-lower Geforce game card, the 6600 GT, and should be avoided (6800 SE, 6800 XT).
