From my experience it will get "better and better" (read easier) despite level-scaling by the nature of things. You asked before about Traps/Poisons and right now you are about to face some decisions concerning those. Btw I found it is not necessary to buy any inventory increasing bags past Ostagar (90 slots was sufficient) granted visiting a merchant frequently and selling all "junk" I used to carry around during previous plays was a must. Then again, those frequent visits allow for replenishing supplies (ingredients for traps/poisons/pots) so it was not a waste of time as it might seem.

After selling to Gorim in Denerim I've got 85 G ... wanted to buy lifegiver (I need to regen in stealth or while running) but it's 87 G, did get key to the city though. I have got some loot that might get me 2 G wih gorim so I'll return to Denerim and return to get my hands on that ring.

I'm hesitant to do the provings and the unofficial fights there. I tried the first unofficial fight and basicly.. I couldn't do anything. 4 hits on the mage out of stealth and I''m dead (4 yellow guys is nasty I've a hard time with one atm). I could probably beat them with loads of traps etc but as I recall I get 12 silver per fight and that ring I can't use. For me this sounds like very wrong risk/gains ratio and I think I'll skip for now :D (I must say I doubt it will be easy even at lvl 20 + with full gear)

All guys I have to take on after dialog are hard fights.. I was lucky the white falcons (or whatever first guys the sarge send you after in the pearl) retreated after one was dead because I was going about the next second. And it's nice that sarge is there when they meet you (right away after traveling in the city) and he can't die. (I left most of them hacking on him taking on one of a time (started with the archers that is why they went after him and his men first).

Well gonna buy lifegiver now it's so annoying not to regen when fleeing and in shadows. Without the combat stealth some fights would ahve been impossible but NOW I'll really be able to reset fights with combat stealth after killling one of them :D. (And I need that some encounter on the map with a hurlock alpha and emmisary + hurlocks + genlocks + traps was impossible so far (I mean without excessive use of potions))

Well busy with Sloth now, the tower solo was.. easy, on NM I found it actually much easier than my other plays with parties, nothing is very hard, the rooms before sloth took a few tries but nothing special. Sloth however is ANNOYING to solo. I'm avoiding using potions atm and have a hard time with his first form.. but paying attention (which get's harder after 20 + tries) and just going to mouse and stealth then (lvl 11 so don't ahve stealth 4 myself yet). using Dirty fighting, slam (golem), quake (golem) when he starts to ram (you gotta be fast) and just hitting him in golem or regular form works. also it seems I regenerate somewhat when switching mouse--> char--> golem etce etc (I'm still testing this) the next forms aren't taht hard but that LAST form.. well let me say this.. it's annoying doing all that work to get crushing prison after 2 secs.

Frustration is kicking in and making me sloppy so 'the first form is taking longer.

Ow PS if it's not known: just clicking the golem form sign fast = nearly instant regen (you get + 170 hp when going to golem, it takes a sec to go to that form but nearly instantly you are back. usually when changing you gain a number of HP the same % of the max you have in the new form compared to the old form but if you go to golem and move back right away it seems you get the bonus HP on your regular form again.. anyway switching 2 times to and from fast = total regeneration (on PC this is).

Is your char dwarf, I forgot? Annoyed the hell out of me not being able to "recharge" on lyrium crystals.

I had exactly same problem. After the Ogre form, the fight was not too hard. It uses forms doing certain type damage and/while vulnerable to certain type of damage. Most time golem form was fine, as you said. The last one, however, made me lower difficulty to Easy because I was tired of reloading and saw no way to beat it. Only a day later I replayed it on NM, just for an irrational feeling of .., and got lucky and I say lucky as I cannot call it otherwise. What is your spell resist atm? Just curious.

ow a tip for all form (except the last, and of course getting chain rammed by the ogre = dead as usual, he does that a bit too often too) is in my previous post. Spell resistance.. well no idea where I could've gotten it except a few low % items. for the rest I only know that other ring or necklace or something the spellward.... and I got lifeward and still saving for the next (after the tower (DAMN it's said Uldred is even harder :S) the tower is a nasty part of the game since you can't backtrack to camp)

last time I got crushed pretty fast again. before that I was hitting the arcane horror form hard and was nearly there.. and then he walkign bombed me.

If 10% means 1/10 chance to resist, then it could mean 1/10 less reloads :) But yeah, silly question despite it is possible to get perhaps +20% resist before entering buying runes in Denerim. I would not call Uldred harder as there are (posted) several working strategies on him. Sloth, however, got less attention, and it is in my experience harder fight because I did not find a workaround to what you describe. The Arcane Horror cast its stuff no matter what it seems (is it possible to "interrupt" and prevent casting?) while Uldred can be prevented from casting while not being too heavy hitter. Any potions reducing damage?

edit: just checked (realoded apropriate save) and I have on my char Othkeeper with Electricty damage, and Edge with 4% spell resist and Chance to reduce movement speed runes before the fight  haha.. so much for theory I guess.

I never had any trouble with the Sloth Demon fight with any of my solo chars, which so far have been 2 DW Rogues, 2 Warriors and one Mage. I never even used any potions in that fight, I don't think you can use them in Golem form anyway, which is what I use almost exclusively. Ogre form, I kite around in Golem until my 3 abilities are off cd, then I hit him with them one after another, then I kite more. In between, I use the Lyrium nodes to regen. The other forms, I just keep hitting in golem form and using all 3 abilities as soon as they're off CD. The ogre is still the most difficult, because he can chain-ram you if you allow him to, never letting you get up. You need to keep moving so he can't do that.

Well I can get past the first forms when I don't get chain rammed by the ogre (still about 50% of the time) the rest of the forms I just alternate between ogre, use his abilities) and my char himself (higher damage) but that arcane horror...
Last time, I was stilld own from the blast
wintersgrasp (with lil freeze), crushing prison, spiritblast, walking bomb, spiritblast 3x = dead.

couldn't do a thing.

edit: and now it was down from blast: wintergraps, chain lightning, crushin prison (38 dmg/sec!!), walking bomb. DEAD  in retrospect he did the chain lightning to that other time, takes half my health

You can stun him in golem form and knock him down, he almost never casts, that's why I like that form, it has utility which matters more than damage IMO.

If reducing damage from the Horror could make a difference (can not really tell from the sequence you just posted Aezeal), then ... I see I have Spirit balm or Shiver (+20% cold resist) for example, tough I admit resistances do not have to be an answer. I just dunno any other one *shrugs* Can its casting be interrupted or not say with Dirty Fighting? If so, some damage can be reduced, some healed and some not taken.

edit: wb Timortis and damn you :P

Well moast of the time I can't do anything before I'm dead and I mean that literally, last things I posted where exactly like that and dead in 5 sec all the time down, frozen or crushed.

I already made sure everytime I got there I kill the shade in golem form with slam loaded so IF I get a chance I'll slam him right away. Out of 6 times I got 1 chance to hit him so far.

Well... anticlimax.. I'm using my trick to get the first 4 forms fast (succeeds 1/2).. (PS I use the burning man to fight teh 2nd one since he gets about 0 damage and deals damage with the Edge. after that died about 20 times due to chain lightning, walking bomb and crushing prison before doing anything. One time in between I got a few hits in (slam, quake, throw with golem and then I was fleeing in stealth with mouse and when I got stamina back and tried more.. instant death.

Last time.. well I got there, was able to to a slam, he wasn't impressed then quake interrupts his chain lightning, I throw a boulder he's turned with his back to me (the abomination form does that too when you quake or boulder him) and my regular form starts backstabbing... and he just stands there till he dies (a full 10-20 sec)

well... I'm complaining but not enough to retry this. :D

he Uldred was relatively easy, after the first try I knew the basics of how to deal with him, took me 15 times to get it right though. First step is pray he doesn't just start with crushing prison. Then melee the abominations with him near. I also have a pet around all the time though in the end they didn't do much except give me a minimum of extra backstep time (which is irrelevant)

as has been mentioned, keeping him in hand to hand prevents him crushing you with the prison and he doesn't deal that much damage either (especialluy if once in a while (most with the bear) he focusses on the pet. Also as mentioned before the massive blows can knock you into casting range (out of melee range) and that can be a firebolt, an icebolt or the dreaded prison. Luckily he usually starts with a bolt though. The massive blows hit opponents on one side of him, the markers round thing you see with him selected are usufull here. If you stand in front or behind him and the word "massive blow/strike" appear then you wait a sec to see which arm he's moving (if you stand a bit to one side it'll usually be that side but a pet could be the target too) and then just move one step aside, past the marker that is right in front or behind him and keep hitting. (I find this much easier, and more important you can keep/ conitnue dealing damage faster than the methods mentioned in the start of the thread.) of course excecuting this perfectly is a bit harder than it sounds (sometimes the words don't appear, I think related to him trying to convert the mages, not sure though) since I'm a bit sloppy. The time I succeeded I got hit 3 times but he fire bolted me (which is better than icebolt since that freezes you so you can't move into melee range) I just used about 4 potions. Something strange happend again, at 15 % health he just.. stopped moving eevn though I was right in front of him and hitting.. of course that meant his dead. I've had him lower than that a few times and then it didn't happen. Im sure it wouldn't have matterd since my method of dealing with him was making it pretty easy by this time (1 spider, a wolf and 2 bears bought it in this final run though).

So lil update and then some questions.

With stealth 4 lots was easy, I had some cash and already had Rogek's lyrium but that mage didn''t want to pay full price yet.. took me a few levels to get that (needed only one more but first level up I had forgotten and took something else instead of coercion 4).

I did some stuff in Denerim and did Redcliff... even on nightmare it was MUCH easier now that last times with a full party I was higher level now so maybe the redclif defenders where better too since other runs I can't remember them using abilities. Or is that the new patch?

Anyway whole redclif was easy even the dreaded revenant. Same for all 3 alleys in Denerim, the last 2 cost me about 40 reloads with my parties last time.. now I did them in one go. GOOO STEALTH!! actually I didn't even stealth that much, just stealthed ran into acorner and started butchering there after summoning my (now upgraded) Great bear.

Only thing that was hard (and annoyingly so) where the 6 suits of armor near the stairs in Redcliff. Last runs that was a fight I'd just rush through. Considering I've been running throught the rest of redcliff with easy I wasn't expecting needing all my skills, pickign them off one by one etc etc etc .

Anyway when I got coercion 4 and then sold the lyrium, and bribed and went back for the other order I had enough cash to buy the rose thorn AND the spell ward... so that is nice.

Now for the questions (see them in the line of [preparing for the boos fights, dragons, revenants etc)

- Can you prevent grabs with 100% physical protection or does that not help

- Can you use conc soldiers bane on dragons to drain stamina and prevent grabs and fire breaths etc or do they have too much stamina to do this effectively or are the abilities to low on stamina cost (ie is it worth going for this)

Physical resistance does not prevent grabs from what I can tell. As for 100+ Physical resistance being of help when grabbed I would not know, would assume damage reduction but that is a wild guess without any evidence. Rock Salve does help however. Physical resistance is kind of mystery to me as I could hardly name (all) abilities/spells checking for it.

Soldiers bane on dragons .. No clue. Tried it on regular mobs and few bosses and either was not paying much attention or it was not working as I expected. Same with Mage bane. No extensive testing done though. You can give it a try, but to rely on it ... It is possible to Paralyze and Stun? (runes and poisons?) the High Dragon for example, which even if buying a little time it can make a difference.

And if everything fails there is always a bow even if not done "right".

Then perhaps you are not looking carefully ;) but seriously .. it is not mandatory to pick and use 2nd specialization. You can pick one for bonuses and let it idle, or invest in it late in game. My first spec was Duelist then Bard, but I suspect you are playing different kind of game I played.

This is the spot

http://img696.images...onslayerbow.jpg

actually 2 spots I used to alternate, to shoot the dragon from with a bow without pots or anything else. lvl 16 I do like 20-30 damage + some nature with Arrow of Filth I found "spare" in inventory so yes it takes some time. You might want to try to melee it, I did not on a rogue*, or level a bit for HP and such and try then.

*edit: 367 HP 2H with 43 armor survived her grabs, this lvl 16 rogue is in Ancient elven and 220 HP

lol 367 hp and 43 armor.. I've got a feeling my rogue can't even get there anymore :D

I'll see how far I get once I've done the rest of the game :D. I wanted to save the revenants till later too but I tried one in the forest and.. killed it right away, did the 2nd one on my way to the ruins in one try too... wiill do the other one on the way back.

I've been doing the forest and just ran right into the dragon without any planning except trying to get him to target the bear first. Not a succes since the bear died when I only had 50% of health gone... a shred and a hit got me low.. the overwhelm only took a second to kill me.

But I've got a dozen poisons and 20+ regular healt potions and if needed a rock salve.. even some weak spring traps if they do anything :D

He'll go down tomorrow one way or another :D I don't expect much difficulty after that in the forest.

I had read that you could get felons coat after redclif but... appears that is not the case. I've got 90 gold around. (Ow PS I've not used leliane too loot area's except the boxes outside in Lotharing it self.) I think a dwarf noble selling to Gorim doesn't need it, most good loot (armors mostly) are on enemies anyway andI only need andurils blessing, felon's coat and some runes. I'll get the cashan taig stompers for boots I think.. that knife there will be nice against mages too I hope. Might use that with spell resist runes as 2nd weapon for mages.

Still not sure which spec to take. I'm lvl 16 I think and have all skills I really wanted (3th in dual wielding upper like, 2nd in 2nd line, 3th in 3th line (momentum) 4 stealth.)

If I go dualist I'll probably do taht one till 3th skill. as assassin I'm not sure 1st 2 I guess but I might go lethality/evasion first with either one (have one point in that line already, lethatlity with 2x cunning isn't all that but a small bonus, evasion is nice I guess )

Well I'm really lvl 16 now and finished the forest. The Dragon I tried one time last post went down in 2 tries now, with it's attention on the bear I could get it too 25% and then I just kept on hitting and wasn't grabbed :D. The rest was a walk in the park except for the shadowwolves. I could survive one grab so I had to somehow get only 1 of them at the same time. Through trial, error and luck I managed that. After that Zathrian was no problem.

I have Andruils belt and Felons coat now.. so basicly all my equip except for some runes (have 1 novice (!!) and a journeyman damage rune in the thorn and 2 master dweomer in the Edge.

I've done nearly all sidequests in Denerim and throughout Ferelden now.

I felt like trying Flemeth. BIG ANNOYANCE THERE: I CAN"T STEALTH !!! well obviously that is annoying for a stealth based strat. I tried here 2 times without using fancy stuff and I think it will not be very hard with a lil luck I started with the bear and got het down 25% while she was busy. Then I kept standing 90 degrees on a side hit a few times, she can't do much except buffet and roar, no regular hits and no massive strikes etc. if she turns 90 degrees I move 90 degrees. hit a few times etc etc.

Of course I didn't kill her since if she buffets you are down and can't prevent her doing... stuff. After a few rounds of this, met getting her to 50% and using 2 regular healtpotions due to some damage after buffets.... a grab which = death of course.

I'll try again tomorrow. maybe I should wait till I have some cash again and can get 3 or 5 (don't need the dweomer runes here right) grandmaster damage runes.. will about double my damage output so that should make it easier.

Or I could use poisons, I've been stacking a lot of those, I probably could use 6 different ones :D

Ow and I became assassin just for the fun of it.

Hmmm the trick I thought there was with Flemeth ... didn't exist. I tried some times but didn't succeed, could hit me with massive attacks a lot (which she didn't do the first time) and grabbed me.

Ow the Spider's web if not resisted breaks Flemeths grabs.

So I've just done Haven. I was fearing Kolgrim but after stealthing and killing the mages it was easy.. after the 2 guard where dead I went just auto attack on him and he only hit me 3 times.

I tried the High Dragon in Melee but even with moving and having a decoy he grabbed me very fast. even ith rock salve and 6 poisons... no chance. I've found another place to use the bow while the bear/wolf/spider attack him (spider poison works nicely too btw) just using a lesser warmth balm (no fire resist items) and 4 health potions. My spot is on the other side of the walls, also near a rock pinacle, the one one closest to the door with the Gauntlet and then on the side of the Gauntlet.

Edit: Just taught I'd try Gaxkang (my most dreaded enemy) and got him in 3 times. Summoned a bear (which didn't do much) and then just kept hacking with some sweeps etc. THe revenant form can't hit me which helps and I've got dwarf + spell ward + 2x master dweomer rune so about 55 magic resist. Most spells wheren't much of a problem with a few potions. He killed me with the curse of mortality the 2nd time but the time I succeeded he tried that only once and failed.

So only Flemeth, spider queen, broodmother and Branka left for big fights.

Daddytat, despites T0rin3, numerous excellent remarks.. this is not true, if the pet kills you don't see the xp number in screen HOWEVER.. it is added on you exp bar. So no need to micro this. And.. except for some small opponents you let the pets solo (which they hardly can) you deal so much more damage that the chance they kill anything is very small.

I've killed Flemeth too, in melee even cost me some potions I kept on the back (just a lil back from the side) where you can easily be massive attacked etc but with a rock salve I just accepted the damage. If possibel I put a pet in front of Flemeth and just kept dealing damage. I've foudn that when she turns and I move a bit away from her (instead of just directly circling her) she can't grab you (it will get you loads of fire spits though). about 6 health potions, a few pets and it was done. The spider''s poison loads fast and actually does some damamge (the bear misses often) and the web can stun her (didn't succeed with high dragon)

I've found another unexpected hard opponent, the boss (red) ogre alpha in caridins cross. It can grab and it's smaller than a dragon so not easy to avoid (it turns fast) the grabs and it still has enough hit points to avoid you killing it fast enough before it can grab. And it kills me in one grab (the werewolves, wolves and spiders I can survive an overwhelm from).

AND ofcourse.. it can ram, never missing dealing reasonable high damage.

I have successfully completed the game playing solo as a rogue on nightmare level. I specialized in Ranger and Duelist. I maxed out the Ranger specialty and put 3 points into Duelist (unlike Sir Elliot). It is tough the first part of the game. I ended up having to sell all NPC equipment (before the joining) in order to purchase enough bombs to survive the boss battle with the Ogre in the Tower of Ishal. If you can survive the beginning of the game, it does become easier to play. I have written up my entire strategy in detail so you can see how I did it - http://www.brighthub...cles/70412.aspx
