He shows up at the end. I almost forgot about him, to be honest. xD

I was convinced that there were going to be specific side-quests that tied into your origin and, as such, assumed that - because the game had made it so clear that Fergus hadn't been in the battle of Ostagar - I was going to stumble across him as a ghoul.

I'm pretty disappointed that didn't happen, honestly... and found his showing up at the end to detract from the origin story, somewhat.

Basically when it's time to leave the Wilds with Morrigan in tow, you get a dialogue choice to say that you need to go look for your brother, but Morrigan and the others basically say that he's either dead or already fled North. So you just continue on and he pops in at the endgame. :/

Yeah, I never understood this part. Fergus seems to be out in a hut for 2 weeks, then he hears you're riding at the head of the army towards Denerim.

Two weeks? So the the time span between leaving Ostagar and fighting the actual Archdemon is give or take two weeks?

I've heard a dwarven girl say the actual travel between the Circle tower and the dwarven city took more than 2 months... and you certainly travel a load further then that.

Can someone enlighten me on this subject please?

It's around two weeks between Circle Tower and Orzamar, yeah.

I got the impression that Fergus was lost in the Wilds for months. It shows you why you really *did* need Morrigan, at any rate.

Or maybe he was in a coma.

Well, he himself says it took him 2 weeks to recover after he was found. And I'm sure he was attacked very close after the fall of Ostagar. And being gravely wounded I don't think he would've survived longer then a week alone. That gives you a maximum of 3 weeks.

And, like you stated above (my bad saying 2 months) it takes the player a minimum of 2 weeks and 4 days to JUST travel between the circle tower and the dwarven city. Let alone the rest of the travels you make. (Denerim - Haven anyone?)

He says he was injured in battle and healed only in time to get to Denerim to meet you when he did. Something like that anyway.

Once I saw him I did an "oh yeah!" and wondered why that part of the origin was ignored. It seems like a good opportunity for side questing to me.

Either way, I think they should've introduced Fergus a little earlier.. or in some other way.. I have the idea that when the game was almost ready for shipment the developers thought ''Oh crap, we forgot about that Fergus guy? Let's add him somewhere asap''

I agree, him re-appearing when he did really smacked of soap-opera-level writing. "I was injured and couldn't get to you, but I show up just in the time to wrap up the story and not leave this plot-point hanging..."

I dunno, just came off as too contrived when the rest of the story telling was quite good.

I think the Human Noble origin gets so little "side-quest" content because we actually have some huge opportunities when it comes to the Landsmeet. Other origins do not gain such opportunities, and so get some side quest material instead.

i vaguely recall some NPC's actually telling of more time having passed between ostagar and the end game. I think one of them was talking about several months. I can't pinpoint it exactly. i might even have misread and it especially doesn't fit with what Fergus says, but still its what i recall.

I'm thinking there was supposed to be some noble-specific quest to find him during the game that the developers didn't have time to...well...develop.

Hm. Somewhat related, if you're playing the Mage origin, once recruited Wynne mentions that "more than a year" has passed since you left the tower (end of Origin). I've done the "Broken Circle" quest first, so it felt kind of jarring (tower -> ostagar -> lothringen -> tower = more than one year passed).

Though I fear that measurement of time was left out on purpose.

Huh, I found him on a reload I had in the final room... What a poor way to end it.

Hm. It's worth noting that, when you get the Lothering, refugees seem to have been streaming in and out for quite some time now. Loghain and his entire army had passed by and picked up troops and such too.

I agree with PDXGamergirl the writing was contrived and the reason is most likely because of what Eolath said. They were just tying up loose ends.

I think it would have been better if in the epilogue the PC went and looked for Fergus and found him like living with/being nursed by the Chasind or the Dalish or something like that. Rather then oh, yeah he showed up alive and well. Ta-Da!

Yeah, that thing with Fergus bugged the Hell out of me. I was convinced that the game had simply forgotten about him until he showed up out f nowhere for the ending.

Y'know it probably wouldn't have been so bad if they had given you hints that he was still alive throughout the game.

Well it could be worse, he could've said he lost his memory.

One of the rumors the merchant/barkeep would tell is that a man meets his own brother, tainted in the mind by darkspawn, on the battlefield against him with no recognition of his family.

I personally completely expected a side-quest of some sort involving that, and for that purpose specifically kept the Family Sword on me at all times.

I can't remember, did Fergus know what had happened? I only remember that he seemed rather happy even after losing his son and wife.

It turns out in an entirely coincidental act of murder, Fergus killed his own wife and son before leaving.

Remember how he said his son would see a sword up close "real soon?" Muahaha.

Resenting being sent from Highever, Fergus and his men dressed up in Arl Howe's uniforms to carry out a false flag operation to start a false war against Teyrn Loghaine, the whole civil war is a farce. More will be revealed in the upcoming "Loose Sovereigns"
