I tried naming my character Dick, which I'm pretty sure is a legit name since I know lots of people by the name. But when I try to upload him it says that the name is considered a profanity. Is this a bug or?
I've had a character named Dick since the first Neverwinter Nights in pretty much all the RPs I've played. Feels kind of stupid to have to change it now.

Sometimes you win, sometimes human stupidity wins.

That error message happened to me too, except the name I was trying to use was Arcturas....

Maybe they don't want to allow StarCraft references in their games?

I doubt it's a bug, since "dick" is also slang for a certain part of male anatomy... Unfortunately, you'll probably have to change it. It is short for "Richard," so maybe you can try that instead? Or something close to Dick, but just a tad different?

I hope you don't talk to your mother with that dirty mouth of yours. :?

Surely that's not the problem, given that you spelled his name wrong. :P

But you can say dick here and penis. The community is age gated, yes? So why would it be a problem?

Edit: Is anyone else here trying to figure out the dirty word in 'Arcturas?'

Maybe it's "ur as?" Ur ass? Bad attempt at making absolutely sure that there's nothing that resembles profanity? Beats me.

EDIT: Also apparently "ass" isn't censored here as it is on the Bio forums.

Hmmm...if you google Arcturas the closest thing that even remotely resembles profanity is some dude's incoherent Warcraft blog...

My ass is quite remarkable as far as masculine asses go.

Nope. I can assure you it doesn't. If you want to name you character something naughty and need a Hungarian translation to bypass it, all you need to do is PM and I'll help.:P

I just used the name I usually use for RPGs, which is Kristoff (my name is Kristopher, I know how nerdy using that name is...). It gave me the same error, apparently "Kristoff" is offensive now.

And as a follow up apparently Kristoph isn't allowed either. Also every time this happens I have to reset the CC, it won't let me click the "OK" option to continue, as if I'm being punished for using such foul language.

And now it's accepted "Bob" which I can promise is not going to be my Character name. This is a really weird system, I hope that it's corrected. Perhaps they simply won't allow us to name our character anything similar to any character in game, but that doesn't sound right.

Okay, this is messed up. It doesn't censor words like penis and ass but it censors the name of a certain fantasy author, Amelia A****er-Rhodes?! What the hell is going on here?

Edit: Referring more to the forum censor than the censor when uploading character names since I have no experience with the latter.

Eh, there is always weird language filter issues when things that involve text input of some kind launches these days. Give it a few days, BioWare will probably sort 'em out. Or not. That'd be fun too.

Thank you for just giving me a signature idea with that line! Image IPB

It sounds like it's a bug, have any of you reported this in the thread for such? It's stickied at the top of the page.

Well i am pretty sure you can call your character Dick in game, they just don't want it used on the community site. Pretty dumb i know but really there is no way to differentiate the use of dick as a name and dick in other contexts. It is weird though since there doesn't seem to be a profanity filter used here.
