I bet it's hungarian for ****lover!

Edit: Hey, penis works, but not **** :o <--- Another word for prostitute

Nope. I can assure you it doesn't. If you want to name you character something naughty and need a Hungarian translation to bypass it, all you need to do is PM and I'll help.:P

I was about to answer and offer my services to Kategorize when i saw that it'd been done already :)
Some Mistresses just have way too much time on their hands... :P

I ALWAYS name my paladin type character Saeran. The language filter is saying it's a profanity. What?? I'm not seeing it, no matter how I parse the name.

ROFLMAO

most of my characters aren't uploaded yet - but this makes me want to upload unfinished versions of them just to check them for obscurely hidden profanities XD

I know I've played Saerkhiya like a monster in the past, but I never thought it would come back to haunt me through a wonky word filter on the character generator.

Ha ha dick is actually yes a name but you could combine with so many things that are vulgar. Are we going to expect Bioware to anticipate every possible combination? No, the combinations are practically innumerable.

For other names, my only guess is that it may be considered profanity in other languages, if only a part.

I really don't get this profanity restriction. I had to change my Gamertag on live from Wrathboner to Wrathbowner, presumably cos of the word boner. If I'm old enough to buy the game and old enough to use silly profanities then why should a game prevent me from naming my character something immature. It's my bloody choice. Besides, it's not like the game is multiplayer, I'm not going to be engaging in game with some 12 year old squealing kid. Bloody stupid idea restricting names.

patch please....

Bah. Just been having problems updating my character's online profile page, getting the "Filename considered profanity" issue. My mage is called Ordanus. Yes, that name has anus in it, though that's totally not why I chose it. Ordain (n.) - to order by virtue of superior authority. Nice latin-esque sounding name with a priestly flavour.

Am I really going to have my online profile restricted because my character name happens to contain a word that a filter considers profane? Even if I had childishly called my character Anus, I don't see how that triggers a filter on an online profile for an 18 certificate game. It's the most non-shocking word for the excretory opening at the end of the alimentary canal that exists. It's what doctors call it. And besides, it exists as some letters within a bunch of other letters.

So plenty of real names would get filtered too then. Letitia would be out. Titan would be out. God forbid trying Titanus (yes, that's a real name, and yes it is chucklesome after a pint or three). But really, the filter is set way too sensitively, especially if it's filtering out not only medical anatomical terms common in daytime chat shows but also versions of them in multiple languages.

What are my options here please? Any point waiting for a fix? Or must I either abandon my progress thus far and reroll another character (and hope part of my name isn't Dutch for navel) or accept I won't have an online profile? Pffff. I'm not a particularly sweary person, but I'm getting close.

EDIT: My character was rolled within DAO itself and I'm some way in, so I'm more reluctant to simply reroll.

one of my best friends has to go by dckchang on several forums/networks because of "profanity" filters

i dont believe dick warrants a censor in this day and age when you can say 'you chickened out like a little b****' on prime time tv :P

Ridiculous... a real name should NOT be censored!!! This should be fixed, even at the terrible risk some poor child might encounter a character who's name might be snickered at! The horror... geez, our world these days is sad.

I'd personally disagree with the censorship of what are effectively the mildest forms of profanity even if the filters worked properly. The game is 18 certificate after all. And if the word bottom offends people using an 18 certificate product I'd point out what that certification covers.

The fact is, the filter is way more ridiculous than even just that unneccessary protection of people using an 18 certificate product from the actual mild words themselves. They're also 'protected' from letter stems associated with those mildest forms, and in multiple languages, meaning that there's not a bad chance at all that any perfectly tasteful name one chooses could result in the game's online profile feature not working. A game feature should not work or not work for people just because they are unlucky with a name choice.

And it's not just a problem where you can say "never mind, I'll roll another character", because the problem isn't just with the character creator, it's with the online profile feature of the full DAO game. I have a significant time investment in my DAO character that precludes the option of simply rerolling and restarting the game so that a feature linked to it functions.

I guess this is another reason to avoid all this "social network" rubbish and just enjoy the game as in the past. A shame, it could have been a good idea. :(

Yeah, uh, I can't use Kristopher either. Absolutely ridiculous. A friend offered up the possible explanation that it might be the "krist" part of it. I'm going to try Christopher now, and I swear if that doesn't work...

As??? what is wrong with as? how retarded can one be to add "as" to a profanity filter. 1 million things use "as". Saint Nicholas would be considered inappropiate... Not to talk about things like grass...

lame. you have to be an adult to buy, but get treated like a child if you play.
