I think it definitely has potential, but I hear it's been having problems. However, they have delayed it, so hopefully Obsidian won't KotRII this game.

Well I've been following the forums for a few weeks now, and many people are really hyped up about it...sure that it'll get best RPG 2009 award and so forth.

Although I don't think it'll get that far with the lacks this game will have.

The problem with DAO is that it is set specifically for the group of people who enjoy the way its made...

Some things about it:

There has been put alot more weight on the strategic aspect of the game, then the real time fighting aspect.

There is less then 10% exploring in the game(as far as I've heard), meaning you can't really explore the world as thoroughly as in Oblivion for example.

Way too few origins to choose from, in my own opinion.

The games time progresses with how many quests you have completed...meaning that if you just stand around doing nothing, the game's time wont progress(Sun won't rise, sun wont set, time will be stuck), which kinda ruins alittle of the 'RPG' aspect, in my own opinion.

About the combat style. This topic has been discussed and/or argued to hells basement and back, but it needs to. The problem with the Pause and Play feature, is that it's known to and familiar to people who have played select past Bioware games. While those(including me) who have never really seen a game where the whole combat is generally a cinematic to watch, might consider that as lame. I am personally gonna give it a shot, but I'm not quiet about my own expectations, and personally I don't expect much from the pause and play thing...I think it's something you get used to after playing Biowares games.

About the Origins. They have created way too few. I wish that they would've made an optional twist to the mage for example...you have 1 choice regarding the mage origin, and no more...come on people <.< There's a whole array of possibilities...It's a game revolving around magic and it's technically the most simple character to understand lore wise(Not strategy in combat wise). If they had given the 3 classes some more choices as to how to start your game, it would leave you with more options to try out after a few playthroughs.

The time progression issue...is huge in my own personal opinion. One thing I always enjoyed in an RPG was to after an ingame day of traveling to a town, to crawl up on a hill and watch the sun set, or as a vampire scurry into a cave before the sunrise roasted my butt. I am talking mainly about Oblivion here, and I'm sorry if people complain about too much comparison but it's the game closest to what DAO is really. I would've liked if they could've atleast let time go buy, just to make it seem more...real. Some people have argued that it's stupid that 1 day in other select games last from 10 minutes to 1 hour(24 hours in Oblivion = 1 hour in real life), but that atleast gives me a sense of being a seasoned fighter in whatever world the game takes place in...so that you don't start off at day 1 and at day 3 you are the savior of the world...unless the story writer was on minimum salary that's a poor job...

However the storyline in DAO FAARRR outshines that of oblivions. Oblivion is by no means flawless, and gets quite boring after awhile(can't play for more then a few hours at a time), while as far as I've heard, DAO gives you alot more to do other then explore, which really is the secondary and last resort if you're bored with the oblivion main quest.

Graphics are also fantastic, though sadly alot of the game IS cinematics, while in Oblivion there was only 2 cinematics(1 in beginning, 1 in the ending of the main quest). It would be awesome if they could take the excess of cinematics in DAO, and the lack of them in Oblivion, and make a thing in between.

In the end it really comes down to what you preffer in an RPG, cause all RPGs are by no means alike, at all in some cases.

I am gonna give it a shot out of curiosity(most of my favorite games including oblivion were experiments), and I might either like it or dislike it, we'll just have to see.

umm... The Alpha Protocol game looked very interesting to me. I was going to pick it up when it was scheduled to be released prior to DA:O. Now It's pushed back until June '10 I think. I'll have to read more about it as the release gets closer to see how they changed it. I'll hopefully have gone through many many play throughs of DA:O by then.

I had hoped they would add different starting characters for AP. Not much roleplaying involved when you get to pick from the one starting character. Maybe they are adding other options. Female spy?

I think Alpha Protocol looks great, especially since I'm a big fan of Jack Bauer, Jason Bourne, and James Bond. I'll buy it for sure.

(And then go back to playing and re-playing Dragon Age!)

I have to say, I HATED Oblivion.

I hated that everything leveled with me. I hated that the storyline was a total after thought. Half the time, I didn't even know what the storyline at that point was supposed to be or why I'd want to pursue it.

I didn't feel there was any real consequences to my actions on a bigtime scale. Perhaps that's realistic, but I prefer the whole race fails because I **** slapped the wrong person or survives cuz I stabbed his sister.

The people didn't interest me either.

I appreciated the graphics at the time. I appreciated that there was a lot of historical background.

But the game itself, I never beat or felt compelled to pursue any main or side quests.

It lacked soul.

This game looked like it could be really good, but I'm always leery of Obsidian games because they tend to have really good ideas that are hampered by unfinished or hinky releases. I am curious about the last-minute delay and the strange official statement - it sounds like the game is finished, but they're delaying it for marketing reasons.

I was looking forward Alpha Protocol. Wanted it back in winter of this year. Then it was delayed until October, so I looked forward to playing it before Dragon Age. Now it's delayed until 2010. That worries me. It makes me wonder if the game is an unpolished mess. Obsidian's releases almost always are. Or is the gameplay so severely flawed that they had to overhaul it?

I like that it's a modern action-RPG, and being able to go gun crazy or stealthy, not too mention playing through without needing to kill anyone is neat. But I think I will wait for reviews on this. The circumstances surrounding it and Obsidian's track record don't raise my hopes.

Remember, this is after a *previous* eight-month delay pushed it to October. At this point I'm wondering what on earth is going on.

Apparently someone at Sega felt that "it didn't felt like an RPG" myself, I think the delay came because they didn't want to compete with all the others AAA titles.

Except... several AAA titles were delayed to 2010 too, weren't they? Alpha Protocol's competition is worse then than it is now in my opinion.

Yeah, there wasn't really anything interesting in October.(At least for me) I'm glad it's delayed though. More RPG! Supposedly. I will buy it regardless of the competition.

I'm really hoping that they actually are taking the time to fix this game into being good instead of just pulling a highly incomplete KotOR2 like experience. I guess it all depends if they're going to spend the time working on it or sitting on it.
