I recently played through the mage's tower / fade again and I tried to use any healing items as the Burning Man form to no avail. Quick heal wouldn't work and I couldn't even manually pick a healing item. Needless to say I died. I tried again and still was unable to heal. I had to switch back to my normal form to heal.

Did you try changing forms and going back to the burning man? It might work.

I did, it didn't work. I just could not heal at all as the burning man.

I did. Maybe his hands set the poultices on fire if he tries to use them.
