Since the Deception novel takes place six ears after ME1, which is 3-4 years after ME3, do you think the there will be spoilers? I've pre-ordered the book a while ago, but I really don't want to spoil the story of ME3 :(

You shouldn't read it because it's terrible. Also it does not take place after ME3.

And it only take place 3 years after ME1. Dietz has fudged the ages of the characters.

But Gillian is 18 years old in it? She was only 12 in the Ascension novel. Or maybe 13, I don't remember.

The novels usually don't. Although when people found out that ME Retribution took place after ME2, people were butthurt that TIM couldn't be killed in ME2.

Anyways since Deception takes place before ME3, it can't really be a spoiler right?

Could you perhaps show me where it says that? That would clear up a lot of confusion for me.

It's before ME3. It will give you some extra information why things are the way they are in ME3, more than spoiling anything. Cerberus has reaper technology even when you destroy the base and Udina is on the council even if you chose Anderson. Stuff like that.

It hasn't been confirmed by the author or Bioware... it's just known that Deception takes place before ME3.  The age thing is just a retcon or a snafu.  End your confusion buddy!

Udina was in the council in Retribution too. I guess Anderson decides to step down after ME2.

What is it that you would like to see? The events clearly take place before ME3. Anderson is still investigating the Reaper's involvement in Grayson's death at the beginning of the novel. It seems to take place rather shortly after ME: Retribution. This info is in the exceprt that has been released. At the latest, the book takes place in 2186. ME1 took place in 2183. Dietz has altered the ages of the two children for some reason.

Are you sure about that? I'm sure Bioware would have noticed the age of the children, if it were a mistake. I need some clarification on this.

I'm not sure what kind of confirmation or clarification you need. You can read the first 50 pages of the book right now. Many of us have.

Bioware did not write this book. It was written on a contract basis by William C. Dietz. He is a hack. He doesn't know anything about the source material. You are not going to get any more of an explanation then that.

You don't need to worry about the age thing so much, I know it is annoying and clearly an oversight, but the book is 100% before anything in ME3.  It is a fact, take it to the bank.  Pass Go and collect your $200.

Bioware owns the Mass Effect name. They don't just hire some dude to write a novel and release it, without checking out the content first.

I have no idea what you want me to do with that link. There's no way I'm going to read the first 50 pages of a book I'll receive in a week or two.

Well if you want your 100% clarification, it might be a good idea to read it instead of relying on people's opinions?

Yes, please read through some of the nonsense we discovered last night. That is clearly what happened. There are numerous inaccuracies and blunders in just the first few pages. There was obviously very little quality control over this book. Dietz doesn't seem to understand even the basics of the Mass Effect universe.

While I totally sympathize witht your hopes that this is not true, the first 50 pages are right there for you to read. There is really no arguing against it.

Okay, well then we'll talk again in a week or two? When you have realized that no one is lying to you.

Then read the responses of the ones who have read the excerpt, to prove mine and others points that Deitz has no bloody clue as to what the hell universe he's writing about.... <_<

It sucks, man. That thread full of vitriol that we started last night is chock full of real fans. People who read all the previous novels and enjoyed them. No one is crapping on this thing out of hate for the source material. It's just frustration.

Gillian has gone from being an Autistic 12 year old to being a healthy 18 year old in those three years, 2183-2186.
