Hi,

I have the PC version of Mass Effect (Disc, not Steam), and I get always a blue screen on at least 2 spots in the game:
First on eden prime, when you go up after the dig site there is a building. When I try to hack the lock a certain sound is played and then comes the blue screen.

Second on Therum when you first encounter the geth in the mako, as soon as they shoot ->blue screen. At the blue screen the file ha20x22k.sys is mentioned. According to google it's part of a creative driver.

I have a creative titanium x-fi soundcard. The newest drivers are installed, everything else works fine.

Some users had a similar  (maybe the same) problem at this thread (http://social.biowar...index/1276820/1), but I suppose it got never solved.

Can somebody please help me ? I just discovered this awesome game and want to continue playing.

My specs:

Intel® Core™ i5 CPU  750  @ 2.67GHz

RAM : 3,99 GB

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260   896 MB  Driver Version: 8.17.12.8562

Creative SB X-Fi Titanium Driver Version 2.17.0008

Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium x64 + service pack 1

DirectX 10

Thanks in advance,

Christoph

First thing i would suggest is a reinstall, as crashes at the same spot are normally indicative of a corrupt file.
Also, go through the ME1 tweak thread, and adjust your audio settings as per the instructions given in there. ME1 doesnt always handle the newer audio devices that well.

Hi, thank you for your answer.

I've reinstalled mass effect and tweaked it as it was sugested in the thread you've mentioned, but without solving the problem.
Do you have any other suggestions ?

Access the configuration program from the game's launcher. Once that's loaded, click the Audio option from the left side. Ensure that the dropdown box on that page is set to Hardware. Save the config settings (Mass Effect menu => Save Settings), and quit, but don't start the game yet.

You said you're using a Creative X-Fi? Do you have access to the Console Launcher or at least the capability to switch the mode to Game Mode? If so, do that, then try playing the game again.

I have a Creative X-Fi (it's the one with the control module that you put into your case; I forget which one it is) and had this exact same problem until I did the steps above. Once I did, my BSoDs went away.

Hi, its me again.

I was able to play trough much of the game switching my creative titanium x-fi soundcard to game mode and it was awesome.
But on Ilos, after the trench there are a couple of geth. Whenever the mako is hit by them the same old blue screnn pops up.
Fu** !

Any suggestions ? Please ?

disable the card, play the trench, save and re-enable afterward.
