Im doing BG 1 with a bard PC right now, and I am wondering if there is any good pickpocketing to be had. I dont mean the cheat way (pickpocketing then killing for double items) but just a new thing to do. I have never had much use of the pickpocket skill (except on Algernon) but now that it comes for free with my PC I thought I would look into it.

So far I have only found nice things on Drizzt... Who should I else pickpocket for good items?

In addition at Ulgoth's Beard, there is a nice warhammer to be had from the dwarf who wants you to get the soultaker dagger. If you wait until you get it as a reward, it is no longer of great use.

If you pickpocket the mage who sends you to ice island, there are a lot of good scrolls.

I can't remember if it's mentioned in the above thread, but it is possible to pickpocket the boots of stealth, not that it's really worth doing when you can just kill the hobgoblin wearing them.

The thread doesn't seem to list TotSC characters, so there could be a few others from that expansion not mentioned.

I've never tried it, but is it possible to pickpocket the helm of opposite alignment from the demonknight at the top of Durlag's Keep? It is quite useful for druids being the only helmet they can wear, or so I believe.

What I have often wondered is If you pickpocket items such as weapons, scrolls, etc. are they easier to kill because they haven't got them, or does the software assume that those items are still available to them?

Acquiring Drizzt's scimitar should make a battle with him much easier for example.

It's possible to pickpocket quite a few of the characters you meet in your travels. Normally, doing this when they're trying to leave is safe as the script saying depart over-rides the script saying hostile. By surrounding them with your party you can stop them moving (they will still disappear, but you should have multiple chances to pickpocket them in the meantime). I regularly do this for instance with the merchant with furry boots (who won't give them to you unless you have good reputation and charisma).

Now I'm going to have to go round all the merchants to find out who has furry boots.

Didn't realise that he was a merchant. He's always been very generous to me, so didn't realise that he wasn't always generous.
