Hello and Welcome to the femshep in Mass Effect 3 thread, Detailed OP incoming!

This thread is for posting about Femsheps only. You may talk about Maleshep if it's accompanied by a female shepard talk (example I have a Male and Female Shepard that are siblings). Similar to this thread in the Mass Effect 2 section, for Maleshep exclusive discussions, check out our Brother Thread: MaleShep in Mass Effect 3 Thread

The purpose of this thread is to support the female incarnation of Commander Shepard in the upcoming BioWare game, Mass Effect 3. In addition to supporting the character this thread hopes to give fans an opportunity to vocalize their hopes for the development of the character in the upcoming game. As Mass Effect 3 is the first game in which BioWare is actively marketing “FemShep” outside of a few screenshots, this thread will follow the marketing campaign as it progresses as well as post other pertinent information on the character as it becomes available. Please be warned, this thread will contain spoilers for ME, ME2 and ME3. Thanks!

A special thanks to Rynluna for passing the torch and giving her blessings to this thread.

Marketing: “I’m just here to get the job done. Let someone else be on the poster.”
As Mass Effect 3 is the first game in which “femshep” is being actively marketed, with both a trailer and a spot on the Collector’s edition of ME3, we would like to keep up to date with the campaign. To that end you will find articles, posts and tweets below concerning the femshep marketing campaign. The campaign is headed by BioWare Director of Marketing, David Silverman. Note: The opinions expressed in the articles below do not necessarily reflect the opinions of the creators or contributors of this thread.
The Tweet that started the marketting Campaign

Wow. Woke up to 100s of "@dsilvermanea release #FemShep trailer" msgs. Guess you guys want to see that. - David Silverman

Not bad, is it yours?

I wish I had a decent set up so I could show up my sheps, but hooking up the ps3 is a complicated ordeal.

As a consolation prize, have Jane.:D

If she's rendered with Freckles, I might have to change Adama's face to hers. Not enough freckled killers out there.

FemShep thread?

Alllll riiiigghht.

Seems redundant with the Shepard thread already up and still running strong, though. This thread may accidentally start a gender war.

Run down of why I love the character of Female Shepard.

Bioware gets a lot of things right, and letting the player choose gender is one of their best aspects. I am not just praising Bioware games, but Bethesda games such as Elderscroll series and Fallout 3 and even Star Trek Elite Force.

The reason I like strong female leads from Samus Aran to Jill Valentine, to Lara Croft and even Lightning is the simple fact that it is simply refreshing to see a female who saves the day. Doesn’t rely on some dashing knight in shining armour to save the day. She completely decimates all gender conventions in popular fiction to provide a protagonist that we actually want to root for.

I remember watching Buffy and Xena Warrior princess and wondering to myself, why are there so few female action heroes? I guess for me that was part of the joy of seeing a strong female lead. The simple fact that there aren’t that many of them. For me they also made far more interesting characters. Moping around, waiting for the hero to return, or waiting for the hero to save them doesn’t make for an interesting character.

In addition weaker female characters are also portrayed as being the budding love interest who whines and complains at the dashing hero. She doesn’t ever stop giving the hero a bad time. She doesn’t dress appropriately for he adventure and ends up complaining that she lost her favourite pair of shoes, when there are more important things to consider. This portrayal may not be sexist, but it makes me wonder what is so special about her in the first place? If she can’t fight, if she can’t help the hero solve puzzles, get out of traps, or even aid the hero in any other way, what is the point of having her as a sidekick.

Female Shepard gets the full list of roles that the traditional male hero, excels like the traditional male hero, but also has an element of femininity without overdoing it. She is no Charley’s Angel (thank goodness for that, have you seen the remake series?), but she does kick ass and she does save the galaxy twice (possibly a third time). She represents all that is good about humanity and has a somewhat alluring pragmatic and sometimes twisted edge to her. She’s dangerous and will beat you senseless if you mess with her.

Female Shepard was designed to be everything Male Shepard is, BADASS. Just don’t let some of her daft romantic lines put you off. If an unpredictable space marine who could easily kill me with her mind uttered the words “I’m more interested in talking for a bit” I’d be frightened.

Well might as well get some good discussion going then shouldn't we?

Firstly, i'm looking forward to the femshep redesign in ME3. In my opinion, femshep's all largely look the same using the ME1-2 editor without the use of mod's or heavy (and I mean heavy) editing. I think this is mostly caused by the limited hair styles available, but I think a good chunk of it is in the editor too.

With that in mind, does any of you have any good tips for building a "unique" femshep?

Yeah the CC in ME1 and ME2 are limiting for us and the only real tip i got is: Don't use Facial structure 7 or 1 since they're the most common ones. It might take a while to really find the tricks to make those structures fit your tast but when you do it the Shepard will look absolutely amazing

Start with a skeletal structure or feature(s) you wouldn't normally use, and build the rest of the face to fit it/them.  Example:

http://desmond.image....png&res=medium

As for FemShep, I have three favorite things about her:

1. She is just as badass as BroShep, without any compromises to her character or special treatment because of her gender.  She has boobies, but she doesn't care, the bad guys don't care, her friends don't care, and the galaxy doesn't care.  Who she is and what she does comes first, and what set of genitals she happens to be equipped with is an afterthought.  That's refreshing.

2. Jennifer Hale puts a lot of passion into her lines, passion that reflects strength and determination.  While I love Meer/BroShep, Hale's take on Shepard offers an entirely different (and awesome) experience.

3. Commander Shepard is the kind of woman I wanted to grow up to be as a kid.

Thanks for the tip! This will probably be my pet project in the lead up to ME3, creating a decent femshep that doesn't look too similar to others, without using any mods.

I'm thinking of going for more military veteran rather than beauty, which speaking of I miss the scars from ME1. You know the ones NOT TIED TO MORALITY.

That sounds like a fantastic idea! I might even do that myself if i get my hands on some free time.
Yes those scars i really do miss. They were so cool and gave Shepard some character and could totally change the look of Shepard by one click on the slider
