Do I have terrible taste in FemShep's or something? No one ever comments on mine.
That frequently happens in a high-traffic thread. I guarantee it's nothing personal, stuff just goes by so fast that a lot gets missed.
Yeah; for me, too. I only ever say anything about the FemSheps I *love,* which don't remind me of others' Shepards or mine but suit my personal taste in facial features (or if one looked so much like mine that it was like, "whoa, sister!") and impress me with their realism.
The ones I like, that maybe don't quite jump up and grab me as much but that I still think are cool, I just smile at and enjoy; I don't say anything because most of the time I'm reading a whole lot at once (and/or I'm babbling on about some topic I'm enjoying discussing.)
Doesn't mean I'm not happy to see all of them. I am.

It's just hard to make a standout FemShep that also looks realistic, I think. And in fact, a more normal-looking Shepard enhances realism in a playthrough. I'd say that's why more people choose average features. If you get too creative, too risky, she can look weird. But FemShep is awesome in any form, to me. It just takes a lot to drive me to comment about a particular one.
Your Kallien looks great in ME3, Ami--there's just something about her nose and brow; she really does look fierce, and I actually love the way her ear is sticking out of her hair; it somehow adds to the effect. The third shot down is my favorite; that little sneer is pure gold... thumbs up.

Is it just me or does this look like Melinda Clarke a little? Maybe it's the eyes.
She really does look a lot like her! I *love* her on Nikita; awesome actress. A slightly wider but similar nose and the eyebrows from my portrait might (or might not) make her look even more on-target, but the proportions and the lips and all--very, very close.

I also blame Skyrim. I heard Stephen Russell's voice, and it prompted me to go on a Thief binge. NO TIME FOR SAVING THE GALAXY I NEED TO PICK THIS LOCK.
Haha! I recognized him, too!

Ever played Thief 2: Shadows of the Metal Age, the expansion project?

What a bunch of crap. Once again, playing on the PC gets me shafted when it comes to this sort of thing. Pretty much almost completely killed my excitement for the 14th/17th.
Yay. I get to play it after a whole bunch of people already have. *weak-*ss cheer*
Yeah. :/ It's weird, I'm so excited for the people who can play it, but so un-excited for me at the moment... just grumpy. I hate not being able to share in the excitement, test my stuff out, gripe with the people who are griping if my girls don't look right; rejoice with the people who are rejoicing if they do; or both if both.
Grr, I call shenanigans. <_< But at least it's only around 24 hours now!

And as long as dark eyeliner and eyeshadow is still possible (as shown by ADLegend), I'll be good. My femshep needs her waterproof makeup!!
Some of mine need it, too. I actually liked the makeup options in previous games, though I wished they were less extreme in some cases. But the difference between a gaunt, pale Shepard; a round-faced, pink-cheeked Shepard; a Shepard in makeup or out of it altogether... well, for FemShep that's pretty significant. It can tell you things about her identity with a single look. Black lipstick and smoky shadow can say something along the lines of, "I like standing out, and I'm fierce about it. I'm bold and not afraid to look a bit scary." No makeup or just lip gloss says, "I'm practical and I don't need any special facial adornments to feel like a woman." Moderate makeup says, "I want to look like a butterfly and sting like a bee." And now the new hairstyles can say, "I'm a soldier with a punk rock soul." Options like these help remind me who that Shepard is; the look is an aid to roleplaying. So, yeah... I agree that makeup is important, even for FemShep.

Not to mention, they've completely been counter productive and shot themselves in the foot. Judging by the overwhelming majority on the forums, no-one likes the new bun hairstyles. So they've actually reduced the already terrible selection of hair..
And what's worse is I continually get NPC/companions mocking me with nice looking hair. I get that Mirandas' hair was actually part of her model, but would it have been so difficult to take that one step further and create it for Shepard? I mean, really? And now Ashley/Diana too..
DA and ME have always had issues with hairstyles. If the final game was exactly like this, I'd be fairly unhappy, though of course I don't think that'll be the case. Some of the new ones look gorgeous, though.
In general, I'd rather have a good hairstyle that clips a little bit than one that looks terrible and doesn't clip. I know FemShep is a soldier, but there are ways to get around that, and I was never sure why the Miranda hair is okay for Miranda but not for FemShep. Both are placed into the same situations. Same with Ashley.
Meh. Not sure what I'll do for Eo. I'll have to see if classy still looks okay on her. If not, then I'm going to consider Lucky Thirteen's Rylie hair. It's looking super-nice. Mabe I'll pretend that she was like, "S***, my ears are hurting from all this hair they've been holding back for 3 years. Time for a change! Engaging scissors..."

A cartoon face is more uncanny then a Miranda face, in my opinion. Especially when placed next to Kaidan or Ash. Which is why I'm disappointed they still haven't given her a scanned model.
But what are you going to do.
Exactly. Done is done and all that. And it could have been worse: I see the scanned Jessica Chobot as a disservice to Jessica Chobot (who is a very pretty girl, no matter your feelings on her inclusion or merit as a VA). A scanned default femShep might have been just as bad as (or worse than) the cartoonishness (in your opinion) of the one we DID get.
Good point! It really could be worse... Jessica Chobot was a great idea in theory, but her in-game double... yeah, she just isn't working for me at the moment. A scan isn't necessarily a good thing, you're right.
And as Dirgegun was saying, it's easier for me to see my FemShep as canon when the default looks less realistic. It just would've been cooler to show to my non-gamer friends if they'd altered a few little things to make her look more convincing, like the classic custom FemSheps do.

This 'inner circle' crap is invalid since the entire femshep community
is the circle. That includes everyone who posts here once a month or once an hour. Newcomers have been and always will be welcome. This is ridiculous, we try to say something nice about other peoples Shepards and this fact is ignored for the belief that we are a small group that just sits around congratulating each other.
I am pretty new, but I feel welcome here. I noticed that some people are closer than others, but that's just what happens when people spend a lot of time together; it's nothing to take personally, it's just a reason to stick around.
Sure, there are moments of snappishness that I've noticed here and there; but hey, life is full of stresses. Nobody's perfect. It happens that people behave out of character sometimes (and usually regret it later). And when conflicts happen, it's good to try to see both sides. I think the rest of BSN already contains plenty of people hating on each other for being different. I don't want to take anything personally, because it's almost never truly personal anyway; I'd rather learn to love the differences and look past the anger to what's behind it. There's usually something positive there, if you look close enough.
My hope for this thread is that everyone will shrug off whatever troubled them in the past and keep going with what makes it great, because frankly, there are few enough male and female gamers who play Mass Effect and FemShep, or even video games in general. We may all be very different, but we're all people. A love of people is why I'm fond of roleplaying (and psychology) in the first place.
I come to this thread to celebrate diversity and tolerance, two things I've come to value very much in life. It's a pleasure. I for one just want to enjoy it and I'm going to try to accept everyone--that includes the less cheery people. It's not that we can't disagree or criticize anything, but we do want to respect each other.
I'm not meaning to lecture anyone with a bunch of bs philosophy, here... I just want to express that I'm glad this thread and FemShep exist, and I like the positive vibe here, but I also appreciate less positive attitudes; constructive criticism generally leads to good things. I just want everyone here to more or less get along, because it won't be long before we're all playing the demo, and then the game. I look forward to enjoying both with you all, starting tomorrow.
So, to all FemShep fans, I appreciate your existence and I'm proud to be in the same category with you. That's just the way it is for me.
