I thought the point was to perpetuate what the boy says to Shepard when she finds him in the vents, "You can't help me."

Have we not heard not the same thing many times over in different ways, though?

Not that I can recall. At least not in quite the same way with the same consequences.

But anyway, this is apparently a highly subjective matter and it's going to affect everyone differently.

@Sagequeen:

Kyrie transfered very well. It's good to see her and Kaidan together again.

Aged and tired in general. For some reason Shep looks really tired in ME3 and in some cases it looks like Shep has gained decades in age. How long Shep has been off duty?

Jane Shepard wrote...

I have a FemShep question... even maybe two questions.
1) What did your FemShep feel when she saw that little boy?
and
2) Whad did she feel when she left Earth?

1. Flashback. In that small moment she lived through the bad memories of loosing her parents. She's a colonist.

2. "This is not ever yet, we will fight and we will survive!"

The visual of the child and the shuttles is reinforcement of WHY Shepard is fighting the Reapers. I would think after weeks/months, sitting around twiddling your thumbs, you would lose focus as to why are they doing this? No one believes them about the Reapers, and I can Shep maybe start to question things.

Then, whoa, they come to Earth, start knocking over the sand castles, and with it, the innocence of life and being helpless to prevent the destruction boosts that resolve to kick some Reaper ass. But as the ME3 is dealing with more of Shep's humanity, using the boy helps reinforce that image.

RE: Shuttle

Why does one civilian shuttle getting shot down set off so many Shepard's? The collectors took hundreds of thousands of human colonists and KILLED Shepard, but now it seems that was only enough to get Shepard in half way? Is there something I'm missing? o.O

Perhaps it's due to her/him actually *seeing* it happen and not being able to do anything about it. Shepard seems horrified when you find the crew in the Collector Base, especially when seeing that colonist/Kelly getting liquefied, but there isn't time to process the emotion of seeing something like that, because there are other people to save, a base to blow up, etc. Whereas with the shuttle exploding, Shepard couldn't do anything about it, and has just been told s/he has to leave Earth and go get help from the Citdadel.

But don't you see, the Reason shepard was revived in the first place was because this was happening! The collectors needed to get Shepard out of the way to do it because if not shepard would have put her combat boot up their asses, If everything was coll after the BOTC Shepard would've retired a hero after the first game and there'd be no trilogy. Instead the colelctors KILLED you, then proceeded to pick colonies like fruit from a terr to make a new smoothie for the reaper fleet. What I'm trying to say is that you should already be all in for the millions of lives that have been lost because of the reapers. You should NOT be spurred to action simply because one child was killed in front of you, you should be spurred to action because of what's already happened in Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2. shepard is not emotionless, this should not be her finally discovering her emotions because of that kid, she should already have it.

Do you hate the earthquake and tsunami that wipe out thousands of people, including many of your friends and family?  No; you'll grieve about it, and you'll take steps to be ready so something like that doesn't happen again, but you can't hate the event, because it's a force of nature.  It's unthinking, unfeeling, and will occur whether someone is in its way or not.

Now if you see your friends and family executed by someone with a gun... the shooter, you can hate.  There is a deliberate act with reasoning and malice behind it.  Even if it were a robot made to look like a human that was simply carrying out a program, you now have a face behind it that appears to act with malicious intent, and you will hate that.

The Reapers up to this point were a force of nature.  They were quite literally unfeeling, they occured like some kind of stellar event or the insurance companies' ever-reliable Act of God, they were a faceless threat you couldn't really do anything about except try to prepare and survive.  You can fight them but you can't hate them.

The Reaper that blew up the shuttles was, in human perception, acting with deliberate malice to destroy innocent lives, including children.  That is easy to hate.  It's almost a reflex.  It's a simple emotional response, and emotion is more powerful than reason.

No it wasn't. It's a machine, incapable of malice. It is just part of your tsunami analogy having taken out a house you could see from your hotel balcony. Minutes after you saw a child's scared face in the window of that house. Do you hate that tsunami any more or less after you've seen the house swept under water?

It's human perception, as I mentioned.  The Reaper moves on its own, targets on its own, obviously has a mind of its own, and employs weaponry in the same manner that an organic sentient being would employ it.  It is intelligent and self-motivated, and even though there may not be malice behind its actions, we as humans anthropomorphize anything that acts even remotely like ourselves, from dogs to dolphins.  An earthquake can't think; a Reaper can.  Therefore, we ascribe human motives to the Reaper.

So yes.  It's perfectly reasonable (or unreasonable, as the case may be) to hate the Reaper, and ascribe to its actions malice aforethought, even if it is merely acting on its own programming.  It's human nature.

I said nothing about Jessica being spurred to action.  She was already acting and has been throughout the entire series of games.  I said Jessica was spurred to hatred.  Two very different things.

This picture definitely looks like a worn and tired Kyrie.  Good to see her again.  Especially alongside her main squeeze (who also looks worn and tired, and rather hot with the extra stubble).  I wonder just how rocky it will be for them to get back together.

Well its a bit late to go back and give Shepard emotions in ME1 and ME2 for those scenes now.  Bioware wanted an emotional impact in the scene thats all and move forward.   Your reading far to much into it I think and trying to justify her actions when its supposed to be simple.

My post on the last page gives an explanation as to why she suddenly gained it.  I say suddenly, but I think she always had it.  Shes a soldier and all soldiers bottle things. Additionally you can use your imagination no end to explain why she felt hard hit.  Empathy, battle weary,  emotional contrast between her and the Reapers ect

At the end the day we all have our own interpretations for what makes our Shepard.  Thats why some of us find this easy to accept and not for others.

And just got Ellen through the demo (she really loves the Nova+Charge combo) - in getting her facecode into ME3, however, I noticed something that I hadn't before.... I really no longer like her old "Sexy" hairstyle. Here's how she looked in ME2:

Image IPB

I can't quite explain why exactly, but I just really don't care for the ME3 update to the Sexy hairstyle (part of it might be due to the mirroring of the part of the hair, yet there's something else about the ME3 version that seems "off" somehow).

So rather than keep her old hairstyle... I decided to give her a haircut:

Given the 'reunion,' I imagine getting back together is sort of low on the list of priorites. I mean, normally, relationships rank highly. But destruction of earth? Eh.... *MIGHT* take precidence.... For a while...

And I LOVE that set up. ;)

Incidentally, the thing that made me the MOST giddy was biotic melee attack. I squeed SO much.

"OMG! OMG! Hon! Looky, looky! She's not just throwing an elbow at things, she did like this smackdown! *Sage stands up and demonstrates* Look, look! She's like, a biotic!"

My hubby looks on with an amused expression.

^Yeah, that was me on Valentine's, Day.  =]
